have i ever shown u people my hand sofa
my prized possession is this loveseat I bought from a divorced dad who couldn’t tell me anything about it and in the years i’ve owned it i’ve never been able to find out who made it or where it came from. it’s got nails and finger creases and palm lines but they’re all kinda hard to see in this pic.
Accessibility fails at Oakland Zoo have struck again… I was like heck, my body is doing well, I’m going to hike the zoo hills today instead of renting a scooter. I am optimistic!
Five minutes in I caught my toe at an unmarked raised edge at a viewing platform and nearly ate shit face-first on concrete with all my camera gear on my back.
Siiiiiigh. TBD on if knees will cooperate now or I have to shell out $$ for an ECV.
Yeah, that’s $30 more for the day because they don’t appropriately mark trip hazards.
I know a lot of zoo people don’t get why I harp so hard on basic accessibility, but like, I’m tired of getting hurt when visiting through preventable things.
I asked if this was an art installation and a Danish person said "no this is quite a serious impedance"
Perfectly boxed little kitty here to be shipped off right to your doorstep! Now for only $15.43!
so are we just supposed to ignore kendrick lamar having lyrics about killing trans women? “toupee drop and a dude just popped out t of that tank top and bra / and when i say du du du du, bitch that be k-dot” ? he’s talking about shooting and killing a woman when he finds out she’s trans aka trans panic. he’s a vile transphobe, why are you platformong him?
think you've got the wrong lyrics there
Toupée drop and her two tits pop Out of that tank top and bra And when I say "Doo-doo-doo-doo," bitch, that be K. Dot
and notably in context he is. not talking about murdering the woman he's rapping about here? from the genius annotations
A Toupée is an artificial hair piece, for all practical purposes, a wig. Toupée, like touche and en garde, is a french word. Toupee is being used here in the sense of a convertible…like drop the top…when Kendrick is driving and drops the top on his convertible, his girl can’t help but get a little loose and let the girls out. This ["doo-doo-doo-doo"] is Kendrick’s signature ad-lib likely developed from his song “Cartoon & Cereal.” This ad-lib is meant to resemble gunshots. This is something Kendrick came used to due to his upbringing in Compton, a city known notoriously for its high crime rate. K-Dot was Kendrick’s original rap name, and has now become an alter-ego. While Kendrick himself is laid back and calm, K-Dot is the more aggressive Compton side.
but thanks for sending me three separate asks about how kendrick lamar loves killing trans women. nothing about this feels racist at all
also notably kendrick has literally written a song about his trans uncle & the queerphobia he himself has participated in. some people have discoursed over this song, the lyrics, the title etc. but regardless of your thoughts on his approach to allyship, it is very clearly one that is seeking to support trans people and reflect on his own participation in harm.
its just strange to send me three asks berating me for making a post saying "hey people should go listen to this already well-loved album because not enough of y'all on here have heard it" because of one misheard lyric, when the artist in question wrote a song in support of his trans family member. i'm not saying kendrick is a perfect person (or that any artist should be expected to be!) but its just strange!

So hey!!! I've just launched a Kickstarter campaign, and this one is to make a cool slipcase boxset collection for Chirault, my complete high fantasy webcomic :D
I've wanted to have some sort of cool boxset edition for YEARS, like ever since I finished the story....so this yeah, I want to make it happen. And you can help, by sharing the campaign around!
So the campaign has hit its goal already! 🎊🎊🎊 I thought I wouldn't be here so quickly, but I guess its time to think about stretch goals...... so I will have more news soon.
Printing a boxset slipcase for the high fantasy webcomic Chirault!
A conversation I don’t think yall are ready for yet is that you can love a character sooooo much and relate to them and see yourself in them but at the end of the day they’re still fake and that’s why someone else’s take on them or headcanon about them isn’t a direct message about you or insult to your identity. If your identity is so wrapped up in a character that you can’t distinguish between reality and fiction, then you are the problem. Not some random person online who interprets the character differently than you.
this also goes for when you hate a character soooooo much and relate them to every person who hurt you and see everyone you hate in them, at the end of the day they're still fake and someone else's love for them is not a commentary on your trauma
#i also think we should not be using 'i relate to the character' as a claim to authority on the character #just because you relate does not mean your interpretations are law for the rest of us or even correct or 'more accurate' than anyone else's #it just means you relate full stop lmao. According to the CDC, in 10 percent of those drownings, the adult will actually watch the child do it, having no idea it is happening. Drowning does not look like drowning—Dr. Pia, in an article in the Coast Guard’s On Scene magazine, described the Instinctive Drowning Response like this:
“Except in rare circumstances, drowning people are physiologically unable to call out for help. The respiratory system was designed for breathing. Speech is the secondary or overlaid function. Breathing must be fulfilled before speech occurs.
Drowning people’s mouths alternately sink below and reappear above the surface of the water. The mouths of drowning people are not above the surface of the water long enough for them to exhale, inhale, and call out for help. When the drowning people’s mouths are above the surface, they exhale and inhale quickly as their mouths start to sink below the surface of the water.
