Hello there!

Hey Folks! Here's an introduction about myself and this blog, how it started and what it's all about.💖✨

I'm Phoebe, (she/they) and I'm a freelance illustrator! This blog originally started as my final project for uni in 2021, as an Instagram page where I created illustrated, infographic posts on sex ed topics that are often missed or considered taboo in school sex education. I started the project in response to my personal reflection and discussions with friends about our disappointment with our own school sex education experience. It's such and important topic and whilst the teachings have slowly begun to improve, there's still a long way to go. Plus, I believe in the power of art as a learning tool babyyy! and I wanna use my powers for good.

Since graduating, I have continued to research and work on the @everybodys_invited Instagram account, in my spare time as a sort of personal passion project. To broaden the page's reach, (and to avoid Instagram's censorship of RSHE materials) I decided to create a Tumblr, because I though it might be slightly better! 🤞

So for now the posts will be a mix of re-uploads from Instagram and some more recently made posts, just until I clear my backlog. I might upload them in a different order to my Instagram too, as some posts are seasonal! (e.g. Pride month, National kink day, Bi awareness week etc)

My hope is, by using Tumblr, I can make my posts more accessible than on Instagram, with ID, and including links to any sources and useful resources I use or think are cool.

I believe everyone deserves a helpful, inclusive and positive sex education and I hope this blog will help cultivate a more insightful RSHE community! I want to keep this blog going as long as I can as I find the subject matter fascinating and fun to learn about, as well as a great outlet for my creative practice.

Finally, I'm still learning as I go, so if there are any topics you want me to cover or if there are ways you think I can improve your learning experience on this blog, please let me know, I am open to ideas!

LGBTQ+ History Month - Alfred Kinsey!

The second instalment of the LGBTQ+ Historic figures for this month is Alfred Kinsey! Sometimes referred to as the father of sexual liberation, his studies, whilst shocking at the time helped launch sexology as an in-depth field of study and helped us gain a better understanding of sex and sexuality in humans! How cool is that?!

Whilst the term 'bisexual' as we know it today wasn't popularised until after Kinsey's death, his biographies and testimonies from his wife and peers confirm the Kinsey had sexual relationships with men and women.

The Kinsey scale helped demonstrate how sexuality is a spectrum and not a strict black and white structure. The scale (which ranged from 0-6) was later adjusted with the addition of 'X' to represent no sexual reactions. Obviously each persons' sexuality is nuanced and unique, and doesn't necessarily need to be condensed into a graph, but Kinsey's initial studies helped break though previously very rigid, heteronormative and conservative beliefs around sex, which is amazing!

Finishing off this month with the super cool Stormé DeLarverie! A drag performer, bouncer, singer, show-jumper and Stonewall veteran, she did it all!!

A pioneer and protector, DeLarverie was at the forefront of the gay rights movement, pushing gender roles and dress, she was an icon in butch culture!

Trans History! - Alan L. Hart

It's Trans Awareness Month and Trans Awareness Week! ✨🎉

So to celebrate, let's look at some historical trans and gender-non-conforming people! Starting with Alan L. Hart, a trans man, medical pioneer and writer.

Whilst words like 'transgender' and 'non-binary' etc, have only been in the public lexicon in recent decades, the experiences and identities they represent have always existed and it's so important (and interesting!) that we look at these historic figures as proof that queer, has always been here. I have a couple more people for these posts lined up, but if you have any other historic figures you'd like me to research and illustrate, please sound off in the comments!

All you need to know about cervical screenings!

All you need to know about your cervical screening or 'smear test' appointment. If you're like me and have recently turned 25, you may have received a letter saying it's time for your first cervical screening! But what is it for? Who needs it and what actually happens during the exam?

💗 This exam is for anyone with a cervix, this includes trans, non-binary, intersex and other GNC folks! Please note that if you are GNC and your medical records have changed, please double check with your GP that your medical records state you are applicable for this exam as sometimes you can be missed and you wont get notified for your next screening, you will need to arrange it yourself.

💗 Hopefully this little guide will answer some questions and give you some tips for how you can best prepare to make this exam less daunting. If you have any further questions about your cervical screening, please speak to your GP or sexual health clinic! 😊

It's Cervical Health Awareness Month so I'm reblogging this old post I made on cervical screenings. It is really important to get your screening sorted once you hit 25 (you might even get a letter from your local hospital to arrange one). The screening is a short exam to check for cervical cancer and you only need one every few years!

I know there can be a lot of anxiety surrounding this medical exam but there are lots of things you can do to prepare and make yourself more comfortable - like bringing a supportive friend or asking questions to your nurse. I also recommend treating yourself after your exam - you deserve it! 🥳🥳🥳

So please, please consider booking your screening soon if you haven't had one. And if you are GNC and have a cervix, consider double-checking your medical records to make sure your healthcare providers are aware you need screenings!

What is Asexuality?

An intro to asexuality! A quick intro to what the term means and some pop culture sources for if you want to explore more! Plus a short interview with my friend Heather, (she/her) on her experience and advice as an asexual person. Thank you Heather! 💖

It's important to remember that like any other sexual orientation, it's a spectrum and each person's experience is unique and one account doe not represent all accounts. As mentioned, asexuality is an umbrella term and some people may use it as just one of many descriptors for their sexuality! If you're unsure you can politely ask someone, but they do not owe you an explanation or a deep-dive into their sexuality. An Intro to kink - National Kink Day 💗

October 6th is National Kink Day (whoops!) so here's a post I made a few years ago with a little intro into what kink is and means, and a few tips for those looking to explore a little!

