Cebu City 2010

It was my first time travelling without my parents, I only have my two teachers and a schoolmate. We had a seminar at that time but we also had time exploring the place. We went to their majestic church, there are guitars and candles that were being sold by the locals outside. We also passed by Magellan’s Cross. I didn’t really had the chance to actually enjoy myself because I was a shy little girl back then. I want to go back here with my family so I could do fun and crazy things with my them.

Gumasa, Glan

Gumasa is the nearest white sand beach here in GenSan. We always go there during summer time. The most interesting part here is whenever there is a festival. The blinding lights and the deafening music could bring out your inner party animal. I always find it fun swimming early in the morning where I could see the candy colored skies while I float away. The scorching sun could really make a perfect tan out of everyone. It’s still the best place to go to. Affordable, near, and could really satisfy anyone’s thirst.

Ilo-ilo City

Sunsets, oysters, picnics, those are the things that make me remember Ilo-ilo again. My experiences in this place are worth writing for. 

It was our first time riding a ferry, we made friends with other kids and sometimes, my mother would accompany us at the deck of the ferry. In there, the wind could literally blow you away. I could remember how I hated watching the sunset because I always wanted to go to the mall and I wish I should’ve appreciated it. At times, we would eat oysters by the bay, we would do picnics at the park, and the thing that I love the most, buying groceries!

T’boli

For our documentary, we went at T’boli. I was not disappointed at what I saw and in fact, everything was just like a gem to my eyes. From their rich culture to their stunning landscapes, I knew then that this place is perfect for our film.

We went inside their kubo, admiring every piece that was hanging all over the place. The satisfying sounds of their agongs and kulintang was accompanied by the dancing locals, it was a pleasant sight to see. I also witnessed how they make their fabrics and how intricate the details were. 

Their famous Bakngeb Cave welcomed us with its stinging waters. The current of the river could really drag you down to a different dimension. All of these were all worthy to be featured in our documentary, it could really captivate anyone.

Boracay 2007

The nostalgic air reminded me of the pristine waters of Philippines’ most famous beach, the Boracay. 10 years had passed but I could still remember how happy I was the first time we arrived in there. I didn’t even realize that the place we went to were known all over the country. I just enjoyed myself and savoured the sights that was there to be admired. 

After 2 bus rides from Ilo-ilo, we rode in a boat to Boracay. In the picture, we were inside the boat but after that, we actually went out and sat at the top of the boat, letting the winds splash through our faces. How I wish I could go back here and make the most of it again.

Iligan City

The night and the day were fighting for the sky when we started travelling. The 18-hr ride drained all my energy so as soon as we settled down at our destination, I took the sleep my body needed. We spent our holy week there, we joined the procession and visited churches. Kalesas could also be seen everywhere, it was the common service of the locals. We also passed by the Nature’s Park and the Macaraeg-Macapagal Ancestral House but didn’t have the chance to enter because they were closed for the holy week. 

Timoga Spring Pool saved us from our misery because thank the gods, it was open! The cold waters from this pool came from different springs which also came from the majestic Lanao Lake. I swear, this pool could satisfy the relaxation anyone ever wanted. The two-storey resort had pools in each floor. They are also some along the stairs. The temperatures of each also differ from one another. Waterfalls, spring pools, horses, and a lot more sights to see. I wish I could go back and see what’s more in Iligan.

An Adventure at the Land of the Dreamweavers

Hungry for another experience? Ignite your inner wanderlust by hiking to the ‘Summer Capital of the Southern Philippines’. Other than its rich culture, Lake Sebu is also famous for its spectacular sceneries and cool temperature. It might be hidden behind the thick rainforests, but this place is confident in flaunting its 7 waterfalls and its legendary lake. Time seems to stand quite still in this paradise but no one is too ready for the thrill it could give to quench the thirst of every traveler.

The waterfall will never fail anyone who will see it for the first time. Although I had a hard time finding for the exact word to describe this perfect creation, it did not disappoint me, either. The moment I ran my fingers through the stinging stream of waters, I felt like I was one with the nature. The soft sound of the gushing waters and the birds filled the place, masking the tiredness I felt from the long ride.

The melodramatic atmosphere was kicked off by the adrenaline rush that flowed through my veins as the zipline started moving. It felt like the gods had stolen my insides when I floated through the air with my sister and cousin. Their zipline is one of the highest in the country! Up above, I saw the other waterfalls and witnessed how the world appeared smaller. That was the perfect sight that I badly wanted to see before I would die. Another item checked off my bucket list!

There are a lot more exciting activities inside the magical Lake Sebu. One of those includes intense climbing to view all the waterfalls. The majestic seven are Hikong Alo, Hikong Bente, Hikong B’Lebel, Hikong Ukol, Hikong Tonok, Hikong K’Fo-I, and Hikong Lowig. The first two can be easily spotted while the others require trekking to be seen.

Lebak-packing: A paradise behind the mountains

Lebak is a province in the northernmost part of Sultan Kudarat and it’s not the part of the Philippines where most people consider to be their next travel destination. From mini waterfalls scattered everywhere to monkeys roaming in the middle of the road, I think it’s time to include this place in your bucket list because there are finer things to see here than steep mountains and rolling slopes.

My adventure in Lebak began as I jumped inside the car and watched the gloomy skies change its color to reveal the earthly tones of my surroundings. The window was rolled down, letting the harsh wind bite and stream through my face. I could smell the scent of the sodden soil like a perfect perfume creeping into my nose. The road to Lebak was no joke. It felt like riding in a roller coaster except that it would last for six hours. The colossal ranges met my eyes and I saw the springs of water flowing through the different parts of the mountain. I never thought that it was possible to have lots of those along the way. Also, who would’ve thought that monkeys could wander all over the place just like how stray dogs do it in my city? These incredible scenes had my insides alive and made me crave for more.

It was my uncle’s wedding and we spent our night at the beach. After we arrived, I grabbed the camera and started taking photos. I was so excited to take a selfie when I remembered that my eyebrows was shaved earlier for the wedding. I’ve never touched my noble eyebrows before until the make-up artist decided to shovel them up like a poo inside the house. I went nuts over my tortured eyebrows for a minute but I got over it and continued capturing the fascinating view that was much better than my abused existence.

A swarm of jellyfish joined us in our leisure but I never had the guts to swim with the little stingers. I could not take my eyes off the enchanting sea. It seemed like it was hiding a lot of secrets and would likely pull you to its darkest side. The sky’s hue started to darken as the sun slowly went back to the horizon. The sea did not stop showing off, its royal waters continued to steal the scene.

The seascape was so much better in the morning with birds soaring in the calm skies. I could see how the clear waters rushed through the rocks and how good it felt hearing the silent atmosphere. The place was full of peacefulness inside that it could minimize the hostility in the surroundings.

Lesson learned: Maging matipid sa ibang bagay pati sa kilay.

How to be thrifty po and still enjoy the trip?

I’m still studying and I’m dependent to my parents when it comes to money. So my advice to you as a student is to know first the things that cause you to spend money and find alternative ways to still have them in a reasonable price or maybe for free! For example, if you want to buy a pasalubong, find a less expensive souvenir. You can even collect seashells or other valuable keepsakes for them. You don’t need money to have a memorable trip, just carpe diem!
