To date, I’ve had 21 jobs and received 118 rejection emails. This was one of them. I remember being so discouraged and even hurt at how curt it was. But I didn’t stop. Later that same year, I started teaching 3D animation and 2 years later, I got a job for my all-time favourite TV Channel growing up: Nickelodeon. It was surreal! It was here that I found my calling; Production. The perfect balance in working at the industry I’ve wanted since I can hold a crayon, and being able to make art on the side. It was the dream. ▪️ Still, I didn’t stop. I learned over the years that you never stop learning. With each job, I grew and became “a better fit” for the next job or the next goal. I went on to work on TV shows, film, and expanded EK outside of Vancouver. (Pretty far from being a Sandwich Artist, I’d say! Haha.) Not all my jobs were “industry-related” but I know for certain that I wouldn’t be who I am and where I am today without these experiences. Rejections included. ▪️ In my last studio, I was lucky enough to meet one of my heroes, Glen Keane. He drew on my book (faints) and wrote a message that I’d like to share with you: “Plus est en vous!” There is more in you. ♥️ So, don’t you stop. 😉
