For those of you who feel guilty or even silly about grieving a public figure, hereās five reason why thatās completely ok.
@endlessworld246 this made me think of what we talked about a while back

Guys, Book Depository is in the process of closing their old affiliate program, and have created a new platform.
This means that THIS is the new affiliate link that Iām using :) (iām trying to sort out a banner on my blog as well soon)
Reminder that:
1. using an affiliate link means I get up to 5% commission with zero extra costs for you 2. youād be helping me tons if you use it 3. if you do end up clicking this in the hopes of making a purchase, donāt leave the window until youāve finished buying your books, otherwise the commission wonāt come through
Thank you SO much to everyone who has purchased something through my affiliate link throughout the years, you guys have helped so much!
Love you,Ā Mary
P.S. cool to reblog this, thank you!!
I added a banner for this on my blog!Ā
(please donāt ask me how long this took me, the html wasnāt working, i canāt code to save my life, it was an adventure)
Anyway, if you want to use the banner, make sure you donāt have an adblock running on the page, because you wonāt be able to see it :)
Thank you again!!!
Also adding my kofi to this, just to have them all in one place :)
P.S. again, cool to reblog this <3333
Mary is the most precious human i know. I have turned to her ask box numerous times in search of advise.Ā Spread the words and do use her book depository linkĀ
Why do you read? Why do you think itās important to read?
I didnāt have the happiest of childhoods - my dad physically abused me when I was young (7-8 years old), I was sexually abused when I was around 10 y/o (a stranger) and my dad was also very strict while I was growing up, including throughout high school. I didnāt really have friends, I was very focused on my school work and lacked much social interaction - no parties, no going out. Also, we werenāt really well off as a family and that lead to a lot of conflicts and problems. I was very soft spoken, not independent at all and did everything that was asked of me, because i thought that by doing that, at least I tried to keep things floating.
Books became my escape. I was safe in their pages, I could lose myself and I could block out all the nasty things that were happening around me. I could press pause on reality and go somewhere where things had a happy ending, have adventures and most of all, have friends.Ā
I think books truly save people and thatās the most important reason to read them. You can find yourself in a book, you can understand yourself and the world better, you can find solace and meaning. You can find purpose. And maybe forget your unhappiness for a little while. Or, if your life is exactly where you hoped it would be, you can just enjoy reading those words that came from someoneās soul.
So much power and strength to you Mary !!! Wishing you the best in life
My intention isnāt to BOSS people around. But people who donāt create on tumblr really have to understand that if creators stop posting here, you wonāt have anything else to like but maybe memes. If you want content to circle around to your dashboard... you have to pay it forward and reblog. That is why this website is dying. The Ban is not the only reason.
And its like.... people dont even fucking realize how special tumblr is
Tumblr doesnāt have verified checkmarks. Tumblr doesnāt have an algorithm to you show āThe Best Stuffā. Tumblr doesnāt display how many followers you have. Tumblr isnāt obsessed with subscriptions.Ā
Tumblr is an even playing field compared to websites like Twitter, Instagram, and Youtube. Which means its up to us, the users,Ā to spread the word of people we enjoy-- the way the internetĀ should be.
Iām not asking you to reblog shit you donāt like. Iām not asking you to reblog everything out of pity. But when you see a post you genuinely like, reblog it.
I think so many people mistake theĀ āyou should reblogā message withĀ āIām greedy and all I want is notesā when itās really not at all like that.
When creators say theyāre discouraged from creating because their posts get no notes, they donāt mean they will refuse to create unless their last edit reaches at least 1k notes. What they mean is that the effort theyāre putting into creating something purely out of inspiration and the need to share their passion and creativity with the world is being consumed and forgotten, just like it is on Instagram. Tumblr has changed from having an even reblog-like ratio, or even twice as many reblogs as likes, to being another social media where users consume content instead of sharing it.
Weāre not trying to force you to reblog everything or want you to fill your blog with things you donāt like. But Tumblr is built on reblogs andĀ likes. This is not a fast-food company where you can order something, consume it, and then throw it away. The very base of this website is sharing, as opposed to Instagram. Here, likes donāt give our posts exposure, reblogs do.
Notes are not the problem, the fact that you want new content without supporting creators is. So yeah, donāt be surprised if creators stop creating because nobody wants to share their creations.

Yesssss !!! @kajsaschubelerā its finally in words
Attitudes in medicine
I know thereās still a way to go, but can I just say how happy I am that theĀ āmedicine should be your whole lifeā attitude is declining in medicine. Firstly, thereās the reduction in hours, although it can still be tough sometimes. Still, Iām 5 months into being a doctor and the most hours Iāve worked in a week was 66.
Working overtime used to be expected, and āpart of the jobā. I work on surgery at the moment, which is supposedly one of the most toxic and workaholic areas of medicine, and when my registrars leave they always sayĀ āmake sure you leave on time!ā to me - sometimes theyāll even text to check we have. When I was on haem and my senior found out Iād been coming in early to do the list, he was outraged and said he didnāt mind if the ward round starts 10-15 mins late, I shouldnāt come in early.
Weāre actively encouraged to exception report to the hospital, if weāre often having to stay late (which means we either get paid back in money or time off for the extra hours we did).Ā
And when I was at an academic day, someone tentatively asked if it would be frowned upon to take a year out and go travelling etc. And the professor was likeĀ ā30 years ago weād have probably said no. But now, we want you to actually have lives outside of medicine and be well-rounded people! Yes, go on holiday!ā
Can we get a yaaaaas
i absolutely hate it when advice posts tell you to study all the time. i just read one that said,Ā āif you sleep now, youāll dream. if you study now, youāll live your dream.ā i mean, it could be metaphorical, but itās actually a really unhealthy message. studying constantly is not healthy. you need to have a balanced life. you need to have a social life, you need to exercise, you need to sleep. how on earth can you be the best version of yourself if you only study? look after yourself. get at least 6 hours sleep a night. eat healthy food. go outside and see your friends. do things that you love. studying constantly, through the night and day, is not good for you at all.Ā and itās time that the studyblr community learned that.
THIS ! Louder for everyone at the back

