Red eyes as deep as crimson turned to watch Lydia in a fascination. Her game was her focus, yes, yet her curiosity was caught in this human’s web. How could someone be so at peace by something so simple? It was something that had always eluded the vampire; how something with a life so small could be enraptured by things far too simple. There was so much more out there to experience, yet something akin to a pool is relaxing?
“I certainly have never heard of anyone else being comforted by pools,” was the blunt reply. It was not intended to be harsh, but it felt as such as it left her tongue. There was no shift in her expression as she said this to the smiling woman above her. There was a subtle tilt of her head as her thoughts shifted. “Is there a reason you like it here? Something that happened to you?”
Something that happened to her? Maybe, but she couldn’t think of anything. To her it was just welcoming, like stepping into a caring embrace. Maybe the travel she did as a young girl caused a place like this to seem more like home. A repurposed hotel turned into an orphanage. She lived in hotels for a long time. Maybe she’d talk to Alexis sometime soon and find out if there was any connection.
“Growing up I spent a lot of time traveling from one place to another. Mom and dad were trying to find the perfect place to open up an orphanage so we didn’t ever really settle in until I was around eleven. I’ve always lived my life in hotels, and I do enjoy swimming. Maybe that’s where it comes from. These pool rooms are all very similar.” She told her, shrugging a bit before walking to the waters edge. “Do you have a place like this? Somewhere that feels unique to you?” She wondered.
As Lydia spoke about her past, Lillia offered her full focus to the story. It was not much in the long run, but, for her, it was more than she was willing to offer mortals. As Lydia moved, she followed to the water's edge, staring into the blue that reflected back at them. This vampire was grateful that it was silvered mirrors that she had reflection problems with and not everything. This small action might have ruined everything otherwise. Though, as she looked at herself within the water, she deftly adjusted her neck bow.
"Somewhere unique to me?" the question trailed off her lips as she thought. She could simply lie and tell her something tragic, but that made things tedious. That, and the fact that she couldn't think of one was heart ache enough to this conversation. "I cannot think of one, no... The closest thing I have is an affinity to roses," Lillia explained, peeling her gaze from the water to look at Lydia proper.
entertaining-intentions:
Listening intently to what he had to say about his own, her smile stretched to a warm embrace to look at. To a stranger, it looked safe and welcoming, something that one would give to a child of theirs. “Realism is hard to get down,” Coco mused quietly, mostly to herself.
As he looked closer at her art, the blonde looked over his face, taking in his features as he analyzed it. The sound of his words snapped her attention to them as he simply praised her. It was odd sense of whiplash, not expecting the compliments. “Oh, thanks! This one was bought buy a boutique for distribution and, well, I think it was a pretty limited run.” Taking her phone back, a lithe giggle escaped her. “Maybe we could go to a park and make some art together later,” she suggested, implying a second date between the two of them.
A limited run probably meant the clothing she had made was actually very valuable now. If her fashion business started to get traction, it would raise the value even more. He doubted she would care all that much, she wouldn’t have to buy her own clothes from the folks who had purchased it when it was available, but that did create publicity he was sure. It would make her designs more desirable.
“Uh. Yeah maybe,” He mumbled, shifting in his seat. He wasn’t really a fan of drawing out in public. He just had a hard time telling her he even liked to draw in the first place. Maybe she was just trying to help push him out of his comfort zone. Sure, that could be the case but he wasn’t really in the habit of allowing strangers, or acquaintances, effect him so quickly.
“I wouldn’t mind heading to the park some time.” He told her. No point turning her down fully. For the most part he was indeed enjoying his time with her, even if he was pretty quiet and not much of a conversationalist.
The fact that he was so reserved was oddly interesting, on a personal level. She wondered just what was going through that head of his. What thoughts were prompting his words and actions. Really, it was just a curiosity that was driving this part of her investigation, not her boss. Though, that in itself caught her a bit off guard, who knew she would take such a personal interest.
