Tyler probably had a mental breakdown after what happened at Iago Tower. Ran away far from the police, didn't know where to go until inevitably going back to the one place he felt a tiny bit of warm. In the morning, he went in front of the graves...
Inspired by this tweet 🥀
(I mean, have you seen those eyes, that's the eyes of someone who cried all night 😭)
Dirty
Quite literally one of the best and simultaneously most sickening pieces of Tyler—I'm quaking in my proverbial boots.
11/10 my eyes have been blessed
isaac isn't cold, but subsceptible
he's canonically described as cold, and he does manipulate people, sacrifices friends, his expression is composed, kills without hesitation— but i think he's reckless, laser-focused, driven by love, passionate, and would say subceptible. he’s ruthless because everything hits him hard. loss, love, humiliation, hope. he doesn’t filter feelings; he just tries to contain them with intellect and control. and so, his reactions are extreme. he can’t stay neutral, so he over-regulates until it bursts out as recklessness or violence
his actions are driven by a form of love — obsessive, protective, guilt-ridden, & his ruthlessness is what happens when the emotional pressure exceeds the boundaries he’s built, causing an implosion controlled volatility — he is emotionally charged but deliberately containing the outward display of rage. in my opinion, he does look and feel very unstable, as if anything could really affect him in a dangerous way, like shaking a bomb he also seems like the kind of person who could get into fights, maybe. he’s snappy, and that scene with him confronting tyler could have easily escalated if francoise hadn’t stepped in to stop them
his entire presentation communicates an internal pressure he’s constantly managing — voice pitched just below shouting, movements too deliberate, gaze too fixed, he doesn’t look relaxed for a second — still, there are grunts, frowns, and gestural ventings even if he tries to hide it, his intensity tends to “leak” in gestures, tone, posture, micro-expressions
he's cold, arrogant, ruthless, and he's also grieving, susceptible, and desperate; cold outside, burning inside

Wednesday Characters' Hogwarts + Ilvermorny Houses (4/4)
Tyler Galpin || Gryffindor & Thunderbird (The Adventurer) — Combination: The Revolutionary
+a quick analysis of how he could be interpreted as a Hufflepuff
Hogwarts Justification:
Oh geez, Tyler “White Suburban Barista to Kicked Dog” Galpin gave me GRIEF in figuring out his Hogwarts house. So caveat For Tyler: We barely know who this kid is. He has been manipulated via the Hyde-bond for at least all of S1, and he was subsequently going through an insanely difficult time in S2. Hunter Doohan himself mentioned that we do not know much about who Tyler is without the influence/control of another person. The Ilvermorny house was easy because one of the options tied in directly to his fundamental value: freedom (which I might provide a separate analysis for someday). But for his Hogwarts house, peeling back all the layers of abuse as far as I could, I ultimately decided on Gryffindor OR Hufflepuff (but primarily a Gryffindor). So, I’ll do a brief analysis of both potentials.