Obviously, there's no definitive list of what does and doesn't constitute as a kink, because like any other part of a person's sexuality and pleasure, it is unique to the individual. But I still wanted to break down some common kinks just to help explain the variety!

Breast Cancer Awareness Month

October is breast cancer awareness month so here's a guide on what signs to look for when checking your breasts.

It is very common for breasts to be different sizes or change in size due to hormones, weight-loss/gain or pregnancy etc. Some of the signs of breast cancer rely on noticing changes in your breasts, so it's important to know what your normal is. If you are ever in doubt, be sure to check it out and see a medical professional.

September is Sexual Health Awareness month!!! SO here's a little safe sex guide for queer folks and anyone who is having sex where there is no chance of pregnancy. Because even though one outcome is eliminated, you still need to protect yourself from STI transmission and look after your sexual health 💗

Contraception cheat sheet 💞💊🩹

There's a lot to consider when looking at contraception options and it can be a bit overwhelming making such a big decision. So here's a handy little guide that gives you the rundown on each method for you to compare and decide what you and your partner(s) are looking for.

Things to consider:

Are you trying to prevent a pregnancy and STI transmition or just STI transmition?

What routine works for your sex life? Do you want a long term solution or an event based solution? Can you keep up with a strict medication routine - for contraceptive pills or PrEP.

Do you have any health conditions that could affect your choices? Do you have a latex allergy or other conditions that could be impacted by the contraceptive you use - Please speak to your GP about this if you are unsure!

Side effects - consider the potential side effect some contraceptives cause (particularly hormonal contraceptives), are you prepared to deal with these?

What kind of sex are you having? Do you have multiple partners and/or are you at a greater risk for contracting HIV, or Monkey pox etc?

And finally, consider your emergency contraceptive options! These are not listed here but please see my other posts for more information of emergency contraceptives and STI testing kits.

Contraception is a shared responsibility so it's important to discuss your options with your partner(s) before you have sex to figure out what works for you, so you can have great, safe sex!

Dental dams!

Dental dams are a great barrier method to use during sex as they protect you from STIs! But dental dams can be harder to find and sometimes more expensive than other barrier methods of contraception and STI protection like condoms, so here's how you can turn a regular condom into a dental dam!

Step 1 - get a condom and fully unravel it

Step 2 - carefully cut the tip of the condom off with clean scissors so you are left with a cylinder/tube shape

Step 3 - cut one side of the tube to form a sheet, aka a dental dam!

Using condoms like this also means you have slightly more choice in materials, flavours, and vegan products so you and your partner(s) can have safe sex with a barrier method that meets all your needs!

The emergency contraceptive or 'morning after' pill 💜

The morning after pill! This infographic answers the questions what actually is it? Why might someone need it? Who can take it? And where can I get it?

The emergency contraceptive pill or morning after pill is a form of emergency contraceptive that you can take after having unprotected sex to prevent a pregnancy from occurring.

HOWEVER! It's very important to note:

This pill is NOT and abortion pill and will not terminate an existing pregnancy.

This contraceptive is not intended for frequent use or as a primary for of contraception, it is only for emergencies! Due to the high level of hormones which can have severe side effects if taken frequently.

There are 2 types available in the UK but please check which ones you are eligible for with your GP!

Family Constellations! ✨

Families! They come in all different shapes and sizes- there are so many configurations and that's great!

This was a piece I collaborated on with Split Banana back in 2022 - they're an organisation that provides RSHE workshops and training (which I have also done with them!) and they're fantastic! Please check them out if you're interested in getting into teaching inclusive RSHE as they have some excellent learning and teaching materials.

how do I find my bra size? i've done the measuring but I think im too big?? my chest isnt that big I would say im a d-e cup only off of looks but I used some bra size calculaters and they said I'd be an o size, when I lool at guides on how to find it when they actually get to the cup size part the numbers I got arent included, when I subtract my band size from my bust I get 15(im a transboy)

It's like the wild west out there with clothing sizes, whilst there's plenty of info online and a variety of shops, you might be one size in one brand and a different size in a different shop 🙃 I think the best way to find out is shopping and trying on clothes in person! I'd recommend going to stores in person, maybe with a trusted friend or family member if it's easier and trying out different sizes and styles of bras to find what works for you.

Some stores offer bra fittings with a store clerk and if you search online you can find which brands or local stores to you offer trans friendly fittings and check if you need to call or book online or if the store offers walk-ins. I think Bravissimo offers trans, non-binary, neurodivergent and disabled friendly fitting services? Hope this helps!

how old should u be to bind?

Hey! There's no minimum age for wearing a binder, as long as you practice safe binding techniques such as not binding whilst you sleep or for more than 8 hours at a time ( you can check out my previous post on binder safety for more tips!) you can bind.

If you are a child or teenager, your body is still growing so you may need to update your binder size frequently, as you shouldn't wear a binder that is too small for you. Places like Spectrum Outfitters have helpful guides on how to measure yourself correctly! Or consider other options like Trans Tape which is designed for binding and is more adjustable to your body shape.