"Then it's a date," the confident flirt in response was followed by a wink, trying to play up a few things to loosen him up even more, if it were possible. She knew that this was going to be a long job before even accepting this date, but you couldn't blame her for trying at the very least. "Have any parks that are your favorite? Ones with good scenery and benches are always a plus in my books," Coco mused, trying to think of any that she knew of in this area that fit her own bill.
entertaining-intentions:
The fascination that painted his face as Sapphira began to explain. Sure, it was not a lot to go by and she was cutting the explanation short, but it still helped his curiosity. He understood not being a time for a talk of any topic, he learned it the hard way with his higher ups quickly after gaining his senses. Though, what she said next caught him off guard.
“Huh?” Was the first reaction he could produce as he stared blankly at Sapphira. The threat of death and the air of seriousness did not get overlooked.
Quickly, he raised his hands in a defensive manner, waving them in front of himself as if he was trying to wave off the negative comment. “I-I wouldn’t dare tell a soul! No! Scratch that! They don’t even need a soul! It won’t leave the three of us!” He sputtered out with a frantic flair.
“Wow you really have him wrapped around your finger already.” Josiah mumbled, watching as Ekko reacted in the manner he did. Sapphira let out a gentle chuckle and looked over at Josiah through one open eye.
“I did say we’re getting married tomorrow.” She joked once again, looking at Ekko and giving him a genuine smile.
“Good boy. Glad you understand this is a secret. Now then. Do you want to stay in the living room all day? The house isn’t huge, but it does fit six of us. I can show you around, or we could go out back and relax. We have all day to do whatever you’d like.” She said. Might as well offer to let him choose what to do. He was a free man now, no sense in letting others decide his life for him any longer.
Calming his movement, Ekko pauses, hands still in front of himself in a defensive measure. The emotional whiplash he was getting from these two was tiring, yet invigorating at the same time. It was such a new thing to experience while also not having to worry about how he reacted to anything. Well, easier said than done. A flinch of his fingers and a tinge of blush upon his cheeks was the only indicator something had caught him so off guard. The quick, almost nonchalant praise that Sapphira cast towards him caused another bought of confusion. Quickly, however, he push past it to deal with it later.
"Either sounds enjoyable, really! Though, a tour might be helpful if I'll be staying here for a while," sheepishly Ekko admitted, trying to calm his circuitry still.
The two guards glanced to each other for a moment before looking back to the traveler before them. Hujan watched with a careful eye. She seemed unimposing enough. This could be interesting, or another very boring part of her day.
"What are you coming in for? We're keeping track of everyone coming in and out for the time being. Lots of criminals been popping up so this is how we're keeping folk accountable." One stated. He was clearly taking his job much too seriously.
"Bold of you to assume this one could do something worth your time." Hujan mused from behind them. The two glanced back at him and shifted uneasily before looking back to her.
"Name please. And length of stay."
Pausing, Myra looked between the guards as they explained what they were doing. Though, with that being said, oddly enough, she began to relax. Most people in these situations would be clamming up, or at least becoming wary of why they were doing this. Blue eyes glanced to the dragonborn at his remark; she couldn't help but chuckle. Something worth their time- laughable. Placing her hand on her hip, she shook her head. Not only did they not recognize her, but they thought she was nothing. It almost rang in her heart like a nightingale. "Ah- sorry. My name is Myra, I'm an adventurer looking for work... So, I'll stay as long or as little as you'll have me?"
@entertaining-intentions liked for a starter!
It was an early morning today. He woke up, did his morning routine of exercise, and made his way into the streets of the city. Patrol duty as normal again today, typical, boring, and lacking in his favorite thing of any mission. Combat. He was clearly unimpressed, and his already fierce features were only made all the worse by the look on his face. Most people stayed out of his way when they saw him coming. He barely even noticed.
As he made his way to the city gate, he paused, watching as someone was approaching to enter the city. He looked between the two gate keepers and decided to see what was going on here, stepping to the side slightly to watch the interaction go down between this newcomer and the town watch. At least it was something to do for the day.