Gryffindor:
One of the reasons I think I am right in this analysis is the fact that he is so hard to place in any Hogwarts house. Allow me to explain. If we boiled down the core value/trait of Gryffindor, it would be bravery in a strong moral code. Imagine both those were forcibly stripped from a Gryffindor due to external factors (i.e. Thornhill). That Gryffindor would present themselves in a very strange, lost manner—just like Tyler does in S2. Thornhill’s abuse directly targeted these core traits and left him fundamentally unsure of his identity and stripped of the ability to actively pursue a moral code. I think we see evidence that Tyler is actually someone who does have this brash willingness to stubbornly follow a strong moral code of his choice (in a strange way). We see evidence of this through what we know of his past. Growing up, Tyler was taught by Donovan that Outcasts are immoral, murderers, etc. He grew up with a strong moral code that outcasts were a problem, and consequently he did something really gutsy/rash to follow this moral code: assaulting Xavier. Of course, this moral code isn't right—but it is an example of a moral code. I also believe this moral code has slowly changed through a MASSIVE effort. It took: learning he is an outcast himself, bootcamp, AND therapy to start to alter his code regarding Outcasts. However, he definitely still holds some reservations. I'm sure he had some immense self-resentment regarding his hyde abilities (we hear a distorted "I'm sorry," from Thornhill during the flashback scene of her revealing his mother's outcast ability/his potential hydism to him which could be perceived as her approaching it like: I'm so sorry, you're an outcast). Additionally, he literally tried to crush Thing with a bat, so man is not fully accepting of Outcasts yet. Thus, strong and stubborn adherence to a moral code (that is changing, but is still slightly present in S1). By S2, he's more willing to accept who he is (via his unwillingness to give up the hyde), which indicates the beginning of adopting a new moral code and reclaiming himself—which is why I think we'll see him act more like a Gryffindor in S3. Anyways. Moving on. We also see his commitment to other heavily Gryffindor-like traits: chivalry, nerve, compassion, and determination. Chivalry/Nerve: my man is always physically catching Wednesday, making gutsy moves to flirt with her, grand gestures of appreciation, etc. This dude is extremely bold. Compassion: he is always willing to help others out (offering to drive her out of town, making her a cake, etc). Determination: the sheer determination for freedom and to pursue what he wants is intense. Once he gets an idea in his head he’s stubbornly hanging onto it: flirting with Wednesday, fleeing the town, protecting his mom, visiting Wednesday in S2, etc. He is insanely stubborn and that stubbornness is directly linked to his ultimate goal of freedom—which I believe is Gryffindor coded. Tyler's thematic arc is based on freedom. Personal autonomy, the freedom to be a little rash, to be bold, to make decisions, to love who he wants, etc. To rebel. Tyler, is at his heart, a bit of a rebel. Rebels against his dad, rebels against Thornhill (once it’s possible), is snarky, bantery, etc. etc. The combination of Gryffindor and Thunderbird is ultimately defined as the Revolutionary. Here’s a last little excerpt from the Tumblr post linked below if you don’t believe me yet: “This Gryffindor is the least boastful and glory seeking of Gryffindors, as it cares very little for the outside world. It deeply connects to those who share its beliefs however, and will stick to these long lived friendships through any situation, no matter how thick or thin.” I believe that sounds like Tyler. I rest my case.
Hufflepuff:
I lean heavily toward Gryffindor for Tyler, but I’m determined to give it a fair shot. In all honesty, I think he might seem a little Hufflepuff presenting because of his trauma. Almost like what has happened to him may have pushed him FROM his roots as Gryffindor and has instead toppled him into the territory of an unhealthily adjusted Hufflepuff. For instance, this idea of Hufflepuff loyalty. Tyler seems a little co-dependent at this point. He latches onto people because he has been abandoned and consequently forcibly tied to people who have lorded over his life (primarily Thornhill, his mother to a small degree). However, instead of valuing loyalty above all and deciding to cooperate and compromise we see him lash out, fight back, and stubbornly fight for the concept of freedom. We definitely see this through how he attacks Fran and Isaac at the end of S2—even though I’m sure Fran had multiple conversations with him about how his Hydism would damage their family dynamic/ties. Anyways, there still is a genuine argument for Hufflepuff as there are potential bleed-overs between Gryffindor and Hufflepuff traits. For instance, his immensely thoughtful gestures toward Wednesday could be interpreted as the empathetic, uniquely thoughtful characteristics of Hufflepuff—I concede that possibility easily. Still, I think the reason he might portray himself as more Hufflepuffian in the series itself is a direct result of trauma; but when push comes to shove, the more he gains control over himself, the more we will see Gryffindor-like traits manifest more strongly.
