Another bloody petal, another day closer to death—another day of Steve not loving him back (Tony has no doubt about it). Of course, at least like this, he knows Steve is still alive.

"Tony,” Steve says. He sounds pleased. He must know already why Tony is here. He asks anyway. Tony can’t tell if that’s cruel or kind. “Have you thought about my offer?”  

Tony can’t quite meet Steve’s eyes, scared what he might see—too scared what he might not. There isn’t much left of the world to sell, the only thing Tony can trade away now is this. It’s just two words. Say it. Say it. 

Two words for three. 

It’s worth it. It has to be. 

“Hail Hydra,” Tony says, voice breaking. 

(It shouldn’t be so easy to do this.)

Steve smiles.

“I didn’t come here to kept,” says Tony. “No?” Steve smiles sadly. “Only because you don’t go anywhere expecting to be wanted.”
