So instead of working on my Otakon keychains I was struck with the urge to draw soccer Hetalia WHAT IS MY LIFE
It’s been forever since I’ve drawn GerIta, it’s kind of nostalgic;;; Anyway, this is going to go alongside my other Hetalia postcards at the convention.
best kinds of characters either:
is/has been an active suicide risk
doesn’t or cannot consider suicide a real option and so is left with an inarticulable feeling of circling the drain
@librarycards

i just want to make sure we all know that
“I think it’s true that a romantic relationship is a sort of delusion between two people. There’s an agreement to imagine something together, and you create this idea of each other and the relationship and what you mean to each other. And when one person stops imagining all this, basically that’s when the whole thing falls apart.”
— Sheila Heti, in an excerpt from “We Need the Eggs: On Annie Hall, Love, and Delusion”, The Paris Review, 22 April 2022

What helped me write trauma better is remembering that the nervous system learns predictions. If danger used to come after quiet, calm can feel threatening. If kindness used to come with a price, kindness can feel suspicious. So healing is not just “they know they’re safe now.” Healing is the slow, annoying, deeply unfair process of teaching the body that the old prediction is not always the present truth.

Something neuroscience-y that helps with prose: attention is selective. A character will not notice everything in a room. They will notice what matters to their goal, fear, desire, training, wound, or obsession. A jealous character notices hands. a hungry character notices food. A soldier notices exits. A lonely character notices pairs. Description becomes character when attention has a bias.
as someone who is lowkey obsessed with how the odyssey is structured i find this diagram by james redfield very satisfying:
"[A pattern] based on strict alternation. Odysseus faces two kinds of dangers; he may be killed before he gets home, or he may be induced to stop on the way. He faces violence and temptation." (from Redfield's 'The Economic Man')
these are Bakker's diagram's from the meaning of meat and the structure of the odyssey, which do include calypso in the symmetry! the cicones are missing though, and scylla and charybdis have been separated (rightfully so if you ask me).