· · ─ ·✶· ─ · ·
Ilvermorny Justification:
The primary value of those in the Thunderbird house is FREEDOM. That should honestly be enough to shoe-in Tyler for this house, but I’ll give further justification. Freedom is clearly Tyler’s core value; his relationships and his character arc are based on this concept of freedom, afterall. Furthermore, this house favors the adventurer and the soul. In terms of adventurer, Tyler clearly demonstrates a desire to explore, break from this monotonous, conventional mold—this ties closely to freedom.
This is also tied to the concept of self-acceptance, which one again ties into Tyler’s arc as a hyde. The idea of self-exploration and exploration outside of the cage that he has been trapped in is fascinating. Lastly, the idea of the soul. This is a little more meta, but in context of Donovans moral guilt/shame placed upon Tyler for the concept of outcast-ism corrupting the soul, having the Thunderbird tied to the soul is really poetic. Once again, Tyler’s progression of self-acceptance is tied to this idea of seeing himself as whole, and his soul as his own (instead of bound to a master) and pure enough to see worth in himself.

Wednesday Characters' Hogwarts + Ilvermorny Houses (3/4)
Francoise || Hufflepuff & Pukwudgie (The Healer) — Combination: The Loyalist
Hogwarts Justification:
The first aspect I will talk about is how Hufflepuffs strongly value loyalty. The bulk of Francoise’s story arc revolves around the concept of creating, maintaining, and protecting family (ergo, loyalty). She cares immensely about a select, tight band of people and creating a small circle of her own. Like Weems says, one of Francoise's primary goals in life was to have a family (a normie family specifically, but a family is a family nonetheless).
She isn’t just lonely and therefore desiring familial connection, she genuinely has a strong pull toward loyalty. Her priorities always aim toward helping/saving her family. The second she gets out of Willow Hill, she beelines for her house, gets into the bunker, and turns on a police radio. I loved this detail because it highlights how focused she is on reuniting with her family. So why the police radio? Two reasons: either because she wanted to try and get word from Donovan (not knowing he was dead yet and knowing he is/was a cop), or because she suspected that the hyde at Willow Hill was Tyler (and wanted word of him)—or both! But anyways, she immediately turns to family.
Now caring about family isn't necessarily abnormal. What is abnormal is how willing Fran is to base her personal goals around the goals of those she feels loyalty to (e.g.: Isaac). Fran and Tyler were planning to skip town (per Fran's vow to Morticia) UNTIL Isaac comes back. The second he shows up, her plan immediately changes and then she’s willing to fall in line with Isaac's goal. Additionally, this deep sense of nurturing to this inner circle of loyalty is very Hufflepuff-Francoise-coded. This will interplay with the Pukwudgie side of things by interweaving this sense of loyalty with the Pukwudgie’s value of individuality (and healing).
· · ─ ·✶· ─ · ·
Ilvermorny Justification:
The primary value of Pukwudgies seems to be individuality. Though that seems contradictory to Francoise, I think it actually works rather well (especially in context of the Hufflepuff house). Their individuality does not mean solitude, it means a willingness to set aside social norms, expectations, pressures to focus on what/who they truly care about. Francoise was anxious to reject her community of outcasts in order to create a “normie life” to protect those around her from the Hyde-ness of her. Additionally, she was willing to face scrutiny and judgment to prioritize her relationship with Isaac (I'd bet at least one dollar that her co-dependent relationship with Isaac was already happening to some degree before his death).
She's the queen of “not being like other girls,” haha. She prizes individuality in the sense where she will sacrifice social norms/values to place value in things she genuinely cares about. Individuality also does not equate to uncaring. Pukwudgies are connected to healers and the heart—both which embody Francoise. In a meta way, I think it’s super sweet and fitting that one of her primary concerns is literally the heart of her brother. Francoise is constantly concerned with fixing/healing things—primarily, her family. I can't stress that goal enough. Francoise is definitely an emotions-driver person which further emphasizes this idea of the connection with the heart.

[TYLER DOING SOMETHING STUPID] fester, leaning towards wednesday: i know he's a hyde, but... are you sure you want that one? we can get you a better one. wednesday, sighing in defeat: i want that one.
He’s like a pathetic dog crying in the rain
VOLUME WARNING
how it feels to watch rinzler fall into the sea for the billionth time
audio from here
I need a fic of s2 after tyler/Hyde pushes her out of the window and is watching from afar waiting for her to get back up and continue their back and forth, but then she doesn't move.
Killing Wednesday should have been a challenge, it can't be over this easily, she can't be gone just like that.
And he scoffs like come on, I know it takes more than that to take out Wednesday... But still she doesn't move and his mind starts to race and he's rationalizing it like it was supposed to be a long torrid affair of trying to kill each other, a struggle tile the end.
To him finding out she's in a coma and stalking her room waiting for her to finally wake up. Just so he can finish the job, of course.
Wednesday Characters' Hogwarts + Ilvermorny Houses (2/4)
Isaac Night || Ravenclaw & Horned Serpent (The Scholar) — Combination: The Visionary
Hogwarts Justification:
Okay, Ravenclaw (proud to have this character representing the house). So I'm going to prove that he fits the house and disapprove some Ravenclaw/Isaac stereotypes while we're at it.
Sometimes the Ravenclaw house (especially the Ravenclaw-Horned Serpent combination) gets stereotyped as the detached, emotionally-disconnected genius type. Similarly, we frequently see this mistaken analysis attributed to Isaac. The truth is, while that personality outcome is possible with Ravenclaws, they are really driven by passion—which is obviously an emotional concept. This passion-driven value fits Isaac so well: the push for creativity, the capacity to get emotionally lost/invested in a project, innovation, originality, etc. A complete value on mental pursuits and passion projects over rules, social norms, etc. Obviously, this is Isaac coded. We see Isaac's passions in his crash-outs and his wholehearted devotion to discovery/discovering a way to help Francoise.
This is why he is not a Slytherin—as much as people try to brand him as one, usually because he is the antagonist. I'm going to debunk that on the principle of ambition/reputation. His pursuits of knowledge are SO small scale when you actually try to understand them. He is not seeking power, recognition, world-wide ambition, popularity, increased respect, making a name for himself, leadership, etc. The show tries to push this narrative that he wanted to invent for the sake of greatness, but frankly I don't see it. The only evidence we see of that being true is Ajax claiming that opinion because of a local legend despite never knowing Isaac personally.
Everything he does is for immediate and small-scale necessity. He made his heart to survive, he spent hours and hours researching and developing a machine solely to save his sister…like…guys. Come on. This isn’t some ambitious, cold genius—this is a kid with passion projects solely dedicated to things he truly cares about. This is SUCH a Ravenclaw kid. He has an intellectual passion and curiosity to develop new solutions to current issues, and that’s where he gets his energy, motivation, etc.
· · ─ ·✶· ─ · ·
Ilvermorny Justification:
Horned Serpents value service (according to the in depth analysis by EatinApplesauce posted below). I wasn’t expecting this as the primary HS value, but when it came up I was ecstatic because Isaac’s whole purpose is using his intelligence to serve.
For instance: in the animated flashback, we see that his big invention after supposedly becoming “cold and heartless” was literally coming up with a more efficient recycling method (crushing up a car into a cube). AKA: serving the community. Additionally, and even more obviously, his whole point in the show is to HELP HIS SISTER through his inventions. No one has ever matched the vibe of an Ilvermorny house so perfectly (besides Tyler...I think he matches Thunderbird near perfectly). Horned Serpents also care a lot about practicality (which we see from him being very grounded in real-world issues and solutions). They’re associated with the head/mind, which, once again, is very Isaac-coded. Lastly, they are known for challenging convention—again, Isaac coded. He spends his whole time trying to find creative solutions to problems that have been cemented into society for decades (e.g., hydism and recycling). Anyways, the Horned Serpent favors the scholar and especially those with the ultimate value/goal of service. The Tumblr post below also explains the combination of Horned Serpent and Ravenclaw as “The Visionary.” Essentially, the more abstract and theoretical side of Ravenclaw gets put into action by the pragmatic side of the Horned Serpent: basically they will plan and theorize and think and learn until they find a project (a project worth their time) and then they will become overwhelmingly invested in said project. In conclusion: Isaac Night, ladies, gentlemen, and gentlepeople.

