I think this TikTok ban is going to be the thing to radicalize me bc wdym the US’s top priority for the last five years has been banning a foreign social media app that doesn’t steal any more of your data than Meta, but not gun control or women’s rights to their bodies or the economy crisis or global warming or homelessness or world hunger or literally any fucking thing that actually matters?

For those who are wondering, she says in the TikTok as I'm in Canada and can still access the app:

Absolutely out of my mind delighted by how many Mandarin teachers on Little Red Book (RedNote?) are putting out videos and doing livestreams teaching non-Mandarin-speaking ex-TikTokers how to speak the language 🥹 I've made more progress in language learning today than I had in four months of language apps 😂

it’s not the fact we don’t have the entertainment anymore on tiktok it’s the fact that we DONT have a unfiltered platform to talk about what’s happening in the world. Maybe this only goes for people in the USA but we don’t have a MAJOR PLATFORM THAT IS NOT CONNECTED TO THE US GOVERNMENT TO COMMUNICATE ON.

Anyone else feeling particularly radicalized by the TikTok ban?

I’ve been on edge all day. Scrolling through the app seeing all my favorite creators say goodbye. Crying at the thought of their small businesses failing. It’s been heartbreaking to see.

Unanimous. The Supreme Court voted unanimously to ban this app. Before gun control. Before healthcare reform. Before anything. The whole government is more worried about a fucking app.

It’s because they don’t want us communicating. If you keep the ants separated it takes a lot longer for things to happen amongst them. All I’ll say is this.. let this radicalize you, we need your rage.
