You still don’t split the pole cause it’s bad luck ?
Ok but honestly lmao
“Every month in prison they had something called Inmate Council, where you get to meet with the prison administration and make suggestions. I volunteered to be the representative for my housing unit. And toward the end of the meeting, the warden asked if anyone had questions or concerns. The NBA finals were going on at the time. So I raised my hand and asked: ‘If the Cavs force a game seven, can we keep the TV on past lock up time?’ And she agreed. She agreed in front of everyone. So when game seven came around, all of us were excited. We gathered around the TV in the dayroom to watch the game. But right as the second quarter was starting, the television clicked off. The CO came down and tried to kick everybody out. I told her the warden gave us permission, but she said it didn’t matter. And that’s when things began to go downhill. We refused to leave. The CO went behind a protected gate and pulled the silent alarm. We grabbed all the tables and chairs and stacked them up against the door. We covered the floor in shampoo and water. The security team came back with riot gear and huge cans of pepper spray, but we kept the door closed for over two hours. When they finally got inside, they were slipping all over the place. We just laid down on the floor and put our hands behind our back. I was given thirty days in solitary confinement. But I had to do the right thing. Women are allowed to vote because some woman wanted to vote. The Civil Rights Movement started because Rosa Parks didn’t want to get out of her seat. And next time there’s a game seven of the NBA Finals, I bet they’re going to leave the TV on in Building Six at Rikers Island.”

Question for all of the Kanye fans or former Kanye fans:
With the recent antics Kanye’s been on for the last couple of years, specifically his political views, does it make it hard for you to listen to and/or celebrate his previous work as milestone anniversaries are coming up?
For example, today marks the 10th anniversary of the album that directly or indirectly influenced your favorite artists and changed the sound of a lot of music that we know of today in 808s & Heartbreak.
I was a huge Kanye fan, I loved everything from his earliest work to TLOP. I went to the Saint Pablo concert and at the time it was literally the best night of my life.
But his comments on slavery were so fucking stupid that I both stopped listening to his new stuff and deleted a lot of old stuff from my music library. Might seem extreme but his comments were so jarring to me even as a white guy that I couldn’t appreciate his old music the same. It’s like the message was lost.
The music is just not as a enjoyable anymore to me personally. He was my favorite rapper since 2008, now that I view him so differently and am no longer drinking the KoolAid his music went from great to good. So it’s a lot harder to appreciate his work.
That being said (and this is of course some bullshit on my end)I have little to no problem enjoying 808’s at all. The music is just so different and songs don’t have the same message as Jesus Walks or Gorgeous or New God Flow that his comments didn’t harm that album the same. I’m thankful for that because I remember how much shit he got for that album but it’s a classic and I love almost every song on it.
Kanye’s music got me through some shit but I couldn’t ignore his buffoonery. His words were awful, had the rhetoric was harmful to black people, and completely stripped his greatest songs of meaning to me.
Sorry for the rant lol, it just highlights how much I loved him and how disappointing his behavior has been. He doesn’t owe me shit but being the person I am it wouldn’t sit well with me to pretend he didn’t say those things and act like it didn’t affect his music.
Former Kanye fan
I listen to all his music up until TLOP. I don’t listen to any current music at all, nor will I.
I listen to his old music because it was a part of my life. I can tie Kanye west songs to specific experiences and feelings from various moments in my life and I can’t disregard that because he got hooked on drugs and started saying dumb shit.
I’ve been listening to Kanye since Through The Wire. I don’t agree with all the shit he been saying. But I’m not gonna stop listening to his music. I’ll prolly never purchase his music again or a concert ticket. But I love music too much to just phase him out completely. If he drops a new album tomorrow I’m gonna give it a listen at least to see if I like it. College Dropout. Late Reg. Etc will forever be played
