Oh nooo I hadn’t noticed that my cat’s automatic feeder was getting low on food so as usual she dashed off when she heard the machine start but I couldn’t hear the usual sound of her food falling into the bowl so I went to look and my poor cat was just. Sitting there. Staring at her empty food bowl. Then for a second she glanced up at me then right back to her bowl with the biggest, saddest, most bewildered eyes you could ever imagine on such a small creature. I filled her bowl and the machine right away ofc but I still feel a little guilty 😭
It was a huge milestone of scientific and technological advancement. (Plus, at the time, politically significant). Humanity went to space! We set foot on a celestial body that was not earth for the first time in human history! That’s a big deal! I’ve never thought about it before but now that I have, it’s ridiculous to me that that’s not part of our everyday lives and the public consciousness anymore. Why don’t we have a public holiday and a family barbecue about it. Why have I never seen the original broadcast of the moon landing? It should be all over the news every year!

it's been said before, but leverage season two really is a masterclass of writing around a lead actress' pregnancy. they knew they'd have to give her time off for maternity leave, so they set up a character development plot line near the start of the season which was a natural direction for the character to go based on how she'd already been written. then for the first several episodes leading up to her leave, film her from the chest up or show her back, with only some reliance on loose shirts and large jackets. have her character's development/crisis require her to take time off for herself, but write small scenes that can easily be pre-recorded, so she's never actually gone from the show. then let her return.
it's a great combination of understanding the character, being able to plan good plots ahead of the time, and not being so misogynistic that you resent actors for getting pregnant.
I think my favorite kind of miscommunication to do in fanfic is when a character has only limited understanding of a situation (especially if that's because the other character is concealing something from them) and they use their limited knowledge to come to a conclusion that is 100% reasonable based on what they know, but completely off base from the truth

The latest report shows that the estimated number of endangered vaquita porpoises has modestly increased
While the vaquita is still at very high risk of being lost forever, the fact that they are still around at all is something of a miracle. That their population has actually increased is even more miraculous.
Back in 2017, conservationists made the last-ditch decision to try moving the few remaining vaquitas into a protected sea pen until their habitat could be made safer and their population numbers more stable. Of the two initially captured vaquitas, one had to be released due to stress and the other died before it could be released.
Taking nearly-extinct species into human care is the Hail Mary of conservation, reserved for species where there are less than 50 remaining like the black footed ferret and California condor. When I heard that the vaquita rescue efforts were being called off due to failure, I was sure that was the end.
Even as a fairly hopeful, "life finds a way" person, if someone had told me there would still be vaquitas surviving and having babies in 2025 I would not have believed them.
Vaquitas are the smallest living cetacean species. Their name means "little cow" in Spanish, though they've also been nicknamed "sea pandas". There are only 7-10 adults left, they are still in terrible danger, but the fact that they exist at all 8 years after the "last chance" conservation effort was called off is something to celebrate.
