trying a different approach…

- This is very different to the approach I was heading with the leaves but I thought i might try to experiment with household objects and see what I can do and make with them.

- This still has elements of Andy Goldsworthy approach of separation of colours but in this case it’s with unnatural, man-made objects, which kind of contradicts his work in a way.

- Here I still applied the colour segmentation and collected all the red things i could find in our garage

- It’s similar to the activity we did in class of erasure and taking out someones belongings out of their bag, erasing the bag out of the picture and revealing what contains inside. Making something out of it using those materials, yarn, cling wrap and plastic bags.

…Then at the very end i just scattered leaves on it :P too much?

EXPERIMENTING WITH ERASURE

After experimenting with the idea of erasure and removing the majority of an objects content, only leaving its crucial skeletal structure/seams, I decided to experiment with natural objects such as leaves.

Sleep Map.

charcoal on wrinkled A1 carbon paper.

This work maps the movement of the sleeper over a night. It was created by laying the a1 sheet of paper between the mattress and the bedsheets. In the morning the crinkled and torn paper was removed and rubbed with charcoal to highlight the crinkles created. If you look closely you can see the sleepers main position- face down, leg outstretched, imprinted into the sheet. Can you find it?

PROBLEM setting up your page for Assessment 3.

if you are getting this problem once you have done everything right it is because the theme you have chosen does not have a PAGE option.

So all you need to do is select a different theme for the new assessment page that you are setting up.

And you should be all good.

Week 13

This is our last face-to-face class for #cofa1001! Final assessments are due online the following week.

In this week's class I will be holding one-on-one meetings with everyone to give feedback on your work-in-progress for the final assessment.

The rest of the class will be time to work individually on your assessments. Please make sure you bring whatever you need to do this - whether that be a laptop for Tumblr work or materials for art-making.

Here is a way to create a new page for the final assessment and include the ten pieces of media.

1. Log into your page (not dashboard) and click ‘customise’, scroll to the bottom of the menu on the left side and click ‘pages’ and then add page.

2. name your page ‘tagged/assessment3’ - now anything with this tag will appear on the page

3. name the page - assessment 3 or something similar

4. Now everything i tag with ‘assessment3’ will appear on my page

Why reflect?

Remember the Assessment Criteria:

Demonstrate a critical understanding of the course theme through the production of the assessment. Does the assessment project itself show you have comprehended the idea of experimenting with process?

Evaluate your practice and use of experimental process through critical reflection in the written component of the task.

Compose and Prioritise documentary evidence of experimental process in your portfolio through the curation of the ten elements of the portfolio. 

And Learning Outcomes!

Critically understand and investigate ideas using experimental processes in the studio

Comprehend the function of documentation as a process and reflect on the use of documentation in developing ideas and studio practice

“Don’t decide what the answer is before you’ve asked the question”.

What questions did people ask of themselves before these extraordinary human feats were envisaged and then actually realised?  What new tools (and ways of using them) were created to achieve these ideas and how many steps were taken in the process of experimenting with techniques in order for the concept to ‘work’?  Don’t be limited by what materials, techniques or ideas exist today. Instead, imagine what could be possible (and then start experimenting)!

The very way that we present information can change how we understand it. The field of data visualisation incorporates experimental approaches to the way we present or 'map' data.

Video: Sam Winston explains his process in producing Orphan

Since 1999 I collated scraps of paper, diary notes and typed word document all pertaining to this one idea I was trying to express through a story

And when in 2010 I finally did reach a final draft, I also realised I had generated a history of documents that said something about the process of writing itself.

For Orphan I wanted to present both my final tale and show the archaeology of that writing process. By cutting out the words from my previous drafts I created clouds of text that I could use as the ‘typeface’ for my final draft. It is a book in which you have both the story and it’s history presented on the same page.
