I have been following Endi’s work since the inception of this blog. His practice personifies what a postdigital practice is all about. I was hoping to feature his work after seeing it in person but that was not possible. When I visit his studio I will do a follow-up to this post.
Second color proof, Hrabreni (O my son, beloved and chosen) woodcut printed in 18-colors from 6 interchangeable plates on Haini Kozo, unique image. Produced in collaboration with WORKSHOP Laser & Fab in Krakow
Second color proof of Pletikosa (Hagar in the Wilderness), hand-printed in eight colors from four interchangeable color blocks on Kozo Okawara, and produced at my studio at ulica Szeroka-Kazimierz.
Second color proof of Zlatan (I was born into these lands) for V.T. 70 cm x 100 cm woodcut hand-printed in colors from four separate blocks on Kozo-shi produced in collaboration with WORKSHOP Laser & Fab
Fourth color proof of Bliski (I lock my door upon myself) hand-printed from four interchangeable color blocks on Kozo Okawara
Artist Statement:
My creative practice in printmaking considers a range of technologies of reproduction as a way to explore certain characteristics of graphic image: translation, multiplicity, seriality. Through my visual work, I seek to construct representations that suggest broader themes of exile, memory and reconciliation.
For many years, I have explored multi-plate color woodcut printing utilizing mostly traditional hand-carving to produce large scale mokuhanga prints. In recent years, I have expanded this practice to use both established and non-traditional methods, combining classical Japanese carving with laser engraving-printing from bit-map data files. In Dream Series, I explore primitive strategies of early cinema to investigate personal and social histories, shifting cultural identities, environmental transformation, migration, and alienation. The current “Dream Series” of color woodcut prints was created in Krakow, Poland during 2015-2016 Fulbright Senior Research Fellowship as well at the Mokuhanga Innovation Lab in Tokyo in March 2017.

I have been living in China now for over a month, making new work, preparing for a solo exhibition of my work Wú 无 (“Without”) at Yu Xiang Cultural & Art Center, as well as teaching. The interactions with my students, their curiosity, excitement and support have been the highlight of my stay in this fascinating country and culture and have made me feel at home doing what I deeply care about making art.
Large crowds and spectacular fireworks at the opening reception of Wú 无 ("Without") exhibition last Friday at Yu Xiang Cultural and Art in China
Wú 无 ("Without") opens tomorrow at Yuxiang Cultural & Art Center in China
Warm welcome from Hunan people! This summer, I have been invited to Changsha, China as a Xiaoxiang International Artist in Residence to teach, make new work and prepare a large survey exhibition of my works, which presents 15 years of my practice in printmedia. Endi Poskovic: Wú 无 (“Without”) opens on Friday, June 16, 2017 at Yu Xiang Art Center.
After almost two years of preparations, it is exciting to see a show of 60 works surveying 15 years of my practice coming together before being installed this week. Endi Poskovic: Wú 无 ("Without") opens this Friday, June 16 at Yu Xiang Art Center. Especially grateful to graduate students Chen Jiadi, Zhang Hui Ling, Zhang Xin Ye, Tang Yi Zhao, and Tan Wei for framing the works and colleagues Liu Jing, Tang Jian Feng, Yi Xin Ling, and Luo Xiangke for their support and the organization of this project.
