âOkay baby,
Alright sounds good to me, my treat!
âWell, I certainly wasnât paying...âÂ
âOkay baby,
âHmmmmmâŠ..well you can always try my other suggestions. Just saying. We could go for dinner spicy food was one of the options I gave you.âÂ
âI tried that. Or at least as spicy as I could manage.... but I am hungry - so lets go eat anyway!âÂ
Text to Martin:
E: This is the one and only time I will ever give you permission to leave work early...
âMy life philosophy,â Marcus laughed in reply. He nodded at her comment and crossed his arms against the table. âIâm sure itâll pop out soon enough. I take it you and the father arenât, uh, together then?â
âGod no.â She scoffed, shaking her head. âNo no. We were never together as such, just occasionally when the need arose. Happy little accident, as they say.âÂ
âOkay baby,
âDid that pep talk work? Anything? Any movement?âÂ
âOh thereâs plenty of movement, pretty sure the thing is playing soccer with my bladder and last night it even had the hiccups. But no birth... not even the slightest sigh of a contraction.âÂ
âIs there anyone in particular whose teeth are being kicked in?â
âProbably the fathers... itâs half his fault after all and Iâm not going to be kicking my own in.â
âI donât know about the brain rotting, but um, alright then. Not too surprised, to be honest. No problem! Work it, babe! Make pregnant look yummy, I know when Iâm pregnant, Iâm gonna be a sick bitch!âÂ
âWell, itâs either that or my mother was always a selfish bitch. Remember that when youâre pregnant, the glow only lasts for so long and then you start to feel like a whale...âÂ
âNo rest for the wicked â but yes, I agree.âÂ
âIâm Elysa by the way, and if youâre ever near the Brew Buzz - stop in and you an have a free drink of your preference for being a decent human being.âÂ
âI would hope that being pregnant is reason enough by itself for people not to mess with you⊠out of a sense of moral decency or something?â
âI appreciate the company though, thank you. Iâm supposed to be heading to Bleecker Street, wherever that might beâŠâ
âYouâd think so, and for most it probably is, but I wouldnât put it past everyone around here. Sad as that is to say.âÂ
âDonât mention it, I was kinda heading that way myself anyway. Whatâs on Bleecker Street that youâre interested in?â
âOh, alright.â He didnât see why she couldnât have just started by saying that, but he wasnât going to mention that. About to respond to her mention of being honored and whatnot, he instead found his cheeks getting warm from embarrassment. âThank you, I think? Like I said, though, I really donât have much time for much of anything.â
âAre you blushing right now? I take it you donât get too many compliments either, what with your busy schedule?âÂ
âOkay baby,
âWell we could just a private one â I mean if you really want him to come out.
âI donât know... Iâd rather not do it in the water at all if Iâm honest.âÂ
âWell thank you I guess.  But Iâm still going to say that doesnât make me a better person.âÂ
âI do. Better than some anyway.âÂ
âI have timeâŠâ his mouth was, uncharacteristically so these days, was faster than his mind. These days because upon times when he was but a prisoner among four walls of his parentâs house, he used to lash out instinctively, annoyed by the way they breathed, chewed their food, spokeâŠbut now that he was on his own, he was forced to thread carefully, to be a spider threading its web with words, so he would survive. So he corrected himself âNot as much as I once did, but an hour should suffice for start, right? I mean, I hardly believe destiny brought us together only so weâd never see each other again. I really donât want to lose you again.â He usually wasnât so open about his emotions, but his usual conversations were narrowed down to strangers in a smelly cab that wasnât even his; this was Elysa and she wasâŠwell, Elysa. âI often forget youâre the older one - itâs got to be that baby face.â And it wasnât far from how he was looking upon her âsituationâ; to him, she was a baby about to have one but they both were, undoubtedly, survivors. Sheâd manage. âSounds like youâve surrounded yourself with caring people - if you ever need another oneâŠâ although the sentence of ambiguous ending, his role in the aid was implied; he too would help. With his eyes fixed on her belly, he followed her lead âUm, Maria - she was my nanny? I think you met her, though we were really young and I know my memories are like of that fish from NemoâŠDory, is it? You should name your child Dory.â he joked. âAnd talking about your child - is it a boy or a girl? What are you gonna name it? How did it even happen - and please, no sass and crash course on birds and bees.âÂ
âI donât think Iâm ready for a lecture on all the mistakes Iâve made recently. No offence.â She muttered, shaking her head. She didnât really expect him to give her a lecture, it might have been something he would have done five years prior but now she couldnât be certain on that fact, but she still wasnât ready for him to judge her for her actions just yet. âBut that doesnât mean we canât hang out, Iâve got an hour to spare of threeâ She smiled up at him, he really had got so damn tall, and felt a heart warming sense of longing for the friend she had lost, but that feeling also came with an unwanted feeling of homesickness. Which she pushed back down into the dark recesses of her heart. âEnough with the baby face, at least Iâll look fresh faced for longer than you.â She smirked, nudging him playfully with her elbow, slipping back into comfortable as easily as if they had never been apart. She then tucked her arm through his, uncharacteristically for the Elysa she was now but something she had done often when they were younger. âI guess Iâm learning that you can never have too many friends.â She laughed, she couldnât help herself. âYouâre living with your old nanny? I remember her alright - why are you living with her? And I am not naming this kid Dory... itâd be a laughing stock.â She shook her head, a smile still plastered on her lips and although it felt somewhat foreign it also felt so right. âItâs a surprise, and we havenât really talked about names - we havenât really talked about much... well how do you expect me to answer that? You know how it works... you know how babies are made.âÂ
âNo - itâs right. Hopefully not for this setting, but itâs generally true.â
âWell - there should be a saying for those who do good deeds that we donât want to be punished, but yâknow - thanked.âÂ
âOkay baby,
âSome people do live water births. Are you in or not?â
âI mean... as much as Iâd love to push this monster out - Iâd rather not do it in a public pool.âÂ
âOkay baby,
âMaybe we should get you in a pool â and maybe the baby would want to come out.â
âA pool? Really --âÂ
âOkay baby,
âWell, spicy food maybe? â Have you talked to the doctors about the baby? Is it a girl or a boy?â
âTried that too. The Doctors just tell me to wait, itâll come when itâs ready. Yeah - I know what it is...âÂ