Stretching her arms above her head the road was finally coming to a close. A town, city maybe, she couldn't tell. Either way, it was a place that she could get warm food and a bed to sleep on tonight. As she walked, her sword and potions clinking against her made her drop her hands back to her sides with a small frown. Slowing her stride, Myra regarded the guards with a smile, attempting to pass, but getting stopped by their weaponry. Crossing her eyes to look at the blade, she moved her gaze to the guard holding it before taking a few steps backwards. "Right, uh... Hi. This place under lock-down, or something?" She looked between the two of them with the kindest smile she could produced, one that was practiced and as trained as much as her sword. "Any other reason I can't enter?" she concluded with the silence the two gave off.

Josiah looked to Sapphira now. How were they supposed to explain this without fully saying what they truly were. To him, Ekko was unique in a way. He wasn’t human at the very least. But to say they were Nephilim? That was a bit forward. Sapphira simply shook her head and leaned forward to fully join the talk they were all having.
“No, not everyone. And it’s not really magic.” She said. Well, to a normal mortal it would considered magic. Maybe that was the best way to truly describe what they could do, but they were some of the few who had capabilities like this. Since they understood what they had, it wasn’t magic to them. It was…well…normal. “The extent of what we’re capable of can also vary, but it might not be the best time to discuss that.” She told him, sitting back on the couch and closing her eyes, putting her hands behind her head.
“Oh, and by the way. If you tell anyone that we’re…magical. I’ll have to deactivate you permanently.” She added in softly. Josiah’s eyes widened and he looked over at Ekko. He was about to say not to worry and that it was a joke, but he knew it wasn’t. He tried to give him a comforting smile, but he himself was a bit surprised by how forward it was.

He looked to her drawing, taking in the details as best as he could. He tried to pay special attention to any little details he was able to find. Art could be a process, and someone being able to point out the small things was something he knew some people really enjoyed. There was connection in seeing someone who could appreciate everything you put into a piece. Not that he often showed off his artwork. Hannah was the main one who saw anything he drew.
“Uh. I don’t know if I really have a favorite. I learned realism so…I tend to just draw what, or who, I see.” ‘And who I remember. I don’t want to forget them.’ He leaned a little closer while examining the artwork. “An interesting choice of flow. I don’t know much about designing clothes, but I Can at least say this looks like something I could see someone wearing. You’ve done a great job creating something believable.” He told her, sitting back up.
Listening intently to what he had to say about his own, her smile stretched to a warm embrace to look at. To a stranger, it looked safe and welcoming, something that one would give to a child of theirs. “Realism is hard to get down,” Coco mused quietly, mostly to herself.

Well, she couldn’t truly explain what it was about the indoor pools that comforted her. Maybe the calm of an empty room, the water making gentle noises when disturbed by a soft air flow. Maybe it was the smell? Even though the room had a strong scent of Chlorine, it never really bothered her. Maybe it was the difference in the atmosphere from night to day. When she was the only one in here, it felt serene, a welcoming quiet, one that wanted her to bask in it and join it. Quiet sounds felt all that much louder, but it wasn’t overwhelming by any means.
“Well, maybe you can find a new experience here and now. I’ve swam in many places. There’s even a lake on the edge of town that I’ve spent a lot of time in and around, but it’s always different from swimming here, or just staying in the gentle quiet.” She told her, taking a few steps into the room and closing her eyes, smiling as she took in the feeling, taking a deep breath. “Maybe it’s a bit odd. To be comforted by such a strange thing. But I think that’s the beauty of it sometimes. Maybe I’m the only one who feels this way. I think that’s kinda cool if that’s true.” She told her, looking down with a loving smile.

Josiah looked over at Sapphira as Ekko brought up the changing hair color. Of course he wouldn’t understand, not many people did. He gave her a shocked look before his face changed to that of confusion. She looked over at him and a gentle smile crossed her lips. If Ekko was paying close enough attention, he could see a small flash of light in Sapphira’s eyes, thought it was very small and lasted only a moment.
‘I got myself into a bit of a bind. I’ll tell you all about it, don’t worry. I bet you’ll be proud.’ She said, though it was inaudible to anyone but Josiah, who heard it echoing through his mind.
