For those who haven’t heard much about the shooting

2 different mosques were shot up shortly before 2pm in Christchurch

In one mosque there was said to be around 500 people in the middle of prayer, including children

The shooter LIVESTREAMED the whole thing. He told people to ‘subscribe to pewdiepie’ before walking in and opening fire with his semi-automatic rifle

There are so many dead they can’t even confirm a number yet. It’s said to be over 30. maybe well over 30, including children.

meanwhile there were a number of cars found to be rigged with explosives

schools are all in lockdown. even at 6pm kids are still stuck in schools.

So far 4 people have been arrested as suspects. There may be more conspirators

I would also like to note that while the name of at least one guy arrested has been released, please do NOT share it. Don’t give him the recognition.

The motivation was, of course, racism. The livestreaming-shooter was a white supremacist who posted a lot on 8chan. He even posted his weapons and the gear he would wear, along with a ‘manifesto’.

a lot of the schools have come out of lockdown by now (about 7pm)

the death count is now estimated at about 40-50 people

the hospital nearest to the attacks has overflowed. the injured are being relocated to ICU in other hospitals

NZ’s terror alert level is on high right now. most of us didn’t know we had a terror alert level

49 is the death toll now. Police and PM have warned not to share the video or the manifesto or name him. They’re saying it’s a male in his late 20s now charged with murder. The Australian media are running news items on the alleged shooter and his past/family/home. Please don’t watch them as this is going against our own police’s advice to not name him.

please, if you are able, do what you can for the asiatic lion. donate, get involved, spread information. there are only about 300 left in the world, and they all live in Gir Forest National Park in India.

the african lion is also estimated to be extinct by 2050 due to habitat loss, sport hunting, and loss of their prey base to the bushmeat trade. these beautiful creatures could be extinct in our lifetime. the next generation may not ever have the chance to see these creatures, there will be no more cute lion vines, there will be no more documentaries, there will be no more zoos or sanctuaries containing lions. there will be no more lions.

Yeah, reminder that the WWF still violates the rights of tribal peoples, funds shoot-on-sight policies, has never apologized for its racism in the 90’s and has an approach to conservation that’s based on eugenics. WWF is also in bed with palm oil producers, supposedly for monetary gain. I’d also argue that the WWF misuses its funds, considering its CEO is in the 1% and at one time had a higher salary than the US president, despite being a non-profit.

Better charities would be The Zoological Society London and Wildlife Trust of India
