Okay. I wasn’t planning to post anything about the “animal hint”. But, the user @oohsenun told a theory that she had in mind and I thought it was interesting to share with you, guys.
The supposed hint is this:
When I first saw this animals, I was confused. I thought with myself: it looks like two couples, the first one made by the wolf and the monkey, and the second one made by another monkey and a cow. After there are this theory about the Chinese Calendar, that it’s nice, but it doesn’t have a dog in there, but a Wolf. And I’ll still think that the cow is a cow, not an ox. Maybe it could be because it hadn’t a similar animal, but…
This theory won’t use the “Chinese Calendar”. We’ll analyse the animals we can see here instead.
Here, the animals are people. Who, may you ask?
The first Monkey would be Jongin, the second would be Kai (it’s important to separate Jongin from Kai), the Wolf is Kyungsoo and the Cow is Krystal.
Let’s start with Jongin. Why Jongin would be the first monkey?
His dark skin tone (really idiot, I know that already);
When you look for the symbolic meaning of a monkey, you’ll find this:
Symbolic monkey meaning is often deals with animated entertainment, and monkeys are depicted as mischievous figures in myth, legend and lore.
Jongin is playful with people around him. If you notice, you can see a lot of moments where he shows his mischievous personality with Sehun, Beagle Line and Taemin. And he is a part of entertainment world. Always made. He loved to dance since he was a child and trained a lot to be where he is now. Dance and his dream to be a performer are part of his personality; something that can’t be denied. You can’t imagine Kim Jongin without imagining his dance. And watch how the first monkey is. He looks playful, if you compare with the second one.
Talking about the second now. Why I separated Jongin from Kai? Aren’t they the same person? Yes and no. Yes because they’re inside the same body, but no because Kai is another persona of Kim Jongin.
Kai is the public version of Kim Jongin. Is what the media, fans, photographers see of him. He’s they main dancer in EXO, the sexual beast that winks at fans and who needs to appear perfect. The second monkey isn’t playful anymore. We only can see his face, with red lips in a smile (maybe we can tell that this monkey is using lipstick lol). That’s the vision media and everyone else sees him. That’s Kai, not the real Kim Jongin.
Now, why Kyungsoo would be protraited as a wolf? Again, two possibilites:
To indicate the group involved (you know, Wolf concept);
We can suppose that the Wolf means nothing much, like the cow. I heard people saying that the cow (actually an ox), would mean a hint to point out the involved group, in the case, EXO (XOXO).
About the personality I, once again, researched about the wolf’s symbolysm, and I need to say that this is interesting:
Not at all the picture of ferocity or terror, the Wolf is a creature with a high sense of loyalty and strength. Another misconception is that of the “lone wolf.” To the contrary, the Wolf is actually a social creature, friendly, and gregarious with its counterparts.
If you observe Kyungsoo enough, you can’t deny that he is, indeed, loyal. He told that he wouldn’t exchange EXO for his acting career and he did every schedule he had to do along with the members. He’s also loyal to people. Consider Jongin. It doesn’t matter if they’re in good or bad moments, but Kyungsoo is always helping him. He helped him to walk, hold his chair for him and his crutches. That means that Kyungsoo is a person that, not only Jongin but the other members can count on.
It doesn’t seem like it, but Kyungsoo is friendly, more friend that he seems to be. How he has so many powerful friends in such a little period of time? Jo Insung, Kim Woobin, Lee Kwangsoo and many others. They’re different in personality, but Kyungsoo made a strong bond with them.
Kyungsoo and Jongin (the monkey and the wolf) are represented here in the “real world”, the one without cameras, fans and people to judge them. In this world, they can be themselves. And they can love each other without restrictions.
But you see that the wolf is equal to the cow and the first monkey is equal to the second one. It’s obvious that there are two monkeys and that they’re similar. So, why they’re different emoticons to represent the same person? Like I said before, it means that Jongin = Kai, similar monkeys but never the same.
While Jongin represents the world behind the cameras (the world he needs to hide), Kai is the one that has the spotlight. He’s the spetacle, the show that everyone sees and loves. And the world that Kai appears is the “idol world”. And there, the cow occupies the role that the wolf does in Jongin’s real life: is the person he’s in love with, in front of the public’s eyes.
But why represent Krys as a cow? Once again, I have some guesses:
An important symbol for SM at the moment.
Since I already mentioned the first reason above, I’ll comment the second one. Differently of Kyungsoo and Jongin, when I looked for the cow symbol I didn’t find anything that matched with her, at first. But we see it as a important animal, sacred even. So, maybe this symbolism doesn’t match with her personality, but with her importance for SM right now.
Everybody knows that this is the last year of f(x)’s contract. They can renew it or not, if they wish. The problem with Krystal is that Jessica left the company in not good terms with the company, since she was expelled, we can say. And SM invested money in Krystal’s career. She does modeling, acting and is another member of f(x). And since Sulli already left the group, it wouldn’t be nice if another member decided not to renew with the company and left the group with only three members.
So, the cow symbol could mean how special and important she is, so SM doesn’t want her to leave just yet. Maybe to protect SM’s reputation putting her in a relationship with Kai (since Jongin is dating Kyungsoo in this theory). Or maybe SM is using her relationship to force her to stay in the company a little longer?
See this drawing like it was a comic. First we have the monkey and the wolf with a heart between them. That probably means they’re in love with each other. That’s the couple SM is trying to hide, since the wolf = cow and monkey 1 = monkey 2. The company couldn’t force Jongin to break up anymore, so they used Kai persona in their favor, simply putting him with Krystal, to make a public couple that would, automatically shield the “real life couple”.
So, there are two couples, four people (counting Jongin/Kai as two different people) and two different reality plans.
I know that doesn’t make sense, but since I’m on team crazy anyway, it would be nice to make something out of this. And thank you, @oohsenun, for bringing this up!
