I have prompts and asks I need to be attending and so many fanfictions as well, but I wanted to stop to address something.
Stop making people feel bad for shipping!
Saying “hey don’t tag my posts as ship!” is so, so reasonable and that should always be respected.
“this person doesn’t feel comfortable with being shipped!” whenever this is the case, PLEASE bring it to the blog’s attention with a source. The last thing i’d want to do is make a creator I look up to uncomfortable, and i’m sure most people feel the same.
I very recently, within two months, have reentered the MCYT (Minecraft YouTuber) fandom, and am very out of date on many things. If any blogs or anon would like to help me, i’d love to create a master-list of MCYT creators that state they’re uncomfortable with shipping, or certain aspects of shipping, and link sources to it!
But then we get to things like “shippers don’t interact!!” and to some degree, I don’t.. exactly agree with this. I’m sure there are many shippers that blatantly disregard respect for content creators, of both the source and fan content and that is unacceptable. But, for many shippers, I promise you that we can look at fanart, or a clip, or whatever else, and enjoy it as strictly platonically.
With the phrase “shippers don’t interact” I do understand the intent, to not share a piece of art, fanfiction etc that you worked passionately on and have it spread and be misrepresented as something it’s not. But what it does instead, is scare away milder shippers from your work even when they do see it the way it was intended. Sadly, no matter what, the people who are the real problem will always continue to engage and try to turn it into something it’s not.
..Taking all this in mind, it then can reach a point that has NO BUSINESS being in place. blatantly degrading, insulting, and just generalizing shippers as a whole. at the end of the day, SHIPPING DOESN’T AFFECT YOU UNLESS IT’S ABOUT YOU
I understand wanting to protect and respect your favorite content creators from people that disrespect them and treat them more like a toy than a living person. But sometimes it’s fucking ridiculous.
Many hermits are OBVIOUSLY comfortable with shipping. Grian and Mumbo are raising a robot son. Ren went into Doc’s stream and said “have my puppies!!” etc
you aren’t protecting jackshit by excluding, mocking and bitching about an entire group of the fandom. even the hermits themselves acknowledge a differentiation between their sona and themselves. Call me delusional I guess but I don’t think saying “haha green cryptid cyborg and a werewolf have a pet cow fused with mushrooms and live in half of a mansion!! uwu” is hurting or attacking anyone, let alone disrespecting marriages.
At the end of the day, we’re shipping borderline fictional characters. I barely see a difference between these sonas, and franchise characters based off real people. Sonas and real people are still VERY different.
This turned into a bit of a rant but I’ve had this in mind for a while. I’ll summarize this all one more time:
If you yourself don’t ship, that’s fine and you’re more than allowed to do so.
If you yourself don’t want your work to be interpreted as anything but platonic, that’s honestly very very reasonable.
If you don’t even want your work to be acknowledged by that side of the fandom, I think we can all understand that.
If you think the fandom has no place for shippers, and that it’s remotely acceptable to treat shippers like shit because they have a different perspective than you, you need to reevaluate yourself. Treat people how you want to be treated. It doesn’t affect you personally, so if you don’t like it? Don’t read it.
