It's interesting that adoption is considered "legal fiction" wherein birth certificates are changed to claim the adopted parents as effectively the birth parents and the birth parents are rendered legal strangers. Strangely, people concerned about birth certificates adhering to their flawed reckoning of biology do not seem as concerned about this. This is pretty strong precedent that arguments about sex shouldn't even matter to begin with, since even if trans women and trans men really were "male" and "female" respectively, there's no reason but bigotry to treat the issue any differently.

I just Googled the Swedish-Japanese guy in the OP, and according to this interview, his Japanese name was given to him by the master gardener he was apprenticed under:
