“Eat... me... up?” Nellie was scared to know what he meant by that. The man’s near-suffocating presence sent her mind spinning for a moment, almost pulling her into a trance. There had to be a way to leave without seeming rude.

“I’m so sorry to trespass, sir, I’ll just be leaving... now...” As she spoke, she had began to move towards the door, refusing to turn her back on the stranger, only to find the door locked tight. “Ehehe... I-is there another way out at all...?”

As she entered the whole house seemed to let out a rather large squeaking noise, a small group of bats flying around and past her the moment opened the door to the place. 

Of course, she was not alone in this place at all. This man had been waiting for someone like her, pure of heart and body to stumble into this old place. 

Leaving his bat form behind him, the creature of the night spoke in low deep tones that almost seemed to make the house shake with every spoken word. “Who are you… why do you step into the Harwey Mansion?”

No way. Impossible. That man did not just come from that swarm of bats. Her eyes were playing tricks on her. Obviously she was just distracted by the bats and hadn’t seen him as she entered.

And yet, the voice that spoke seemed not entirely human - not entirely mortal. It made her begin to shake in fear, not knowing who this man was or what he would do.

“Ne- Nellie, sir. Nellie Morrison. I was just curious and... I didn’t know someone lived here anymore. O-or are you exploring too?”

Bullshit. It had to be total nonsense. Just some story everybody told to bring in a few gullible tourists, or to scare their kids into behaving. There were no vampires, no people-snatchers, just an empty mansion with some old rats and maybe a ghost or two. If nobody else was going to disprove this, then Nellie would have to. Besides, it could get her some bravery points for once.

That’s not to say she wasn’t terrified walking up to the mansion, and even more so when the door shut behind her, sounding suspiciously like it has locked itself.
