who made the first move: harvey and mr. bat met when harvey first came to the hotel. i'm sticking with my initial vibe on this one—mr. bat was rather aloof at first as he is with most of the guests, BUT harvey's purpose for being there made him really curious. he tried to keep professional and do his job as instructed, but over time, the proximity grated him down. i think mr. bat caught feelings first, and long nights spent cleaning up blood or sharing space turned into more.
who kissed who first: the first kiss was an affectionate little lick by mr. bat. it shocked BOTH of them. and then they melted.
who started the relationship: yeah, it just happened. neither knows the exact moment they just became constant in each others' lives. the point is, there's this inevitability in their bond, and they wouldn't change a thing.
who remembers things: mr. bat when harvey's stressed. this makes him a very good anchor for the bird.
nicknames for each other: a lot of animal-based nicknames. mr. bat is pretty quiet, so his "nicknames" are the way he looks at harvey or lights up when he enters a room. a lot of their banter is teasing (eg. "bird-brain" affectionately), but one thing they truly appreciate about each other is how they never question what each of them is and just accept each other as they are. with lives like theirs, there needs to be that sense of anchorage and consistency.
who is more likely to pay for dinner: dinner's taken care of most of the time. if they were to go out, harvey would probably pay as a means of apology for being gone so long.
who normally cooks: ((((mr. toad)))) mr. bat has a lot of obscure recipes (moth stew???) that he insists on making. harvey likes finding dishes in his travels and bringing them back to mr. bat. the face mr. bat made the first time he tried a warm meat bun made every second of their distance worth it.
who remembers anniversaries: harvey TRIES HIS BEST to do SOMETHING for their anniversaries, even if he's away. when she was with laura, this was extremely difficult. she often sat in her cage in the apartment, watching the stars and wondering if mr. bat was looking at them too.
what would they get each other for gifts:
harvey ➜ mr bat: FOOD. food food food 1000000% food. food is the remedy for everything with mr. bat. it's a unifier. it makes him feel seen and understood. it helps him when he's cranky or in a bad mood. and harvey's adventurous and well-traveled too, so he has fun just getting it for him. plus he's not the most peckish individual, so he lets mr. bat eat his food a lot.
mr bat ➜ harvey: presence. mr. bat is, for some reason, very good at being in the right place at the right time. when harvey's in trouble or needs someone, mr. bat is always there. he pretends it's a coincidence a lot, but harvey knows better, and it makes him feel solidarity when he's spent a lot of his life having to be independent.
most trivial thing they fight over: leftovers (affectionately). when harvey is actually hungry, particularly after a stressful job, he gets territorial over his food. and mr. bat sees a full plate and immediately wants what's on it.
how often do they fight: they have petty fights semi regularly because a) it's fun and a good destresser and b) it reminds them both how much they care about each other. however, mr. bat is naturally pretty quiet, and they're never that serious. these two always find each other again.
who uses all the hot water: harvey when he's washing the blood off (even though he's more of a cold water guy). though mr. bat LOVES a good spa day. he puts the cucumbers on his eyes and everything. harvey thinks it's adorable.
who calls up the super/landlord when the heat’s not working: mr. bat is surprisingly skilled with that manual stuff. he usually handles it.
who leaves their stuff around: mr. bat leaves crumbs by accident sometimes. harvey can be a little messy when he's stressed. but usually, this isn't an issue. mr. bat almost LIKES looking for harvey's things when he's gone or missing because they indicate he's been around or is still alive and kicking.
who remembers to buy the milk: mr. bat remembers. harvey gets it because he goes out more. nothing pleases mr. bat, however, like seeing that harvey remembered and got it anyway.
who controls the netflix queue: mr. bat is more of the binger. harvey watches whatever he's got on. he's chill like that.
who steals the covers at night: there's no need for covers! though they both have different sleep schedules. mr. bat is more of a creature of the night, while harvey is active during the day. when they DO have the chance to lay together, the compromise makes it feel almost holy.
who cusses more: they're both winged animals. they can be loud.
who does most of the cleaning: harvey cleans up after himself, but mr. bat enjoys helping.
what’s their favorite non-sexual activity: they like enjoying silence together. presence is a BIG part of this relationship. knowing that the other is there is very reassuring for each, especially when they inevitably get separated for stretches because of work and the passage of time :( this makes every moment precious.

who’s the big spoon/little spoon: in anthro form, mr. bat likes curling his head under harvey's beak because he's shorter. in animal form, mr. bat likes to cling to harvey.
who’s more dominant: neither, honestly—or both, but in different ways. for example, mr. bat is pretty good at getting what he wants from harvey. harvey's good at making decisions.
who is the dirty talker: mr. bat sometimes pushes harvey's buttons (whether accidentally or on purpose is up to you).
what do they do when they’re away from each other: both sink themselves into work if they can because they each see purpose in their jobs. however, there are often long stretches where they have nothing to do, especially when they're in their animal forms. this is when the angst starts to set in. when you're immortal and have a mission, it sort of comes with the territory, but each still struggles with this aspect. they see each other as kindred spirits—observers in a world of change—and knowing they have that connection helps keep them sane.
what would they do if the other one was hurt: the hurt party is often, unfortunately, harvey. if something goes wrong, he finds mr. bat as quickly as possible. seeing harvey in pain FREAKS mr. bat out, but he is good at keeping his cool in the moment and then panicking later.
a headcanon: these two LOVE to play tag when they're in their animal forms!!! they'll often sneak out at nights or on their time off and just fly around the lake, racing and enjoying the cool air together. mr. bat can fly a lot faster than bird form!harvey can, but harvey has a bit more endurance. there's nothing like the lake on a clear night, just enjoying the mutual presence and relaxation time 🌙
