"The question is what do you want?”
"Nothing."
"Hey, Ethan. I am, yeah. Thought I’d come back and figure out what I’m doing with the rest of my life. You’re looking at a college graduate. Whitmore alumni, just like my parents and aunt."
"What was your degree in?"
"I was going to come say hi, but I can leave if you’d prefer?"
"You can stay if you want."
"I thought I recognized you and figured I’d come say hello. It’s been a while…how’ve you been?"
"...Elena? You're-- You're back?"
"Did you want something?"
...
This yours?
You haven’t, but I’m honored.
You should be, it's very rare.
This yours?
I wasn’t worried. Yes.
"One evening, do you remember? We were floating in silence; on the waves, beneath the sky, there was nothing to hear but the distant sound of oarsmen beating in rhythm against your harmonious waves.”
You gotta love romanticism.
"Let us love! Let us enjoy the fugitive hour! Man has no harbour, time has no shores: it runs, and we pass!”
But I think these lines express the main idea, She is gone and He comes to the lake to, I don’t know, find her again but of course, She isn’t there. But the memories are, everything’s the same, the nature which He associates with nights spent there with Her. He realizes people change, life goes on and He even describes time as cruel, which reminds of baroque prose. His life’s changed but the nature hasn’t; it never will. Trees, stars, air, flowers, the lake. At last, he hopes that his memories of Her, and um, them will stay with him.
Ah, I see.
May I ask you something, Amelia?
I’m fine, Ethan. I don’t need to be babied.
It's not babying, Miranda. It's helping and worrying.
Cavo Let It Go
I didn’t get my ass kicked. As you can see, I’m still standing.
Fine, almost got your ass kicked. Here, dammit, let me before you hurt yourself more.
This yours?
I don’t think hating pizza makes you a bad person—in fact, between that and your procrastination, I’d say it makes you human.
Have I ever mentioned you're becoming one of my favorites?
And when have I ever listened to you before, jackass?
The times you didn't get your ass kicked like a noob.
This yours?
I could always take it back and never hug you again.
What’s your choice?
Eh.. Guess I could stick with the hugs.
This yours?
Thank you, Mr. Carter.
It’s okay. I prefer Chinese food, but I’ll do sushi.
You're very welcome.
At least you don't dismiss the option of foods you don't prefer. You're a better person than I am in that regard.
This yours?
I’m sorry, I never know.
Well… What’s on your mind?
Madoc. An epic poem. Similar to MacPherson’s Ossian, right? One of my favorite poems of the Romantic era is The Lake by Alphonse de Lamartine.
If I had it my way, it'd be Ethan constantly.
It's nothing--but thank you for worrying.
Excellent, good job. Do you remember anything from The Lake? A favorite line, the overall theme?
This yours?
I’m delightful.
Any kind of pizza is good pizza. You like sushi? What part of eating raw fish appeals to you?
Eh.
What part of eating baked dough slimed with tomato sauce, topped with bad cheese and cheap toppings appeals to you?
