03.30.20 | happy monday! don’t be fooled by the sunlight streaming through the windows this morning - there are ominous dark clouds rolling in over the horizon. i am armed and ready with a coffee with foamed oat milk, my favorite candle that smells like home, and a rainy day spotify playlist 🕯☕️🎧 let’s achieve our goals today, even if it’s just one thing. you can do one thing that today moves you closer to what you want to accomplish, and any step forward is one that counts.

Yesterday I needed to change rooms to feel motivated and productive again. Loved the colors and how the air smelled.
Wish you all a wonderful Sunday.

Here’s my half of the desk, I’m not showing my flatmate’s half because it is unbridled chaos.
You can always start again. Clean out your social media. Create a new account for your new taste in music. Study or work in a new city. Start socialising with new people. Choose a new signature scent and style and purge the outdated parts of yourself. If you don’t like where you’re at, but you don’t know what to do about it - try starting again.
sometimes you just have to do what it takes to drown out the bad thoughts. whether its music, exercise, netflix, reading. there’s no shame in just blasting away the negativity.

Fighting For Fair Conditions For Medical Students in Germany
During the current COVID-19 pandemic, hospitals and clinics are more dependent on the work of medical students than ever. In Germany, all last-year students spend that last year working in hospitals, and fulfilling very important duties for their functioning. Now, in this situation of crisis, students are more than happy to help where they can - in governmental hotlines, in ambulant clinics, or supporting nurses and doctors directly on the ward. And still, the German government is planning to change licensing regulations for the worse for those students, punishing them instead of supporting them when it’s most needed. State examinations will be delayed, forcing students to study for 2 state examinations at once, while working full-time. Days in quarantine will be taken from their vacation leave (which many use to study for exams as it is), and the option to choose where to spend 5 months as part of their promised elective, preparing them to work in a speciality of their choosing, might be gone as well, together with student mobility, depending on university ruling. All this while not getting any monetary compensation, childcare for medical workers, or the appropriate occupational safety measures needed during this time. Even though so much depends on them. Please sign if you’re a resident of Germany (the text is in German), or share this with any followers who might be interested in the petition. The national medical students representatives have put together a great position paper on the matter. With enough signatures it has to be discussed by law. If we want to get through this, we have to get through this together.
wholesome student life things that we should collectively start romancizing
waking up and being genuinely thrilled to go to class because today is THAT CLASS you love so much you’d like it to never end
coffee breaks with friends, chatting and joking about this particularly hard essay and the prof’s mannerism
coffee breaks on your own, as you absent-mindedly watch the people around you, while thinking about what you’re working on
finding this book you’ve been dying to read for so long, and borrowing it from the library
the feeling of excitement that goes through you whenever you remember The Book is in your backpack
understanding everything during demanding classes and being genuinely interested in the subject
buying a New Special Pen and taking colorful notes that look super pretty
not being able to shut up about your school projects (no your friends dont really care about the intricate details of what you’re working on, they don’t even have the same major as you, but they’re happy to hear you rant with such a burning passion)
actually doing the extra reading and having your curiosity so piqued by what you’re reading that you go on and on and suddenly its 1am and what happened
printing the project you’ve spent so much time and energy on and feeling the paper’s warmth
actually submitting that project without feeling awful about it because you know you did your best and aren’t responsible for what happens next
when you finally finish this Super Hard And Important Essay at like 3am, open the window and feel the cold night air on your burning cheeks and everything is dark and quiet and you can see the moon and you’re at peace with everything for a few minutes
when this professor you admire says you did a great job and/or that you’re talented!!!!
realizing two concepts that seemed so far away from each other and that you discovered in wildly different contexts are actually interlinked, then Realizing™ things and linking concepts/works/articles to each other at the speed of light & being super excited about it
being so deeply immersed in your work that you didn’t realize two hours have passed
finding the Perfect Spot at the library
that Pure Joy moment when you FINALLY understand that super obscure sentence/text
when you feel anxious because you’re not done with your homework & the deadline is super tight & your friend tells you they aren’t done yet either
same but with an even more intense relief feeling when you realize you both haven’t even started yet
when the professor starts a new reasoning and you can predict what the next idea/the final conclusion will be
when the professor mention your favorite novel/author/fictional character in class and you feel like your internal screech of joy could shatter glass
the Academic Salt™ that has you like 👀👀
when the professor tears apart an author or scholar you hate and you’re like YES I WANT BLOOD GIVE ME BLOOD
when you learn that Cool New Fact that makes you reconsider your whole life
leaving the library after a long productive day and feeling like nothing is real but experiencing everything more intensely
leaving the library at night after a long study session and everybody has left already and its just you and the long neon-lit corridors then stepping outside and smelling the crisp night wind
feel free to add your own!!!
when you learned a thing that interessted you and two days later someone completly unrelated to your work will say “hey i wonder how this works?” and you’re so excited to explain it because you KNOW THAT
when you’re anxious af for a class and the professor is actually super friendly and you feel confident enough to ask questions
and suddently thank to this one professor EVERYTHING MAKES SENSE
understanding that One Difficult Point and suddently you feel like you UNDERSTAND THE FABRIC OF THE UNIVERSE
sometimes you can feel like you have too much in your bag but then one friend has a problem and they are pleasently surprised when you have Just The Right Thing
Running half the campus because you’re so excited to see your friend and to eat with them !!!!!!!!
[01.25.19] I always wondered how people in high school seemed to know exactly what to do to get straight A’s even with extra curricular activities. But now I feel like I have a good handle on school, especially since I’m doing so much research on successful habits of college students for my youtube.