Wednesday Characters' Hogwarts + Ilvermorny Houses (1/4)
We'll start with Wednesday Addams || Slytherin & Wampus Cat (The Warrior) — Combination: The Victor
Hogwarts Justification:
I waffled between Slytherin and Ravenclaw for her, and eventually landed on Slytherin after writing Isaac’s Ravenclaw analysis—which will come later (haha take that stereotypes, the show’s MC/anti-hero is the Slytherin and the show’s antagonist is the Ravenclaw).
Is Wednesday resourceful: certainly, and she does spend a lot of time pursuing knowledge through her detective-esque hobbies. However, I don’t think her reasons for doing all this are driven by the same reasons that would drive a Ravenclaw. As much as she SAYS she doesn’t care about what people think of her, she does (in a strange way). It’s not that she cares about conventional popularity, but she cares about whether the persona she has crafted for herself (how SHE wants to be perceived) comes across properly. We see this in S2 when she stood up and gave that whole speech about the portrait Dort commissioned instead of just tipping it over or letting it slide, etc. She also spends a LOT of time committed to building a reputation visually and verbally—and stays rabidly committed to it. She’s not willing to bend for popularity, but she’s determined to carve her mark on the world in her own unique sense—that ambition is very Slytherin-coded. She doesn’t take deterrent to her ambitious aims well (e.g. sending rat traps to the publisher who rejected her novel).
Also, the combination of the Slytherin + Wampus Cat makes a lot of sense for her. The Victor. I talk about how Wednesday thrives on competition, on outsmarting people, on winning—we see this in her interactions with the police force and other characters. She does her detective work as a competition, something to satisfy her curiosity in addition to proving herself (both to herself and others). Wednesday will do anything for the end result (accomplishment) and it’s ABOUT this end result, this victory, and not the process (a big difference between Ravenclaw and Slytherin). In other words, there is more of a focus on the ends than the means.
· · ─ ·✶· ─ · ·
Ilvermorny Justification:
Wampus Cats value ambition. Above all, Wednesday is ambitious. We see this in her fear of being ordinary/boring/unimpactful. We see this in her absolute need to be the best, be in control, seek knowledge/power. She even gets called out for this arrogance that comes from her ambition by Weems and Lady Gaga Rosaline Rotwood.
Also, the Wampus house is known as favoring people who are warriors. Wednesday clearly has this perspective/mind of a warrior throughout the show. She sees everything as a competition/game (as I have repeated time and time again). She's also generally combative and directly willing to fight tooth and nail for what she wants.
The one counter I expect people to have: people could argue for the Horned Serpent because the HS’s symbolic bodily focus is the mind whereas the WC’s is the body. However, I would argue that this connection to physical self is more thematically important to Wednesday than one might initially expect. A lot of her sense of self is demonstrated through outward action and presence—her appearance being an easy example of this. Additionally, Wednesday constantly values her personal prowess: fencing, fighting, sneaking around, etc. In fact, most of her struggles arise from when she disrespects her body (for example, abusing her mental capacities to the point of physical duress—blacking out, black tears, etc). This hyperawareness/care about her physical self/boundaries is also very prevalent in terms of her stinginess when it comes to physical contact.
Also, a couple small points from EatinApplesauce's analysis (linked below) that I thought were fitting: WC’s see soulmates as a myth (very Wednesday core haha), and they greatly fear losing their reputation (I think Wednesday does care about this; she doesn’t want a conventional reputation, but she is abjectly and extremely offended when people perceive her in a way that she dislikes/thinks diminishes her).
