i still think Nadeko's arc is a metaphor for US intervention in Laos

think about it - Laos (Nadeko) is attacked by the anticommunists (Nadeko's parents) with the help of the CIA (Gaen). the country is then carpet bombed and covered in landmines (childhood trauma). this is encouraged by Vang Pao (also Nadeko's parents), a figure who claims to be protecting people but actually just brings immense harm to the people of Laos (Koyomi)

Vang Pao continues to insist on escalating carpet bombing despite being proven as ineffectual in the fight against communism (Nadeko's desire to draw manga), while eventually giving up and fleeing the country while leaving his countrymen to suffer under the conditions he created (Nadeko's parents kicking her out of the house)

it just makes too much sense

Araragi and Shinobu's dynamic is genuinely unmatched because ive never seen this in another anime. It feels very bittersweet. They arent even romantically involved with one another yet their relationship feels deeper than that. They're literally eachother's halves. This is the type of bond between characters that I'll remember for years and I wish I had a good enough vocabulary to put it into words. Its def the reason why I started this franchise. Paired with the vampire angst its perfect :) I also love how Araragi's first encounter with Shinobu seems to be based on a Buddhist story about a starving tigress. There's a dude on tiktok who did a brief analysis of that and he explains it far better than I ever could so take a look, he also has other monogatari related analysis

LINK Also before getting into monogatari I remember searching up Shinobu and one of the first things that popped up was a reddit post saying how she was boring and that she was overrated, so I thought to myself "damn... i hope this guy isnt right" and when I finally started watching, it genuinely escaped me how this was even a take to begin with lol