‘I hate when you do that when we aren’t on a mission.’ He responded in turn.
“Well! If it’s that easy to just say you’re impersonating him, we could do that. But I’m sure it’ll get annoying quickly if we’re ever out in public. So if you ever need a change in appearance let us know!” Josiah told him with a grin.
As Ekko watched the two of them communicate wordlessly, he did not think much of it. His higher ups would often use eye movements and simple gestures to communicate things to people; though he got really good at reading what his higher ups were communicating, when others did it, he fell flat. To him, he simply thought that it was different with everyone. There was a pause as Josiah spoke up, something that caught Ekko’s attention. The use of “we” and “us.” It could simply be a nice way of putting it, but the connotations made his wonder a few things.
“I apologize if it’s a bit forward, but,” there was a light pause, “Is that whole magic thing something everyone here can do?” He wanted to ask more, but even he did not know what questions here would be appropriate. He felt that these types of questions where akin to them asking him how his skin worked in detail; he could give a general explanation, but that was kind of personal.
piecesofacrow:
He watched as she moved right past the ISPF. That was a relief. Granted, if she looked it up, she could find out what the ISPF were on the outside. But if she was willing to move past it he would be take that and run with it. Thinking about what hobbies he had, he really did wonder if they were all that strange. Maybe he thought they were.
“Uh. I like to draw.” He said quietly, avoiding eye contact as he told her. His face darkened slightly. For whatever reason he always found it embarrassing that it was something he did. He drew all the time, got pretty good at it, and never really showed people that he did.
The flick on her screen paused as she looked to Israel, her expression a bit hard to pinpoint. A slight arch of the brow in tandem with a soft look in her eyes. Without breaking that line of sight, she scrolled back up in her phone for a few swipes. Drawing was not weird in the slightest, so she was slightly taken aback by the normalcy of it after he talking it down so much. Even his reaction now to saying that was a hobby of his was odd, and oddly adorable. He really thought this was something to be ashamed of?
“Drawing, huh? That’s pretty cool!” Finally breaking that contact, that lasted mere seconds, if we’re being generous, she looked to her phone and tapped on a picture. In a fluid motion, she flipped her phone around to show a picture of drawn fashion models in different types of clothing. “I draw a lot, especially when I was coming up with new designs. What are your favorite subjects to draw?”
piecesofacrow:
“Of course! Honestly, even if I’m not swimming, sometimes I like to sit in the pool room. It’s kinda nice sometimes.” She told her, leading her down the hallway and to a glass door. It was easy enough to see the pool beyond the door, but he opened the door for her and let the young girl in.
“But it’s somewhat calming in here. Just feels calm when you step in you know?” She said, trying to make things as casual as possible. She didn’t want Lilia to feel like Lydia was some imposing authority figure, but instead make her feel very comfortable.
The girls eyes traced the area up to the pool room and inside of the room itself with curiosity. Although she had an air of “old soul” to her, she still had that child-like wonderment to new things. Even being the old hag she is, she has rarely entered indoor pools, so it was a very genuine reaction with her looking about.
Not many people were about in here, so she was more comfortable than she thought she was going to be. Larger groups of children tended to irritate her. Well, quicker than a singular child, that is. A thought crossed her mind that she quickly subdued to ask Lydia; “Has anyone ever drown here?” probably was not the best thing to ask after she was talking about this space being calming for her. “Unfortunately, I do not. Most of my reference on swimming is in lakes and rivers. However, I will take your word on that, Miss.”
piecesofacrow:
“Ehhh. You’ll get there one day champ.” Josiah said, patting him on the back with a big smile, hoping to give some sense of reassurance. He tried, and that’s really all one could hope for. You never learn if you don’t try right? Sapphira was giving a gentle smile as well, finding his attempt at sarcasm a bit endearing.
“Don’t push yourself to learn things too fast. Unfortunately, I think our minds work differently on a fundamental basis. So I don’t know what the learning process looks like for you. Try to get yourself settled in before you start pushing yourself to learn new things.” Sapphira suggested.
