Since it’s Mother’s Day, I truly believe Katniss and her mother are far more similar than people give them credit for (especially Katniss herself).
Throughout the series, Katniss puts this distance between the two of them:
“I don’t have the healing gift, Prim got that”
“I got my dad’s skills, not my mum’s”
“I would NEVER go catatonic and abandon people who need me like that”
And valid, yknow. The trauma Katniss went through was intense and not one many of us can really comprehend and is something that stick with her for the rest of her life.
But they really are just so similar. When Katniss loses Peeta, she becomes depressed and completely unresponsive to her responsibilities. Even Prim.
When Katniss loses Prim she becomes completely catatonic and quite literally attempts to take her life.
And Katniss IS a healer. As much as she tries to distance herself from it, she knows what she is doing and how to do it when it comes to looking after sick people.
Honestly the "but Peeta wanted kids so bad" line from the Mockingjay epilogue is really funny to me because for three books Katniss has been projecting her desire for children onto a guy who hasn't really ever verbally expressed any interest in having kids, so I do genuinely think the whole "kids vs. no kids" debate happened entirely internally for Katniss and one day she just went "ok, you win, let's have kids" and Peeta's at the kitchen table like"?????? Ok??????"
Stuck on the reservation, listening to the elders' stories of the old ways roaming the great plains, it's no wonder Howling Gale has little patience for the white men who claimed their lands and is so frustrated by Rains Fall's pacifism. Still, despite the wild temper he was named for, he's a charismatic and thoughtful young man who loves nothing more than exploring the last fragments of wilderness his homeland has to offer. He also has a knack for tinkering and likes to keep his hands busy; often he can be found improving the tribe's traps and weapons or carving wooden toys for the children.
Every morning, the queen asked her magic mirror to show her the most beautiful person in the world.
The mirror replied "To whom?"
"The miller who made the flour for my bread," the queen would say, or "Whoever spun the thread my shawl was made of".
The mirror would show her, and she'd be amazed.
When people argue that food from Chinese and Mexican restaurants in the US are not 'real' representations of that culture's cuisine ignore the historical reality that these dishes were developed by diasporic communities striving to recreate the flavors of home with available resources. Such criticism frames adaptation as a loss of authenticity, rather than recognizing it as a sincere and evolving expression of culture by people separated from their homeland.

