Lately I've been fixated on the idea of Giatti living together during the time before they start dating

Despite the mutual pining, I don't think it would be awkward between them, because (esp. given how close-knit the team as a whole is) they're already so comfortable with each other that sharing a space comes naturally. It's more of a yearning vibe than an awkward or tense one

Giatti and Erla double date but they feel bad for leaving Ortega and Penny out, so they invite them along as "third wheels" and it turns into just a regular group hangout session

Team Star + athletics is on the brain today so here's some headcanons

Penny and Ortega would find any excuse to sit out of gym class. They have done no sports, do no sports, and will do no sports. Penny probably calls it "sportsball". Ortega is too sleepy, or his legs hurt, or both depending on the day

Mela isn't super active, but she did start working out to build some muscle and stamina after she became a target at school, then kept it up just because she feels better for it. She's too embarrassed to work out in front of others, so she never joined a club or a gym or anything

Eri of course is into wrestling, but the academy never had a wrestling club before she and Carmen created one in the postgame. Pre-Team Star, she settled for joining the judo club, but quit after the bullying started and her clubmates trashed her locker (among other things)

Giacomo has been signed up for various sports by his parents (because "a Man should do this" and such) and went along with it, but usually didn't get along with his teammates due to his control freak tendencies. He was and is neutral on athletics, but he still jogs to stay active

Atticus has done martial arts and gymnastics at various points in his life, separately from school: he tried to join a club at the academy at some point but it went horribly and he never returned. He's the most flexible and can do some The Exorcist shit that scares the others

Occasionally they all get together to do something like pickup basketball for fun, usually in the courtyard in the evening when no other students are around. Penny and Ortega just spectate, Mela gets dragged into it because they need an even number for teams, and Eri thrashes everyone at it because of course she does

What I admit I do like about early Pokemon is how rarely they went for the easy ideas first. They had to create 150 monster designs in one game, and I’m sure it could’ve been so easy to phone it in with some generic RPG-ass monster designs, but it took six generations for them to make a Pokemon based on a tree, seven generations for them to make a wolf. The grass type representation in gen 1 is palms, rafflesia flowers, pitcher plants, and cordyceps fungus

The first games introduced the concept of reanimating fossils, and the first fossils you can resurrect are horseshoe crabs, ammonites, and one (1) pteranodon. It took four generations before you could reanimate a dinosaur, and it took two more generations before you could reanimate a Tyrannosaurus rex

Gen 1 did have some generic RPG-ass monster designs (slime, snake, bat, Big Guy Made Of Rocks) but a lot of it is weird biology, visual puns, and references to Japanese folklore and pop culture. It was so much more important to make a Pokemon referencing the phrase “a duck comes bearing green onions” than a wolf, and I think that’s a load bearing pillar to the series’ ethos towards monster design

My solution to the Pokemon card scalping is that if you prove you've hyperfixated on a Pokemon enough to have either drawn or written fanfic about it more than once you should get any cards of that Pokemon mailed to you for free. This is a foolproof solution and I will not be accepting constructive criticism

That being said, things aren't going as well as I hoped with that lol, so it might still be a little while before I start posting art again