“Hey speaking of blending in and learning stuff, do we need to change your hair at all? It’s pretty obvious who you are just from a glance.” Josiah stated, looking over Ekko a few times.
“Usually it’s just copy and effect,” Ekko said quietly to the comment on his learning process. Things such as site-reading music, or improv dancing was second nature to him for the years he’s been doing, but learning something new that was subject to opinion was near impossible to do quickly. There were too many vulnerabilities and, even if he was fed the perfect formula on how to do it, it would never be good as something organic.
His gaze turned to Josiah in a quizzical manner. “Sapphira changed it for a bit when we were in a crowd, but I doubt that’s something cost effective to do long term... Though, I still don’t understand how she did it, but that’s not the point.”
Adjusting himself, his lips tugged into a smirk of a smile. “I may have something to remedy this, actually! It’s worked a few times before, so it has promise. I just say that I’m an impersonator!” Yes, he was just going to gloss over the fact that he has used this excuse personally to not stop and talk with fans.
“Have fun simping on your significant others, I’ll be over here drinking until I forget who I am.”
screamingeagle:
His grin only grew as he squeezed her hand– a firm grip, not underestimating her strength one bit, and soon the Chicagoan enthusiastically shook it. “ Hahah–! Don’t mind at all, missus, the name’s Max! Max Bennett– Staff-sergeant, pleasure meetin’ ya! My wife– she helps out a lot wit’ this resistance stuff n’ she’s off in Hollywood! I don’t mind workin’ wit’ a miss– or people who don’t feel like bein’ a man or miss, neither– as long as we get help? We’s GOLDEN! ” She could see the way Max did a little jig, too, fists shaking in the air in joy with a determined,
“ YEAAA-HEAH, BA-BYYY! ” But, the staff-sergeant was quick to pause and turn, remembering that they had a job to do. “ Right! I kno’ this city like the back’uh my hand. We’re on Madison right now– if we go down Randolph street ova’ there n’ reach Washington n’ Wells, it’s under the Metro lines! Good hidin’ spot. Nazi bastards won’t get us there. ” Soon, he turned to get back onto the debris again, standing above everyone– he was a loud man, really was! He was able to yell to those people no problem. Lungs of a goddamn king, it felt like.
“ ALRIGHT, EVERYONE, LISTEN UP! We’s gonna have all’a ya grouped up wit’ ya families or wit’ people you can consider BATTLE-BUDDIES! No complainin’– we gotta get MOVIN’! Get whatever’s important to ya n’ follow my lead, we’s leavin’ in TWENNY MINUTES! ”
Now turning to Eve, the soldier lightly ran his fingers through his hair, hopping down with a noticeable spring to his step. Clicking his tongue, he placed his hands on his hips, “ Gonna give ‘em some time to get the stuff they need, then we’s headin’ out! What’s your name, anyhoo? Didn’t catch it. ”
The fact that the man before her got this excited was oddly calming. Charming, sure, but the way this soldier pranced and paraded himself without a care of what others thought of him caused a pang of remembrance to flow through her. This humanity, right here, was the reason she was fighting her fights. To rid the world of evils so that unbridled joy like this could flourish. Perhaps their fights were not as different than she first thought. With his shift in tone when she noted the next stage of the plan, she gave a hum of interest. There were always at least two sides to every coin, the fact that he could flip that easily was admirable. Her gaze moved to the small crowd, watching how they took this information and orders in turn. Most had no other choice as this was better than nothing at all.
“Twenty minutes is rather generous, Soldat Max, I would have given them ten.” She gave a smile to her light joke before her eyebrow raised at the others question. “Eve Jacquet,” there was a smirk tugging upon the corners of her lips, “Just a ballerina from France. No medals as shiny as yours, I assure you.” What she said was true, she just kept the full truth behind a few layers of protection. With this new plan unfolding, everything would be out on the table soon enough. Now was not the time to uncover a whole underground society to a mere man, after all.
