Kids Design Glass

I went to a glass museum recently and they had a program where they let kids design glass artwork and it brightened my day so much that I had to share some of my favorites:

Kids have such neat ideas and I love that a group of artists were willing to bring them to life.

the thing that bewilders me about a lot of fantasy readers is that they read about settings and plots featuring imperialism, war, and slavery and then call the inclusion of violence, abuse, and sexual exploitation "edgy" and "gratuitous" and it's like what did you think was happening. why were you under the impression that you were going to get a cozy story about fascism or something. far be it from me to criticize anyone for not wanting to read about torture in their spare time, and there are certainly cases where heavy subjects are poorly executed, but is it not equally insulting to sanitize them for a feel-good adventure.. like no one put a gun to your head and forced you to give your fantasy novel an enslaved protagonist. sometimes writing is supposed to make you feel bad

Jonathan Joss was an Indigenous, gay man who was murdered on the first day of Pride month as well as Indigenous History Month. He died protecting his trans husband. Homophobia and racism aren’t marks of the past, and this is a heart breaking reminder of that.

Today is the anniversary of the death of Jonathan Joss (King of the Hill, Parks and Rec). Jonathan Joss was an Indigenous, gay man who died protecting his transgender husband, on the first day of Pride month. Today we remember him and how he protected his family.

I keep forgetting it's not explicitly stated in the movie so for those who haven't read the book, the fact that Rocky actually mentions Adrian in the epilogue is very important. Eridians mate for life, but when Rocky first mentions Adrian and Grace asks, "you have a mate?" Rocky responds with: "Unknown. Mate possibly has new mate. I gone a long time" (46 Earth years + years of travel time). In the book's ending, it's made a little more clear that Rocky and Adrian are still mates specifically, but still! That little line of "I ask Adrian to work on this," means a lot! Adrian waited!!!
