Hi guys, this is a clip of the rendering process for my recent portrait piece. I got a lot of compliments for the way it turned out, particularly the unsmoothened, textured look of it that almost made it seem like a traditional gouache painting.

In reality, this was just painting without smudging. I used a mostly opaque brush. I used this method a lot in the past to train myself to paint with colors. By rendering in this way, you are forced to see colors with a macro view. You will train yourself to consider the colors with respect to the values around it when deciding if it will serve a purpose in your painting. This method really changed the way I approached painting with colors. With this you don't need to be precise, or methodical, or rigid. You just need to trust your intuition which you gradually develop over time with practice. Yes, there is a certain vagueness to this approach and no two artists will achieve the same result every time. That makes it more powerful in my opinion. I hope you find this clip insightful.
