2018-2019 Broadway Shows ⺠Hadestown (dir. Rachel Chavkin)
âIn the end, Hadestownâs vision of hell itself might leave the most powerful imprint of anything in the production. Hell is Times Square and Las Vegas and the Rust Belt all rolled into one â America, concentrated. Itâs rampant capitalism and overcompensation and irresponsible industry and thoughtless technology and the ever-accelerated murder of the Earth. Itâs an awful, awesome vision, and though it feels strange to have the lights of Times Square burning so close by, it also feels exciting.â (by Sara Holdren)

they really fucked up the Hadestown OBCR, didnât they?
The mix is weird and it sounds super low energy. I donât think the album captures the live experience at all.
đ˘they shouldâve just recorded a performanceđ˘
That would have probably been the best solution. In theory though a studio album sounded great, Great Comet translated beautifully to a studio album. But Great Comet was not recorded and mixed during Tony awards season and they had 4-5 months to master it between recording and release. Itâs too bad they rushed this. I was expecting this album to feel like the Definitive Hadestown, and it just doesnât.

Well thatâs the general point of a cast recording. The recording of Six sounds almost nothing like it does live. Itâs simply to produce the music, not necessarily to be the live experience. I also personally feel it was basically exactly like the live show
We disagree on what the point of a cast album is, which is cool. Glad youâre enjoying the album!
if hades doesnt do the "women are a slick as eels" line in chant ii does that mean that patrick wont do the arm wiggling thing anymore :(

I had Hadestown playing in the car yesterday as I drove to the shops with my mum, and after Hey Little Songbird finished she was quiet for a moment and then very pointedly asked "who is that man? What's his name?"
And I was like me too bitch, me too
If youâre wondering why I spend so much time these days picking fights on the internet: I want to lose 10lbs before Labor Day and Iâm operating at a big calorie deficit. It sucks and makes me a grump.
OK I let this slide when he posted it on instagram, but Patrick Page definitely had a mullet after they went out of style.
What would a young Hades and Persephone look like in your minds eye?
well for one, hades had a mullet
I got banned from the Hadestown facebook group AMA
The admins of the group came up with a rule that you canât post how many times youâve seen Hadestown because it makes other members of the group sad. Instead of an actual number, you have to use âseveralâ or âmulitple.â Yeah, the rule is that silly and arbitrary. Apparently seeing the show once is acceptable but any number after that? Youâre an elitist and need to shut up. Anyway, I voiced my opinion âThis rule is stupidâ and one of the admins, Kathryn, responded and was completely un-admin-like. I took the bait and subsequently got banned. Kinda sucks because back in the NT days I met some fandom friends in that group, but the quality of posts and discussion has declined considerably since the show opened on Broadway anyway.
Also, hilariously, thereâs a new admin who messaged me afterwards to tell me he agrees with my opinion on the stupid rule and heâs trying to get the old admins to calm the fuck down.

lmao the rule in the Hadestown facebook group against posting how many times youâve seen Hadestown because it upsets 15 year olds in Ohio
Anyway In The Heights, a musical entirely about latinx immigrants, being turned into a movie that comes out in 2020 when trump is (hopefully) on his way out is so important and a big ass power move