katniss feeling guilty for "withholding" kisses from gale I feel is very telling about their entire relationship
everything between them is transactional, it was like that from the start, with their hunting and taking care of each other's families. pre- 74th games katniss didn't think anything romantic about gale, and I'm pretty sure she didn't really feel strong (romantic) feelings for him at all even through mockingjay. even while making out with the man her brain is a mile away. but, I think, subconsciously, she's aware that gale likes her in that way. so she sees showing him romantic affection as a way of repaying him (for what? I mean, taking care of her family, but also lots of her guilt revolves around even remotely caring about peeta at least in my opinion)
so gale was right, katniss only shows him romantic affection when he's in pain, because she does care about him, but she's also distantly aware that kissing him or returning his advances even temporarily is what he wants and is what would make him feel better
gale is also immaturely entitled to katniss and feels threatened by her having any sort of relationship with a man not even necessarily close to her age.
he clearly feels some sort of ownership over her, as can be seen with his aggression towards peeta, finnick, and it's implied he wasn't very friendly towards darius. jealousy can be understood, he is/was a teenage boy after all, but voicing those jealousies and by extension putting pressure on katniss to return his feelings because he did so much for her is the harmful part
in a previous post I pointed out how peeta defended gale after he was whipped without any romance-related comments to katniss at all, regardless of if he felt them or felt jealous (which it's implied he does feel at least sad after katniss wakes up from sleeping beside gale) he didn't voice those thoughts and therefore didn't push any guilt onto katniss for not paying enough attention to him, which is the biggest difference between him and gale.
whether it be consciously or subconsciously, I think gale was pushing guilt onto katniss for her not returning his affections, tying back into that entitlement thing. his hostility towards finnick, and saying he's "back on track" after getting Annie back, which means he probably just wasn't spending as much time with katniss anymore, is a wild thing to say about a man 7 years older than she is, and who was her anchor in the weeks/months before getting peeta back
gale apparently just has an entirely different set of priorities from everyone else, and katniss is at least on some level aware that he wants her affections. she feels guilty for not giving him what she and he think is "owed", and that forms the basis of their relationship post-74th games.
I personally think this type of dynamic would've culminated anyway, since katniss was appalled and apparently had never even considered romance with gale, but he was already thinking about it. it's just a disconnect that I think would have festered with or without the games or peeta.
What people don’t understand about Gale and Katniss’ relationship is that their relationship with love is almost the exact same
“Gale thinks Katniss owes him her love” well yes he views relationships as transactional… because that is how all of his relationships have ever functioned. That’s how district 12 works. Katniss teaches him to hunt, he teaches her how to trap. She takes care of his family, he takes care of hers. Katniss functions in the same way except she’s always worrying about paying back her debts rather than cashing them in
Katniss is constantly thinking about paying Peeta back for acts of love or kindness. It goes back to the bread, even. She feels like she owes him and the Mellarks as a whole because he saved her life, it’s a debt she doesn’t feel like she can ever pay back
Love has only been given to both of them when they give something in return. Katniss feels constantly indebted to Peeta for this reason, and Gale thinks him and Katniss are inevitable because if he’s giving her love, her “duty” is to give it back
It is an entitled attitude to have, but Katniss would think the exact same way if she were in Gale’s position and I don’t think people realize that
Katniss grows out of this mindset while Gale never never does and that is their key difference to me
(To be clear I’m not an everthorne truther. Everlark till I die. But I’m SICK of everthornes complexity going under the radar)
the pitt viewers: no guys he's intentionally written as an abusive boss who hates women it's all about realism and telling complicated stories
noah wyle: what? no, robby loves women and has never done anything wrong ever
it would be so nice if you were allowed to start working on projects before you hit the 12 hour until deadline mark but sadly it’s not possible with our current technology. scientists are hard at work but for now this is one of the limitations we must face as a people

The lackluster romance and overemphasised 'love triangle' in The Hunger Games movies makes more sense when you frame it as Peeta's hijacked memories after the war.
Katniss being super cold towards him? The terrible cave scene? The emotionless 'I need you' on the beach? The general lack of chemistry between them? All the Gale angst?? Peeta's entire character being reduced to a damsel in distress and very much feeling like a spare part??? The totally weird and unsatisfying epilogue where the distance between them in the field is emphasised and something about the lighting and framing makes it feel like a Bad Ending????
boom hijacking it's all in his head
what I mean: "sexual intercourse" is as much a social construct as "romantic courtship," and you discover this very quickly as a queer person if you try to talk to able bodied straight cis people who literally think the only thing that counts as Actual Sex is penis-in-vagina penetration, like they call oral "foreplay" it's so dire. various people have a lot of vested interest in cleanly defining "sex" vs "not sex" for a whole slew of reasons (ex. censorship dodging and enforcing, conferring the social clout of virginity and prowess, finding and closing loopholes about premarital sex, deciding what relationships "count" as serious partnerships, ligating what is general assault vs sexual assault vs Something That's Definitely Probably Fine And Not Sexual At All, Actually, etc.), and it's really not something you can just fall back on as obvious common sense that people are dumb for questioning.
what I say: sex isn't real and you can't have it

As much as I'm loving the places Daredevil: Born Again S2 is going, it is really hard to watch as it too closely parallels current events. People claiming things are good because they can "feel" it, how people are disappeared to unknown locations, the comparison of the vigilantes as animals, brutal violence at the hands of the mayor's personal task force, data being made up to lock people up forever… I could go on.
But hey, at least we get the restaurant owner (Ariana) calling the AVTF officers fucking fascists. Which is correct.
Frank didn't kill enough of those task force clowns last season.
