Dear Internet (Diary)
Do you ever have one of those says where it starts out okay, and you think “this isn’t as bad as I thought it was going to be.” But then, as the day drags on, it gets gradually worse, because of the people you are surrounded by during that day? Because that was my day today. Which got me thinking.
I work a shitty hospitality job to pay the bills and fill my days. My partner is away on deployment and won’t be back until June, so it’s good to have a job to occupy the time alone. Though, there are some days where the only speaking I do is to my cats.
I never intended to stay in this job as long as I have. I just don’t know what to do with my life, and I’m really getting sick of being walked all over by certain people above me who seem to really enjoy power. These types of people are sucking the life out of me.
I feel like I have aged 10 years in the 12 months I’ve been there.
I just really wish I knew what to do with my life. I have thought endlessly about it since I was 16 years old. And I’m none the wiser.
I can’t afford to leave this job right now, as it does pay well and I can’t not have a job lined up while my partner is away. But I’m sick of flicking between jobs. This always happens to me. I either hate the job right off the bat, or I get bored at the 12 month mark and change jobs.
At 25 years old, I have had 5 full time jobs, and two course enrollments that I abandoned after 6 months of trying, because I hated them.
I have 3 qualifications, none of which I enjoy, but were earned as part of the jobs I’ve done.
I really don’t want to tell people for much longer that I work in hospitality, or that I’m “between jobs.” It gets tiring.
I enjoy writing. Maybe I could be a writer. A blogger. An author. I love reading and getting lost in people’s minds and imaginations, including my own. I love aircraft, maybe I could join the Airforce. But with a partner already in the defence force, time apart would be significantly increased, and I don’t want that.
I don’t know.
But I really hope that some day soon it will just click.
25 Things I’ve Learned Being 25
No one tells you what it’s like to be 25… so here I am to do it! Taking one for the team. You’re welcome ;) I have been 25 for 6 months. In those 6 months, I have learned some valuable things.
So, i present to you - 25 things I’ve learned about turning 25!
1. For me, the thought of turning 25 was scary. It’s quarter life crisis land. You’re no longer in the 18-24 age demographic, you’re now in the 25-29 bracket. DEAR LORD that in itself is terrifying.
2. People no longer say “Oh, you’re still so young” when they ask your age, and why you’re still working a shitty hospitality job… more on that later.
3. You, like me, may have recently just learnt how to iron. It’s a challenge in itself and one to be avoided for as long as humanly possible. Moral of the story; Push that crinkly shirt to it’s limits.
4. NO ONE TELLS YOU HOW TO LOAD A DISHWASHER. I grew up in a household where a dishwasher wasn’t a thing. So every time I load my dishwasher, it’s a game of tetris, one I never seem to get any better at.
5. You have an entire room in your house dedicated to washing. This is place where good, clean clothes go to die. Because folding washing is the devil. And because you never fold your washing… see #3.
6. 25 is the time people start asking you if you have health insurance. Um, no. I don’t even have health, really. *she said as she ate more pizza*
7. I haven’t been carded in years. YEARS. Gone are the days of youthful bliss when not getting carded was fantastic. Now, I’d give my left kidney to be asked to please present my ID to buy this 10th bottle of wine for the week.
8. Your body makes creaking noises when you get out of bed in the morning. WHEN DID THAT HAPPEN?
9. Bin days are a thing, but! LIFE HACK - just leave your bins out. Look at all this extra time and brain space you’ve saved, not having to remember which day is bin day.
10.Going to the grocery store is no longer a novelty. It’s a hideous chore. One I will push to the limits. It’s fine, canned beans and rice is considered a meal, right?
11. Some of your school pals have kids. SEVERAL OF THEM. Some are married. SOME ARE EVEN DIVORCED. Just let that sink in.
12. If you, like me, are lucky enough to be engaged to a wonderful fiance, then you may be planning a wedding. I never thought I’d be planning a wedding! How delightful! Yet this brings us to #13;
13. You realise how little friends you actually have. So little, in fact, you’re wondering if you’ll even have a bridal party at your wedding?
14. 25 is a time for reflection. A reflection on how many jobs you’ve had, hated/got bored of, and quit… rinse and repeat.
15. You may still not know what you want to do when you “grow up.” Except the grow up part is already here. And time is ticking. And it’s very stressful. And does occasionally make me shed some tears. There there guys, we got this…
16. This bra is fine to wear for a week in a row without washing, really, trust me. I’ve been doing it forever.
17. You’re equally as close to 20 as you are to 30. Just let thank sink in… 26 though, will be tough.
18. You now have reached the point in your life where you are perfectly capable of making all of your own appointments. And you actually enjoy it.
19. Towels are SO FUN TO BUY. As is shopping for kitchenware.
20. You actually look forward to tax time, because you can’t wait to see how much (or how little) you’ll get back from the government, so much so that you’ve already spent it all in your head before getting it.
21. I HAVE GREY HAIRS. I have total of 4 grey hairs that have all sprouted up in the last few weeks. I AM TERRIFIED.
22. I can’t remember the last time I went to the dentist… terrible, I know. Teeth hygiene is PARAMOUNT. Plus, I worked as a dental nurse for 4 years. I SHOULD KNOW BETTER.
23. YOU SHOULD KNOW BETTER, yet you still do the things you shouldn’t and hope that the last dying light of youthfulness shines bright in your eyes
24. You’ve lived through multiple movie remakes… the good, and the oh so terrible.
25. You’re now a fully fledged adult, fumbling your way through life. So many experiences you’ve had, and so many more to come. Wait, THAT WAS 25 YEARS? Hooly dooley. Life is short, but it’s the longest thing we’ll ever do.
That’s it guys, thank you for reading! This blog is my baby, one I will nurture and cherish and hopefully watch grow and bloom. Like a flower! Plenty of tales about what I’m learning on this crazy journey called life, with a good dose of humour, wit and sarcasm. Follow to see more!

Alright. Time to write a novel. I’ve been wanting to write since I was 9 years old. I’ve started many stories throughout my life, some finished, most not. Many remain ideas in my brain.
But I’ve gotta do this. I have to. I want to. It’s time.
The feels today
