Where is the line between being medically-minded and having medical paranoia?
This is pretty vulnerable to say but I really want to improve my Greek, which is an absurd statement considering that Greek was my first language. How did I end up with so much distance between myself and my mother tongue?
I hope I find a way to return.
I want to come home.

I’m not sure where I’m going, I’m feeling a little dire.
What next? What now?
I’d really have enjoyed a part-time job at a bookshop or trinket store, but I’ve never heard back from a job application.
I can’t be a student forever but I can’t make a living with my current degree, it’ll take time.
Just got home from my wonderful break between Summer Term and Fall. Ready to put my head back in the books 📚 !
Also coming home to book mail was so amazing! I hadn’t even realized I’d won the Beautiful Ugly ARC giveaway, I am so lucky and cannot wait to read it—and share it with my mother because she almost exclusively reads thrillers and mystery so it’s uncommon to get to share books with her 💕
Summer spent mostly reading.
"Both are bad"
This language equates two concepts. Say someone has an allergy to tree nuts and someone asked if they prefer almonds or walnuts, and they respond with "both are bad". Both nuts are tree nuts and would give this person an allergic reaction. Indeed, both are equally bad.
If I said "take Ted Bundy and Martha Stewart, both are bad", the statement is not incorrect. Both Bundy and Stewart have committed crimes. However we can all agree that the definition of "bad" applied Bundy's crime is more synonymous with "heinous", "monstrous" or "unforgivable" as opposed to the definition of "bad" applied to Stewart's crime which may be closer to "corrupt". Yet in my original statement, I have equated them as "both are bad".
So when we discuss the two-party system in the US, to say both are bad is saying that both parties share in equal faults. This is blatantly untrue, the Republican Party has made a name for itself since the 2016 election as undemocratic, dishonest and unsavory. Whilst the Democratic Party has its faults, it is not equal in its faults to those of the Republican Party. Do not be misled by this language.
Let's keep our heads firmly attached to our shoulders and think before using this language, because language has power.
"Girl found dead"
As if her death wasn't entirely preventable.
As if her death wasn't entirely orchestrated.
The ever-changing view from my window.
I wish I could spend more time at my desk enjoying it, never thought I’d miss the work-from-home/hybrid structure.
Wish me luck on my midterm, I bear the burden of not studying enough 🌙
Despite finding my subject matter convoluted at times and the support from the professor limited (they are a wonderful and intelligent person trapped in a capitalistically-driven university as we all are), I really do love learning. I find myself giddy at times, like a child. It’s a good place to be, a luxury I’ve been fortunate enough to afford.
I may or may not be positively obsessed with the Seattle Aquarium and our friends there.
At the Seattle Aquarium, you can learn more about the local marine life as well as learn about conservation and research efforts. Through local collaboration and education, we can work towards lessening and possibly even reversing the harm we’ve done to our environment.
I miss my friends. I miss having somewhere to go when I feel overwhelmed, even if it’s over something small and silly.
Female friendships are like a diary, I can share my muddled thoughts and feel safe regardless. Where do I go now that my friends are a world away living their own lives full of career ambitions and keys to apartments they share with lovers?
Having been raised in the English educational system then attending a college in the Netherlands, I find percent grades of 80% to be impressive, after all, 100% is elusive, impossible, American. So now that I am in an American institution and 100% is suddenly the expectation, that an A is not even worth a 4.0 anymore, it’s stunning.
Education is a capitalistic endeavor today, I knew that, but to experience it so passionately, to see it so evidently, it’s otherworldly.
I want to learn, and I love learning. How tragic to be prevented from access to more simply because of the economic intention that is placed on our academic career. I am saddened to know that I won’t continue with physics past what is necessary to progress into my field of interest because the grading has such great value. I would like to speak with the stars and the tides. I would like to express the art I see and feel as human in tidy numerical order, but that is not an option for an 80%.
For what it’s worth, I aim to stay close, to speak with those who do speak to the stars and the tides. I shall speak for them when they are too busy consulting with the world to consult with mortals. That is after all, what a science communicator does, bridge the gap from scientist to public and vice versa. A bridge especially important with today’s political climate.
