It really rubs me the wrong way how many b*rakhovsky fanworks feature Nara/a herb bride killed by Artemy as a romantic moment between him and Daniil, mostly due to the fact that he harvests a heart for Daniil to study (but also not always; see Nara quest in p2 which is a religious offering and different in tone). I am usually frustrated with how instrumental the treatment of women is, mostly in fics; Lara taking care of the children for them, Eva's suicide being a reason Daniil needs comfort, often hookups in Stillwater without the presence of its hostess, and all that, but man, that Nara stuff is making me truly upset. Artemy kills her! And her sister is begging you to check on her before that happens, frightened for her, knowing she'll do anything for Artemy, and Daniil is taken aback since he was promised no one would suffer (naively, if I might add); and to turn that moment of a very cruel death (Nara never wished to die for science!) into a romantic fanart/fic between two men truly makes me miserable. Worse, sometimes it's treated as a quirky moment between the two. I wish I could put this into words better, perhaps one day I will, but I just had a reaction to an old fanart and needed to scream into the void (my blog).

Morning in the Burned House

In the burned house I am eating breakfast. You understand: there is no house, there is no breakfast, yet here I am.

The spoon which was melted scrapes against the bowl which was melted also. No one else is around.

Where have they gone to, brother and sister, mother and father? Off along the shore, perhaps. Their clothes are still on the hangers,

their dishes piled beside the sink, which is beside the woodstove with its grate and sooty kettle,

every detail clear, tin cup and rippled mirror. The day is bright and songless,

the lake is blue, the forest watchful. In the east a bank of cloud rises up silently like dark bread.

I can see the swirls in the oilcloth, I can see the flaws in the glass, those flares where the sun hits them.

I can’t see my own arms and legs or know if this is a trap or blessing, finding myself back here, where everything

in this house has long been over, kettle and mirror, spoon and bowl, including my own body,

including the body I had then, including the body I have now as I sit at this morning table, alone and happy,

bare child’s feet on the scorched floorboards (I can almost see) in my burning clothes, the thin green shorts

and grubby yellow T-shirt holding my cindery, non-existent, radiant flesh. Incandescent.

not to sound anti intellectual or whatever but can shows stop basing entire story’s and character arcs on parallels and symbolism. like im sick of the trend of shows putting more effort into paralleling certain characters than actually developing said characters on their own.
