so, i noticed that in “sinners,” remmick is portrayed as playing a banjo when he performs. that piqued my interest because i know somebody, hannah mayree, who runs something called the “Black banjo reclamation project” which aims to educate people about the banjo’s african origins and history in Black music, accepts donations of banjos to be distributed for free to Black folks who are interested in playing, and offers shows and events oriented toward helping Black people reconnect to their roots through this instrument.
there’s a campout that starts tomorrow, june 4th, and an online study group that starts this weekend, june 6th, and some events and shows this summer that look really fun. there’s also a newsletter for any future events!
looks like i can’t put the link to the website, but it’s just the name of the project dot org
I have always loved a good banjo. It's crazy bc it's from Africa, but it always gets a bad rap as a Southern White Hick stereotype. Which, interestingly enough, is probably why they gave it to Remmick. A sort of sign that even in this, he's trying to use Our Music to get Inside to Us. But anyway, somebody shredding on a banjo is 🤌🏾🔥
I'd actually love to participate in something like that, because I gave up on this guitar 😭 I don't have the memory and focus anymore to teach myself music.
Despite how colorful my usual art gets I am a absolute sucker for grayscale
Also below is a speedpaint

Craig's Room, Before shading.
Working on backgrounds, and with longer canvas sizes, because I'm not very good at both. If anyone has any critique or feedback that'd be grately appreciated.

Quick Steve thing to just get back into the swing of things.
Something about Steven seeking out friendships in mature people (Lars, Sadie, The cool kids, Petey who runs the fry stand most days, Connie, his dad, the Gems, every adult in Beach city) and how it has something to do with his want to be more mature and responsible himself.
Omar and Steven fusion possible designs, maybe Stemar. Or Omen. It’s Omen This is Omen.
i dont get offended at white people jokes even though im white because:
i can recognize white people as a whole have systemically oppressed POC in america, which is where i live
most people when they make white people jokes only mean the shitty white people and i am not a shitty white person
im not a pissbaby
my white friends that have reblogged this give me life
4. Sometimes I am a shitty white person and the jokes remind me to FUCKIN STOP
If ur white and like this post I fux with u
^absolutely
5. It’s hard to be offended when white people jokes involve bland food/tourist dads in socks and sandals/white girls in yoga pants obsessed with pumpkin spice/suburban PTA moms and other harmless and mostly true stereotypes while jokes about POC involve them being called thugs/criminals/slurs/uneducated/illegal immigrants.
i fucks with u heavy if ur white and you reblog this
6. They’re usually really fucking funny and don’t perpetuate stereotypes that will ever affect me economically, politically, or cause me any true harm, let alone create risks that “justify” my murder and/or death
Episode Idea.
Charlie barges into the bar, complaining that theres this guy following him around, taking pictures of him, stealing his stuff.
Dennis scoffs, clearly believing either Charlie is lying or mistaking someone for doing this, claiming theres no way Charlie has a stalker.
Roll opening credits, episode title? "The Night Stalker Cometh"
Charlie does have a stalker, turns out the guy saw The Nightman Cometh opening night and had become obsessed with it. He's the one fan of the Musical, he has both scripts (Charlies original and Artemis' translation), he has the security camera footage, he watches it constantly, he OWNS all the costumes the Gang wore, he tracked down the old lady to steal the music sheets used for all the songs, he has several of the set pieces in his home.
Dee, Mac, and Dennis are all unconvinced Charlie has a stalker.
Dennis claims "If anyone has a stalker from watching THAT it'd be me, I was the main character, I played TWO characters, I had the BEST preformance, everyone else bombed"
Dee is in disbelief "if there was a single, cute guy there, I'd know, he wouldve called me"
At some point Artemis comes into the bar with her younger brother, Who is revealed to be Charlie'd Stalker, and Dee is in even bigger disbelief.
Dee telling Artemis "Why didn't you tell me you had a cute, single, young brother? I mean he's single guy, I'm a single female"
Artemis responds "well back when we were in theatre together he would come and drive me home and well I asked if he'd like to meet you and he said No"
Dee would scoff, leaning against the bar, making a series of disbelief noises "no, no way, theres no way he didnt want to meet me, especially not back then I was HOT the guy has to be gay or something"
Mac hears this and, also convinced the stalker must be gay, decides to start dressing as the Nightman again because of the "sheer sexual power in my preformance captured the guy" and so he tries to subtly seduce the stalker, it starts out slow, wearing the costume, then styling his hair, eventuslly wearing the contacts.
Turns out, Charlie really gets along with the Stalker because the guy is the ONLY person who understood the musical the way Charlie wanted it to be percieved and the guy actualy really understands Charlie.
This makes Frank jealous, and Dennis (convinced he can be a actor) decides to start trying out for Musicals with Frank as his agent. Frank is trying to make Charlie jealous, noticing the way Charlie gets along with the Stalker.
Dee starts pestering Artemis about her family, they devolve into a c plot about Dee trying to hook up with various men Artemis is related to (may or may mot conclude with Dee and Artemis hooking up unsure where this goes)
The episode ends with the Stalker being arrested, police called on him by Frank, and as he's being driven away and Charlie watches the stalker is yelling from the window "ILL COME BACK! ILL FIND YOU!"
end episode.
I might name the Stalker Apollo, or Ares, Maybe.
So so sorry to everyone who requested art, you Will absolutely recieve it. I am tired and have been busy, I'm not trying to excuse my tardiness but explain it and thank you everyone for your patience.
Surely a Steven and Omar fusion will cure me.
