Fav thing about the Sonozaki twins is how Mion gets so overwhelmed when she is surprised by her sister and is surrounded by others the only way she thinks would be seen as acting normal is a "yeah i dont like her! get out!". Like she has so much intense emotions towards Shion going from love to guilt she has no way to express it so she has to… reject her a little bit. So from others’ pov you almost get the impression that Mion’s opinion of her twin is a childish annoyance and a desire to put as much distance as possible between them two. And it feels so performative of how you expect siblings to act. When in reality you put them in the same room and it’s quite the contrary (something Shion is quite aware of). But you can’t blame her, if your love for someone was closer to homesickness than anything you’d want them to back out a bit or warn before coming.

I love how Rena is presented as a weird kid in Onikakushi, even from the start. Which reinforces Keiichi's later paranoia. How weird or off putting can someone be before you start to devalue their humanity I wonder, I wonder? How many flaws can a person have before you are more willing to condemn them than show understanding? How many sins can a person commit before you decide you have the right to have judgmet over them?

Ryukishi07 answers this later with 'quite a lot actually if you sufficiently regret them and choose to change' as well as 'everyone is at the very least deserves to be understood no matter the weight of their past crimes'.