Drowning people cannot wave for help. Nature instinctively forces them to extend their arms laterally and press down on the water’s surface. Pressing down on the surface of the water permits drowning people to leverage their bodies so they can lift their mouths out of the water to breathe.
Throughout the Instinctive Drowning Response, drowning people cannot voluntarily control their arm movements. Physiologically, drowning people who are struggling on the surface of the water cannot stop drowning and perform voluntary movements such as waving for help, moving toward a rescuer, or reaching out for a piece of rescue equipment.
From beginning to end of the Instinctive Drowning Response people’s bodies remain upright in the water, with no evidence of a supporting kick. Unless rescued by a trained lifeguard, these drowning people can only struggle on the surface of the water from 20 to 60 seconds before submersion occurs.”
This doesn’t mean that a person that is yelling for help and thrashing isn’t in real trouble—they are experiencing aquatic distress. Not always present before the Instinctive Drowning Response, aquatic distress doesn’t last long—but unlike true drowning, these victims can still assist in their own rescue. They can grab lifelines, throw rings, etc.
Look for these other signs of drowning when persons are in the water:
Head low in the water, mouth at water level
Head tilted back with mouth open
Eyes glassy and empty, unable to focus
Eyes closed
Hair over forehead or eyes
Not using legs—vertical
Hyperventilating or gasping
Trying to swim in a particular direction but not making headway
Trying to roll over on the back
Appear to be climbing an invisible ladder
So if a crew member falls overboard and everything looks OK—don’t be too sure. Sometimes the most common indication that someone is drowning is that they don’t look like they’re drowning. They may just look like they are treading water and looking up at the deck. One way to be sure? Ask them, “Are you all right?” If they can answer at all—they probably are. If they return a blank stare, you may have less than 30 seconds to get to them. And parents—children playing in the water make noise. When they get quiet, you get to them and find out why.

BOOST FOR THE SUMMER. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE.
Can I just say thank you to OP for putting such a detailed description on this?
I’ve been a lifeguard for 6 years now and of all the saves I’ve done, maybe two or three had people drowning in the stereotypical thrashing style. And even those, like the save I made last weekend, it was exactly like OP describes where the person’s head is going in and out of the water but it isn’t long enough to get any air. Mostly you recognize drowning by the look on someone’s face. If someone looks wide eyed and terrified or confused, chances are they’re drowning. That look of “oh shit” is pretty easily recognizable. And even if you can’t tell for sure: GO AFTER THEM ANYWAY. I’ve done “saves” where a kid was pretending to drown and I mistook it for real drowning, but that’s preferable to a kid ACTUALLY drowning.
Also please remember that even strong swimmers can drown if they have a medical emergency, get cramps, or get too tired. If your friend knows how to swim but they’re acting funny get them to land. And even if someone can respond when you ask them if they need help, if they say they do need help? GO HELP THEM.
However . If the victim is a stranger, I can’t recommend trying to get them. Lifeguards literally train to escape “attacks,” because people who are drowning can freak the fuck out and grab you and make YOU drown as well. If you do go in after someone, take hold of them from the back and talk to them the whole time. IF YOU ARE GRABBED: duck down into the water as low as you can get. The person is panicking and won’t want to go under water and should release you. Shove up at their hands and push them away from you as you duck under. Don’t die trying to save someone else.
Please guys, read and memorize this post. Not all places have lifeguards. Being able to recognize drowning is such an important skill to have and you can save someone’s life.
Just incase!
In a water park once, I was suddenly grabbed by a child and he dragged me under the water without warning. I was going to get angry with him when I resurfaced because I thought he was being an ass, until I looked at him go back in and out hyperventilating the entire time. I grabbed him under his arms and began trying to drag him out while screaming for the lifeguard.
When the lifeguard got us both out, a woman came running down and accused me of harming him and said he had been completely fine in the water. That there was no reason to drag him out of there. The lifeguard had to explain to her that her son had been drowning, to which her response was to say that she didn’t hear him call for help.
People seriously need to learn the signs.
http://spotthedrowningchild.com/ really demonstrates how easy it is to miss drowning
two spirit is not a "native version" of anything
its not a "native version of nonbinary" or a "native version of bigender"
thats not what it means, that’s not what it’s ever meant
two spirit is an pan-tribal term coined by indigenous people in 1990, for indigenous people, to replace the term berdache, an offensive term that white settlers applied to indigenous people that fell outside of the western lens of gender and sexuality
two spirit isnt a "native version of nonbinary" because two spirit doesnt inherently mean someone is nonbinary. some of us are, but so many two spirited people arent. many people in our community also choose specifically not to label themselves with terms like nonbinary, gay, bisexual, etc, and solely use two spirit or another term from their tribe or language
we can be anything and everything and nothing you've ever imagined
to say its a "native version of nonbinary" is not just inaccurate, it's a complete erasure of a massive part of our community
i think people are starting to forget what the LA in LARP means
