I feel so lost these days whenever I try explaining to someone that I enjoy dark romance, but it's come to a point in which even I don't know how to word it properly.

Dark romance books are incredibly hot on the market right now, which in theory means that I should be drooling 24/7... But I am NOT. They're all the fucking same and I can't stand it. The fem MC is always either this submissive little doormat OR she's a badass who doesn't need anyone™ but still needs someone.

Don't get me started with the main male character(s), they're all the same carbon copy of the Internet Shadow Daddy™ archetype - tall, big, rich, doesn't take shit from anyone aside from his woman and of course, his penis is the biggest and grandest thing since the conception of the Sun itself.

I'm tired. I am TIRED of this nonsense, and it's even worse when people think I actually want a relationship like this. Brother NO, what I CRAVE is the yearning aspect, the parts which make you go insane with how uncertain your own feelings and heart are...

This is why books that were written 200+ years ago are genuinely better at being "dark romance" (I use that very loosely here, I'm mostly thinking about things like Wuthering Heights but that's not romance... But the insanity aspect is there, so I can shoehorn it in),than actual books which are being marketed that way.

And look, I'm not here to kink shame anyone who likes this kind of stuff, the market exists for a reason!!!! But I just want some VARIETY god-damn it all!
