Day 24 of #migratorymay2026 is #canary. The ominous looking contraption shown here is a cage meant to revive coal mine canaries after exposure to toxic gas. Many miners valued their canaries as pets and companions as well as sentinel animals and wanted to make sure they stayed alive.

every encounter with a snake i've had involved someone shouting "hey i found a snake" then everyone crowding around to look at the snake which is probably not the best thing to do when you see a snake. but who can resist the allure of going "ooh a snake"

Bronzewings are some of my favourite birds. I never saw them growing up, but they've been enjoying my folks' backyard for the past ten years or so, especially now they've got chickens and there's an abundance of seed around. They walk up and down the path to and from the fountain like regency lovers taking exercise.
