Something that’s almost never covered in fantasy mediums is common names.
Like we all know fantasy names are unusual, but any name to a foreign culture is considered unusual English names to Indian people are very unusual for example. But naturally, given that it’s an entire culture, there will be some common names, it’d be refreshing to at one point here this exchange.
“So I was talking to Vicnae and-”
“Wait which Vicnae? You can’t just say Vicnae. There are ten Vicnae’s in my village alone.”
This has 100 notes yesterday and 300 this morning what the fuck happened.
People understand the truly important things.
DSA (a German fantasy P&P RPG) actually has the name Alrik, which is hugely popular in the universe. Everyone is Alrik.
This is also a great excuse to use “X the Y” or “X of Y” type names without being pretentious. Calling someone “Thognor The Stout” goes from pomposity to practicality if he lives down the road from Thognor The Small.

~~*~surnames~*~~
my family is from a town in Ireland where everyone has the last name Ryan. literally like everyone. so they differentiated families by calling them by their professions, right?
anyway we’re the Horse Thief Ryans
People who read books for at least 3.5 hours a week live an average of two years longer (magazines, newspapers, and the Internet don’t count). Source
3.5 hours a week? How about 3.5 hours a day?! (okay... maybe like 2 hours a day, but the weekends make my average higher) What’s your number? :)
“The book is a film that takes place in the mind of the reader. That’s why we go to movies and say, ‘oh, the book is better’” ~ Paulo Coelho
If I ever read another book with some magical/supernatural creature whose last name is Devereaux (or some other spelling of it) it will be too soon.

I have an amazing deal for you today! It’s a book that I really enjoyed (like 5 stars enjoyed) and it’s FREE ON AMAZON! <-- Just click there to get you very own copy! Or here. I was one of the lucky people that got to read an ARC but I’m only sharing now since it wasn’t out yet. I’m going to share my review so you know what’s going on and please excuse my excitedness I’d just finished the book and I’m always super invested in the stories when I write reviews like 2 minutes after I finish a book, lol THE REVIEW!
You guys! YOU GUYS! This book is freaking UH-MAY-ZING! I want to start just squealing about all the things that I liked but I'm going to be an adult and actually tell you something about it first so you know where we're at. Our main character is... a girl named Calamity. I bet you didn't see that one coming :P She's lived a very sheltered life with her grandma (translation: she can't fight, is naive and kind of lost out there (which makes her really relateable for me, lol!)) One day she's flung into the real and dangerous world out there (thanks mom), a world that's filled with all kinds of magical creatures... most of which are able to kill you with less effort than it you to read this review. Calamity knows she needs an escort in her world so she asks a guy that seems like he could protect her but that he could also sort of kind of not be a bad guy. He was a bad guy. And probably one of the most dangerous things in her whole crazy world. But that's okay because you're going to love him. At least I did. His name is Weston and he's mysterious and after finishing the book I still don't know what to make of him. I guess that's kind of bad... ish. But I don't care. I decided I'd put my faith in him and like him. And that's final! He's a killer and he's mean and he's rough and he doesn't care but he's also caring and can be gentle...ish :D Oh I don't know maybe I developed Stockholm syndrome. Anyway I don't want to give too much away so I'll stop here but eek! It's so exciting and I can blame my sleep deprivation in it. The ending was BULLSHIT AND I NEED THE SECOND BOOK RIGHT NOW BECAUSE I'M NOT READY FOR IT TO END LIKE THIS AND I NEED TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENS NEXT, OKAY! OKAY!! Why are authors so cruel and leave us with cliffhanger endings? Do you not care about your reader's mental well being at all?! *deep breath in* *deep breath out* If you're okay with an Inception-like ending, read it. It's really good. If you're not okay with the Inception-like ending... wait for the second book (thank god there's a second book) to come out and THEN read it.

Young Adult - Fiction that (primarily) portrays an adolescent as the protagonist, rather than an adult or a child. The subject matter and story lines are typically consistent with the age and experience of the main character, but beyond that, the stories span the entire spectrum of fiction genres. The settings are limited only by the imagination and skill of the author.
3.5 stars I need to start this off by saying that that COVER IS. ABSOLUTELY. GORGEOUS! ...and hot. lol That being said... the book wasn't as scorching. There weren't that many lovey/lusty moments. *pouty face* I really enjoyed Anabelle. She really liked Kaden, but she didn't let him walk all over her even though she's a really sweet girl. She's real honest and she has some backbone! When she stood up to Kaden I was like you go girl! Also, please give me some of your recipes! I... kind of didn't like Kaden that much, though. He had loads of bright moments but as soon as his heart started beating I just felt like telling him to stop being an idiot and go get his girl! But I realize an alien can't be perfect (don't we wish?) and must be just as flawed as human men, and so I had to forgive him. The one thing that I can say took away at least 1 star was the abruptness of the plot/writing. Otherwise the writing was fine, the conversations didn't seem staged or unnatural and all was good but... I just couldn't get over the rapid changes of opinion. *MIGHT BE A SPOILER UP AHEAD* Kaden was all reluctant and whatnot, then suddenly his mind changes just like THAT, then it changed again (I'm being vague, I know but I don't want to give anything away, but I don't know how to explain what bothered em otherwise) ARC kindly provided by Entangled Publishing in exchange for an honest review