If you are beginning your semester of school this upcoming week or sometime soon; I am wishing that you transition smoothly into your academic environment. I hope that you develop comfortable relationships with your professors and instructors. I pray that any financial burdens that have arisen be resolved timely and easily.
reblog so your followers won’t forget to drink water
I just alternate between ‘maybe I’m smarter than I give myself credit for’ and ‘maybe I’m dumber than I realized’
Heres the thing you gotta understand about statistics.
“Increases your chances by 80%” does not mean “there is now an 80% chance”.
If your chances were previously 10%, your chances are now 18%, not 90%.
if your chances were roughly 1%, they’re now just slightly less than 2%.
thats how that works.
Wow I don’t understand math at all
‘if you have a baby after 35, the chance of deformities goes up by 100%’ is a line I hear alot.
It goes up from .5% to 1%
I think my brain just stopped working
100% is just another way of saying twice more likely. So 100% more basically means multiply the number you do have by 2.
Imagine how many woman are scared to have kids because of that statistic
This is why I took stats instead of calc. Because I don’t build engineer bridges in my everyday life but I sure do read studies that affect how I might live my life if I misinterpret them.
I’m terrible at numbers and math but I knew this and I really take it for granted. The average person definitely assumes, quite understandably, that “600% INCREASE!!!” must always mean a whole lot even if it literally only means that one of something is now six of something. Politicians probably take a shitload of advantage of this confusion.
just remember that increased BY and increased TO are very different things.
Oh god I didn’t even think about that whole other layer of confusion. Yeah if you’ve got 100 people and one of them is sick, that’s 1% of them who are sick, so if it “increased BY 100%” then that means now two people are sick. If it’s “increased TO 100%” then all 100 people are sick.
070819 // I went to an appointment with the psychiatrist earlier this morning and he decreased my medication dosage! He even said that he’d consider doing more next appointment so this is good news that I’m recovering :D
Anyway, these are my bullet journal spreads for year 2 semester 1. On the left is a semester 1 overview, in which I’ll write down deadlines, exam dates, presentation days once I receive the course syllabi. On the right is obviously a timetable, although it’s not complete because I’m still waiting for my Spanish conversation time slot. Lowkey hoping that it’s a Friday class though. I don’t wanna over-work and burn out four days straight ;w;)
I wish y’all a groot™ day!
