ohhhh shit. target is recalling their up & up baby wipes (fragrance free & fresh cucumber scented) because they're contaminated with Burkholderia cepacia complex and Burkholderia gladioli, multiple people are reporting discoloration & infections. i just got a call about it cuz i had purchased those but i've already gone through them 😅 so no refund for me. but im fine. if you have these they're saying you need to immediately stop using them and bring them back to target for a full refund. this bacteria can cause life threatening infections in children/infants and people with compromises immune systems (ESPECIALLY cystic fibrosis!!) and i know lots of other chronically ill people follow me!!!!

i appreciate what you’re saying and i agree with you in general regarding fandom but i think you’re misunderstanding this specific situation. it wasn’t someone saying they don’t like a headcanon or were triggered by a trope/kink and us being like “you can’t critique me!!! how dare you!!!!” it was certain people on twitter saying ALL of us shippers are doing something that they deemed problematic (using the er barbie nickname for mel and wanting her to have a ponytail = bimbo, ditzy, housewife baby machine) and making everyone out to be anti feminist, misogynistic, etc when it was really just their own bias coming by them thinking something even minutely feminine like a blonde haired person with a ponytail is regressive. that’s why people made posts, that’s why people said others aren’t engaging in good faith with our part of the fandom. because it wasn’t a fair critique, it was someone being mean and trying to stir the pot. just wanted to clear that up because some stuff gets lost when discourses shifts between social media platforms

here’s what i keep having to repeat: there are people who DO act like what they’re describing. again, i’ve been in conversations where this is happening, ive seen the posts with my own two eyes, so it’s irresponsible to say that folks are just making stuff up to criticize. i think it’s unfair that it’s being applied to everyone, but i also understand to a degree because of what i was exposed to very shortly after joining the fandom. i can handle a lot when it comes to kink, and God knows my kinks are all derived from a lifetime of psychological and sexual trauma and would probably make you clutch your pearls but i saw things that i had to go to my therapist about and ask “am i an asshole for feeling unsafe around this person or is this a valid reaction to have?”

every once in a while, someone gets stabbed by a needle in a haystack. they go “oh my God, there was a needle in that haystack! guys, don’t put your hands in there! there might be more needles!” does that suck for all the strands of hay? yes, of course it does. but it’s a lot easier to just go “yeah, sorry, sometimes theres needles in here but i promise most of us are pieces of hay” then to go “ugh oh my God i can’t believe people are making a big deal out of NOTHING, there’s literally never been needles in this haystack”. bad analogy? perhaps. but a few years ago i was in the haystack with some biiiiiiiiig fuckin needles. HUGE needles. needles that made us all collectively put our heads in our hands. the needles were there. people had every right to be pissed about the needles and distrust the haystack.

hi!!! i don't know you or op but i saw all the posts and just wanted to jump in with my two cents because i'm annoying 😅 i think what triggered all of this was a few people on twitter painting all langdonmel shippers with the same brush and saying tradwife-ish mel is what we all want from canon when that's not what anyone was saying on tumblr. it seems like a big miscommunication between the two platforms or a purposeful misreading of the situation by people on twitter to stir up some drama since there's not much else to talk about now that the show isn't airing. so i think that's what op meant when they said people weren't sincerely interacting with langdonmel content since there is such a wide variety of depictions of both characters by shippers but people on twitter always cherry-pick a specific trope/kink/whatever term we want to use that some people explore on here. same thing happens with people on twitter constantly saying all of us on tumblr depict abby as this evil woman in fics but if they actually went through all of the fics they'd see there are so many varied explorations of her character. anyway sorry for the long ask!! but i agree with you and op because this is very nuanced and twitter has unfortunately taken things out of context and blown it it out of proportion which is frustrating all around

yes, i get that it’s nuanced and a complex situation. obviously, not everyone is going to be into the the same thing or interpret a character the same way. it’s easy for these things to get blown out of proportion, but i’m not saying “every shipper is like this” bc im one of them, i was only saying that yes, there are people out there doing what others accuse all of us of doing, because they are. i’ve literally seen it with my own eyes and have been engaged in conversations where someone has said something way out of left field, such as “she gets wet when his kids call him daddy”. WHAT !!!!! i can’t even post a funny reaction pic because it’s not funny in the slightest.

obviously, being into something or shipping something doesn’t mean you expect or want it to be canon or that you condone those things irl. i have ships that i hope are NEVER canon because it would be bad writing. people are always gonna generalize about fandoms, but i think there also needs to be a sense of accountability and acknowledgement that a vocal minority are behaving a certain way. i’ve had to do fandom damage control in the past because of the actions of a few bad apples (hashtag plantationgate, if you know you know) and you just have to accept that people might make assumptions based on the behavior they’ve seen. that’s a result of their own experience, not something that necessarily applies to/is because of you.

i think some people mix up “i’m allowed to do this” with “you aren’t allowed to challenge or critique me”. people ARE allowed to critique you. they’re allowed to say your kinks trigger them and make them uncomfortable. they’re allowed to not want to fw based on the things you say about sex, especially in public. at the end of the day, idk why it’s so hard to go “yeah, some people are like that and it’s understandable that it weirds you out but it doesn’t apply to all of us”. instead we’re just pretending none of this happens at all and that anyone who is critical/uncomfortable is falling for a straw man.
