You gotta grab as much joy from this life as you can
I have a story about being ai addicted that I wanted to share after seeing one of your anons talk about struggling with it. I've been writing fic since I was 10 or 11, and am in my twenties now. When Ai chatbots became a thing I lost myself to it. I told myself it was a good way to explore writing ideas and at my worst I was spending 40+ hours a week chatting with them. My mental health worsened, and I hardly wrote anything that wasn't a reply to a bot.
When I realized I wasn't writing as much and I was too dependent, I then pivoted to using googles Ai notebook features, which are mainly designed for students. Except I would run my writing through and make it generate a completely artificial podcast analyzing my work and giving me advice. It got so bad that I refused to let myself share my work unless the AI gave me enough positive feedback. I now spent basically all my free time talking to chatbots, and any time I needed to do chores or housework I would put on the AI podcast in the background. I was addicted, miserable, and unsurprisingly, hardly writing. I felt like I couldn't, even though I really wanted to.
Anyway, what snapped me out of it was discovering that all your AI interactions can legally be obtained by subpoena in court. I don't anticipate being involved in a lawsuit or other legal issue but it illogically scared me so bad that it gave me the push I needed to quit cold turkey.
I'm now one full year AI-free. I do not use it in any way. I do not chat to bots, I do not run it through anything to generate an analysis. I even turned off the built-in grammarly function on my phone because the integrated AI would change my wording beyond simply fixing grammar mistakes. And most importantly, I'm writing. I'm freely sharing fanfiction, not worrying about a bot's opinions on it. I take inspiration from human made art and I'm much happier.
thank you for sharing ā”
i dreamt with THE plot. like legit one of the best fic plots ive ever dreamt (which like is 100% based on a movie but with my blorbos). but i don't have the ability to write it as good as i want. what do i do? do i write it? or do i leave it?
write it anyway. a fic that is not as good as you want is still better than a nonexistent fic.

one of the best decisions Iāve made was leave wattpad for archive of our own
āwhatās the tea?ā wattpad is pro censorship and driven mainly by capitalism, any work that is taboo and work that is just āsmut without plotā is considered against wattpadās rules and it can get removed if someone reports it to wattpad.
wattpad is also literally full of ads. if you want an ad-free wattpad experience, you will have to subscribe to wattpad premium. this wonāt protect your works from censorship, it will just remove ads for you ā so you can read fics without getting interrupted by ads every time you move to the next chapter.
also I guess wattpad premium allows you to download as many works as you want to read offline. whereas if youāre on free plan, you can only download a few works to read offline.
I believe the platform recently updates their rules. nothing changes. you still get ads and censorship. but they just make the rules more strict in regards of smut without any real plot. so basically their new policy just makes things even worse for their own users.
mind you, on ao3, thereās zero censorship. you can post the most filthy porn without plot fic on ao3. you can post the most taboo fic on ao3. ao3 was created specifically to host this exact type of fic. and also. no ads. you can download as many fics as you want to read offline. and everything is free.
as a former wattpad writer, I do not regret leaving wattpad for ao3. itās a whole new world of complete freedom and creativity here. literally made by fans for fans. no ads. no censorship. no capitalism bs. thank you ao3 ā”

Every single day wondering if that one writer that started to post even before I was born and disappeared 2020 will come back š„¹
I can very much relate to this and all jokes aside, I know the reason why I read more fanfics than original novels is because Iām here for the characters I already know, love, and am passionate about. with original novels, I donāt know who these characters are, Iām not passionate enough about getting to know them. which is the same reason why I donāt read fics with ocs either. which is not to say original novels and ocs are bad. but personally, Iām only here for my comfort fictional men being put in Situations
a million times this. āI donāt like these xyz ficsā then donāt read them. THEY ARE NOT FOR YOU!!!!!!! no one forces you to read anything you donāt want to read. no one forces you to consume art you donāt enjoy. itās so easy to click that mute or block button. instead of insulting fanfics or fan art for not fitting your personal liking, either choose something that does fit your personal liking, or write the fic you want to read yourself / draw the art you want to consume yourself.
fanfic writers and fan artists create as THEIR hobbies. they create for themselves and their own enjoyment. they donāt create for strangersā approval
(writes something) god this sucks so bad. this is awful. i'm the worst writer ever. this is nothing. (rereads it a while after writing it) oh dude this is fire. i'm the god of writing. (writes something again) god this sucks so bad. th
thank you ao3 for being an archive and not an algorithm. thank you for letting me like things without consequences, thank you for being free with no ads, thank you for having lawyers to defend our freedom of speech. thank you tag wranglers. thank you to all authors and thank you ao3
any advice to help with my procrastination
I give myself deadlines, and it works. but ā and this is important ā I personally do not recommend this to anybody. not because I want to gatekeep it but because itās not exactly healthy. and I am aware that itās not healthy. because, assuming youāre talking about fanfics, fanfic writing is a hobby. so I still think itās better to just go at our own pace. since weāre doing it for ourselves and our own enjoyment.
but yeah I still do give myself deadlines. and thatās mostly how I got my chapters (or my one-shots) done. is it healthy? not really. do I put unnecessarily pressure on myself? absolutely. but does it work for me? unfortunately yes.
Iād like to say there must be a healthier way for me to do it. but personally I havenāt found anything else that works for me.
saw an ao3 author apologize for taking their fic way too seriously.
