she has been watching the young exorcist closely for several minutes before she dares make their presence known.  “  chongyun, isn’t it ?  ”  it’s an attempt at being friendly, though not a particularly successful one. they’ve never been especially fond of cryo wielders  —  being capable of restricting the hydra’s movements as they are.  “  a little birdie told me you were the one to go to for issues regarding demons ?  ”  they don’t have any demon problems themself, being an ancient god who could defeat any demon that dared approach them, but  —  well, the child seems naïve, perhaps he can be set upon the arrogant harbinger that presumed to control her.  “  i’m shui, by the way.  ”  or, fuck it, maybe she can make a friend.

At first, questions are raised in his mind of how his name is known. But, it simply seems his reputation proceeds him once again. No such thing as a day off for a job like his, just moments between commissions. 

And perhaps this will finally be the one. So, he rises from where he sits and nods politely, assuming a business-like posture.

“That I am. Ghosts, demons, any hauntings or possessions requiring exorcism are my speciality. Tell me, Shui, what is it that ails you?”

      “Oh, good afternoon! You’re an unfamiliar face, is this your first time visiting Mondstadt? If so, then I, Noelle, maid of the Knights of Favonius, am at your service!” Right on cue, she curtsies, neat and tidy. “If there is anything I can do to make your visit to our fair city better, please don’t hesitate to ask.”

“Oh, greetings! I was unaware Mondstadt had such welcoming committees.”

Then again, he doesn’t exactly know much about the city of freedom. Dragged here by both traveling companions and a rumour to be investigated, he’d hardly had time to do much research before making the journey here. 

“I’m actually here more on business than simply visiting. Would you happen to know where I could find a library, or some sort of book store?”

as you’d expect, chongyun is very in tune with the flow energy in the world, and how it interacts with living things and their spirits. and, again, as you’d expect, he can sense when something is different.

if something is off about your muse for some reason, he’s likely going to sense it. this isn’t me trying to godmod, because he’s not always going to know what exactly he’s sensing (and he’ll usually jump to assuming its ghost or demon related) but he will have some vague sense that something is amiss.

By no means does Xinyan have any experience with either toxicology or demons. And why should she? It’s extremely unlikely she’ll ever come across anything to do with the former (well, until this very moment, apparently), and while she doesn’t deny the existence of demons and the like, that’s what exorcists like Chongyun are for, right? So why should she bother? She has her own career to build anyway! And usually it seems the aforementioned exorcist tried to avoid her (or at least her shows, which is a bummer, but apparently rock ‘n’ roll just isn’t for everyone!), so she has always had even less reason to get herself involved with such things.

So for him to approach her and ask for help throws her for a loop. For a few moments, she can only stare as if he’d grown three heads. To her credit, though, she does recover quickly, and then she flashes him that usual ear-to-ear grin. The poor guys needs help, does he? Well, who is she to deny him? Even if she has to wonder where his usual buddy went, if he’s not there to help him in her stead. 

❝Well, it just so happens that I am free! My next show won’t be for another few days, and practice for today’s already done! So what exactly do you need from me in order to help?❞

That’s also a relief to hear. Maybe then he won’t run the risk of hearing her play... too much. He would never ask her not to, of course, but...

He restrains himself from shivering at the thought. No, this is excellent that she’s agreed. Even if she isn’t his first pick, she’s certainly far from his last. 

“Embarrassingly... I mostly just need someone to come with me. They seemed to think I’m just out of my mind, but if I had another with me, it might seem more official... After some digging into what they suggested, of course. I’d like to not bother them again if they are, by some chance, correct. It’s probably rather boring to you, but...”
