i donāt think anyone fully understands how iconic of a film the princess diaries truly is. everything in that film is iconic. the apartment/firehouse. the scooters as a method of transportation. āget off the grassā in 4 languages. āplease donāt crush my soy nuts.ā the mustang. the weird neighbor who writes poetry. the m&ms on the keyboard and the pizza. āitās a wango?ā lilyās otter backpack. the whole paolo makeover sequence. every foot pop. stop me i could go on forever the princess diaries is so iconic itās on the same level of iconography as star wars (1977)

THE PRO-VAX MASTERPOST
Iāve noticed recently that Iāve been getting into a lot of arguments with anti-vax people offline, so I decided to make this post debunking all of the main anti-vax arguments and why theyāre wrong.Ā
In this post, I will be only using scientific data- no opinions. Enjoy!
1. āVaccines cause autism.ā
This is inaccurate. This āfactā was published in only one paper, which was already retracted. The doctor who lead this research had his medical license revoked, and most scientists who co-wrote the paper also requested that their names be withdrawn.
No new maintained pieces of scientific research have found ANY connection whatsoever between vaccines and autism. Here are a few articles on this matter:
CNN:Ā MMR vaccine does not cause autism, another study confirms
Centre For Disease Control and Prevention: Vaccines Do Not Cause Autism
US National Library of Medicine:Ā Vaccines are not associated with autism: an evidence-based meta-analysis of case-control and cohort studies.
2. āThere hasnāt been enough research.ā
Actually, vaccines are among some of the most profoundly researched and investigated scientific discoveries. Vaccine development takes many years, and there are very strict protocols for new vaccines going on the market. This normally lasts 10-15 years. This process is a bit long to explain in one Tumblr post, so here is a link specifically about vaccine development:
History of Vaccines Org: Vaccine Development, Testing, and Regulation
3. āVaccines contain dangerous chemicals such as mercury and aluminium.ā
What makes a poison, more so than the chemical itself, is the dose. For instance, water can be toxic at a high enough dose. The doses of these normally ātoxicā chemicals in vaccines are fairly negligible. You ingest more aluminium in your regular diet than you would from a regular vaccine. There are versions of vaccines available without thimerosal (most common mercury-containing chemical in vaccines). Additionally, as of 1997, all foods and drugs containing mercury must adhere to strict FDA guidelines.Ā

4. āI want my childās immune system to develop naturally.ā
Unfortunately, not vaccinating your child does not affect only them. People who are immunocompromised due to illness must rely on herd immunity in order to stay safe from contagious diseases. Since their immune systems cannot handle a vaccine, people around them being inoculatedĀ against infectious disease protects them as well. When you donāt vaccinate your child, they might carry diseases that can be dangerous to those who cannot be vaccinated, even if your childsĀ turns out ok.Ā
Also, your immune system developing naturally doesnāt protect you from diseases like polio, measles, smallpox, meningitis, tetanus, and many more. However, vaccines can prevent you from ever having these diseases. Although humans are naturally immune to some diseases, vaccines address the diseases that we are not naturally immune to. This is why we donāt vaccinate against every single disease possible.

5. āVaccines lead to allergies/asthma.ā
There is no epidemiological evidence that supports this claim. Scientists have not found any connection between allergies, asthma, and vaccinations. Several studies have been performed on this theory since the 90s, and no connection between vaccines and allergies/asthma have been established.Ā
Sources on the relationship between vaccines and allergies:
Childrenās Hospital of Philadelphia: Vaccines and Asthma or Allergies
AAP News and Journals:Ā No Epidemiological Evidence for Infant Vaccination to Cause Allergic Disease
US National Library of Medicine:Ā A randomized controlled trial of the effect of pertussis vaccines on atopic disease.
6. āVaccines arenāt necessary.ā
Vaccines are considered by many doctors to be one of the greatest scientific discoveries of all time. In the 1960s, millions of people around the world died of smallpox. Today, the disease has been completely eradicated thanks to intensive worldwide vaccination efforts. The World Health Organisation estimates that vaccination has prevented over 20 million measles deaths between 2010-2016. Before the polio vaccine was introduced, millions of children worldwide were bound to leg braces, wheelchairs, and ventilators for life if they survived their encounters with polio.Ā
Chances are you, the person reading this, have never contracted polio, measles, meningitis, or any other disease preventable by vaccine. And most definitely not smallpox. Chances are that this is because you have been vaccinated (or those around you, remember herd immunity), and thus you will never have to worry about contracting these otherwise fatal illnesses.Ā

Centers For Disease Control and Prevention: Why Are Childhood Vaccines So Important?
7. āVaccines make people sicker/have harmful side effects.ā
Iāll say this once and only once: a doctor will never recommend a vaccine if they believe in their most honest medical opinion that it would bring more harm than benefit. Serious adverse reactions to vaccines are incredibly rare, and so few people die per year from vaccinations that the World Health Organisation cannot even run a proper statistical analysis on it. From the WHO themselves: āAs for vaccines causing death, again so few deaths can plausibly be attributed to vaccines that it is hard to assess the risk statistically.āĀ
A great majority of the adverse reactions to vaccines are minor and temporary, such as muscle soreness and slight fever. These side effects are incredibly mild in comparison to the diseases that these vaccines prevent. Serious side effects as a result of vaccines occur in less than 1 in a million vaccinations and are often fully reversible if treated promptly by a doctor or nurse.Ā
Vaccines.gov: Vaccine Side Effects
NHS: Vaccine side effects
Take home messages:
Vaccines save lives. They do not cause autism, allergies, or asthma. The chemicals in them are present in safe doses. Vaccines protect you against illnesses that you do not naturally have immunity against and have side effects that are very often mild and fully reversible.Ā
VACCINATE AND GET VACCINATED!Ā
At Target this lady told her son he couldnāt have a Wonder Woman doll because āthatās for girlsā and then bought her daughter the same one. It got me thinking about how often I see people bar young boys from appreciating girls/women as protagonists and heroes, and my own experience with it as a kid.

hope this isnt too nsfw for you guys but id really like to hold a hand
There was a little girl in church, about 5, and her parents obviously let her get dressed herself that day because she came waddling in with the puffiest coat on in the summer in North Carolina. She comes and sits in the pew in front of us. 15 minutes into mass she turns around and hands my husand an orange. Her parents are mortified.
āSavannah not again!ā They scold! (Again kills me)
They appologize and she turns back around. A few moments later she goes to hand me an orange but her parents grab it from her before she can.
Savannah is determined. She reaches her tiny fists into her puffy coat and pulls out two more ornages. She begins to distribute them. Her parents are now beat red and in shock. There is no stopping small Savannah now.
This small child proceeds to laugh a laugh I can only call maniacal (in a Catholic church) unzip the inner line of her coat and releases what had to have been 20-30 of those little kid oranges into the pews.
WE EAT Savannah yells cackeling
The priest can no longer contain his glee
The entire church is dying with laughter
She felt like Jesus on the moutian with the baskets of fish that day Iām sure.
Children are amazing.
little happy things:
seeing someone who is equally as excited to see you
when youāre somewhere beautiful, away from things that stress you out
actually completing your homework quickly without procrastinating too much, and then sleeping on time
when your friend shares a generous amount of food with you
reading something that perfectly describes what youāveĀ struggled to put into words

discovering a new favourite tv show, song or person that makes you excited again
making food or art and then feeling proud of your creations
realizing that you donāt care anymore about something that made you sad or anxious before