@kajsasschubeler, so true. This entire post captures everything I've felt in the last couple of months while posting on tumblr. I know so many people who got tired of seeing repetitive things on tumblr and moved to pinterest and quora coz of this
Rather not breathe
.
Breathless stood the travellers of the dawned night
Ten feet they ran
Now no one had any other soul in sight.
Individually each traveller walked and gasped.
Who knew breathing was such a task?
.
All those hours spent walking away
And all the night changed
Was from inky to murky grey.
The new day shadowed by the dusty dark
Maybe they should've escaped
Before waters crossed their mark.
.
The earth's spherical
Hence the deeds tend to come around
So, the decision of simply abandoning the smoke cloaked cities
Wasn't very sound.
.
The clouds followed them wherever they went
Those angels of death and destruction didn't seem God sent.
The creators of their own destiny
Needed some clean breath desperately.
.
The flowing water too had gone all black
The number of lives lost, it was hard to keep track
So when the rains came
Each one saw his own redemption.
.
The dusts burnt and washed away by the acids
This wasn't the end the glories could have predicted.
But how wouldn't the life end up in smoke
When each traveller believed that planet's upkeep was a joke.
.

Hey so I just his 250 followers!
Yay!!!
I want to do something but no one every talks to me on this blog, so idk. Iām think about taking some requests? Maybe doing drabbles, having a prompt list, short imagines, etc.
Would any of you request? And do you have any suggestions?
I like the prompt list idea, but Iām no good at coming up with suggestions what so ever
Thanks @kajsawritingandrpg!!! My next dilemma is: do I want to write the prompts myself? Or will I just reblog someone elseās list?
But first Iāll wait and see if anyone else wants me to do this lmao
Sounds like a valid approach. And Iām looking forward to see what you end up doing
I would be interested in reading ur prompts

A faerie introduces himself. Then, holding out a hand, asks, āAnd your name, please?ā
And, like a fool, you give it to him.
I got asked for clarification on this (but canāt reblog that particular post cuz on mobile), which Iām more than happy to provide.
In this post, a faerie is asking for āyourā name. The way he is wording it, however, and the accompanying beckoning motion, makes it seem as though he is asking for you to physically hand your name over. Which, because of how some faeries operate, he is.
In this instance, saying your name aloud to the fae would be literally giving your name over to him, the exact consequences of which are left up to the imaginationāusually, a fae even knowing your name gives it some measure of power over you, but giving something your name would likely let it completely take over your life.
In this instance, the wording you want to use is something like āI will not give you my name, but I will tell you that itās [name].ā Alternately, you can just lie to him.
Might i suggest the less direct yet still name-preservingĀ āyou may call meā¦ā? It dodges the request while still giving an answer of a name, which does not even have to be yours, but any name you feel like telling the fae they can use to refer to you. I would recommendĀ āAinselā.
The first time he asks for your name is the first time you meet him. He appears as you walk by the fƦrie ring, that you have not entered because your grandmother has repeated so many times not to do so, and, curious of your presence, watches as you jump when you notice him.
You recognize him instantly. It is the FƦ whose influence your village is under, the one the elders have told you and your friends to be wary about, for the people who have been seen walking away with him have never come back.
You donāt know what he does to them. The villagers have never dared to confront him about it, never dare to address to him at all. He is not evil: he sometimes speaks blessings upon the cattle, talks the horses to calm after a storm, ensures a good harvest for the farmers, makes the flower bloom in spring even when the weather is still too cold. He is, simply, a FƦ, whose ways humans cannot understand.

What Iām looking for (like/reblog if):
Writeblrs that post about their original work not just reblog advice/other writeblrs (no offense meant at all, I just donāt need more of the same stuff).
Booklrs that post things other than aesthetics and engage with the community
Witchblrs that are heavy into Tarot and Kithen Witchyness. Bonus points if youāre a jewish witch.
History blogs that post a lot of art/neat stuff!
Iām a writeblr/booklr/witchblr/aesthetic blog which means I post mostly art.
Just like/reblog this and Iāll check you out I dunno!

Weekly Bookish Question #144Ā (September 1st - September 7th):
How many pages does the book you are currently reading have? In how far do you care about how long a book is?Ā
Iām currently reading Winter from the Lunar Chronicles series.
Number of pages - 827
Tbh, I donāt care much about the bookās length. Sometimes I read a singe thick book in a day while other times the same book can take me a month to read ...Ā
