Every freelancer that is just starting out asks this question, “Just what should I charge my client?” Well a lot plays into how you should charge. Pilfering through freelanceswitch.com I found an amazing little hourly rate calculator that tells you just how much you should (most likely) charge!

I was casually chatting with my fellow designer and friend Aleks Samoylov (founder of OxygenLabs) when I had shown him a design I had found on reddit with the title, "How the illustrator Mr Bingo deals with the question "Do you work for free?."

Let me start by saying that the DoubleSight DS-90u is a a great piece of technology. It can be either vertical or horizontal and runs on only one USB port for both power and video.

Update 01: As an Art Major...
What we major in isn't what we will use when we get out of college. Not completely. It's a stepping stone for much of the other things we are driven to learn. Whether by choice or out of need, we will always find something that compliments our desired major. Either by becoming a teacher, learning web design, or majoring in another subject that would compliment our art major, like business(for people who want to own their own company), accounting(working for a design firm but being able to know your way around the work place), or other such majors as illustration and interior design.
The learning aspect will never end, but we must always be willing to keep learning or we risk dropping ourselves into stagnation. That never ends well. Art as we know it is all about the "fad" that is currently occurring, so once you are stagnant you then lose touch with what people want to see and are willing to spend money on.
We must always be willing to keep learning and reinventing ourselves through everything that we pursue.
hmm.. I should edit this and make it better...

Update 00.5 - My MacBook Pro i7, 17"
As a new Apple user, I find it hard not to compare my old Window experiences. There are a few things I wish OsX had that I grew accustomed to in Windows.
Cut & Paste Files.
Asking for permission to update files in a folder before being replaced.
Optical Drive eats my discs and refuses to spit them out (not on the Windows partition though)
Other than that, so far my experience has been good. And it isn't as if I don't have Windows to go back to when I want to play my Steam games.
Lately though I've been finding that my Mac is just not strong enough to handle the abuse I give it. Currently I have firefox open with 10 memory hogging tabs, Dreamweaver with 5 open files, Billings, Suitcase Fusion 2, Skype, Adium, and iTunes. This doesn't count the other apps I have open at boot. Time Out, DropBox, Caffeine, smcFan, gfxCardStatus, Alfred, and the largest memory hog of them all, BumpTop.
Because of all this I'm finding that the stock 4GB of memory just has a hard time in Snow Leopard. In Windows 7 though it runs fine, but all I run there are Games and ATCtrader(a day trading software. Think stock market).
This helps to set up some short term goals for my Mac. As I look at how to upgrade my memory and harddrive I find that I can replace my evil optical drive with another harddrive!
Memory Upgrade total to 6GB - 4GB (G.Skill) DDR3 PC3 5800 - $88.99
Harddrive Upgrade to 1TB - 1TB 12.5mm (Samsung) 5400rpm - $114.99
HardDrive caddy (+PLUS external case for Optical Drive) - $99
Total comes under: $325 (don't forget shipping)
That's a hefty amount of dough, especially when I want to get that shiny new iTouch. I digress though. I want to upgrade my Mac, but it's brand spanking new. I'm still in the one year trial period where if anything goes wrong, I'd be forced to purchase the Apple Care plan for a whopping $349.
So I was thinking that it would be best to wait until the year was over, or after 3 years if I decide to get the Apple Care plan. I really need that memory upgrade though. We'll see...
