Obliviated// Hermione
hermione didn't have the best experiences with slytherins throughout the years & jennifer was no different. though, jennifer was mostly a lovely girl in all aspects â a friendship just couldn't bloom due to her social circle. there were times that hermione wished that things in wizarding world weren't still so prejudice but, with the dark lord risen, everything was different. most say it felt as it did during the first wizarding war while others say it feels much more... dreadful. ' i'll have you know that i do not find transfiguration boring... i justâ it's been hard getting sleep now-a-days, ' hermione huffed as she angrily began to scribble down a sentence. though, it could've been sworn she almost cracked a smile. ' i've seen who your circle is... it's safe to say that they don't have the best reviews. '
hermione had made a face at jennifer's words. she wasn't the type to worry about others as competition, especially since she knew that no one could compete with her. call it cocky but hermione wasn't dumb; she knew she was the brightest of her age. ' very funny, but, no. i'm just impressed. there's not many who can achieve an outstanding in all their O.W.L.S. ' besides herself, of course. there was a sigh that had escaped her as she had opened her textbook to the chapter that mcgonagall recently covered. ' page two-hundred & fifty four. we'll be going over the bird-conjuring charm. '
Jen almost laughed as Hermione tried to assure that she wasnât as bored as her current studying counterpart was, but she held it together to save face for Hermione. She didnât want to make her Saturdays a living Hell. âYouâve read reviews on my circle? Wow, I'm flattered.â She said, eyeing her still with the mischievous smirk. She held back the urge to kick her under the table-- just a light tap on the ankle or something-- to get a rise out of her when she saw the face Hermione made at a notion of competition.Â
âYouâve read reviews on my group and are impressed with my O.W.L.S.? If I wasnât mistaken I would say that you were a fan of mine.â She laughed. She sent a teasing wink Hermione's way before looking back down to her textbook, flipping to the chapter. She groaned, her interest in the topic going out the window. âHermione, weâve already covered that. Next topic.â She said and flipped through the book, finally stopping a couple hundred pages in. âNow, here is something much more interesting.â She grinned. âAdvanced Jinxes and reversals.â She read aloud. âCome on, âMione, catch up. Page six-hundred and eight.â She snapped her fingers in a playful manner.Â
@oblivated
there stood hermione in quite the disbelief â having a student enlist for help was quite the honor but who it was happened to have stumped her. â professor mcgonagall, as much as i value your instincts, you canât beâ â enough. hermione wasnât one to talk back once shushed; her parents had taught her far better than that. she respected her elders especially her professors & the promise of excurriculars was quite intriguing so to speak. the moment that the older woman had stood aside in the great hall to have hermione pass in, she caught a glimpse of who her subject would be. there was a soft sigh that escaped her while she clutched harder onto her textbooks to her chest, giving her professor a curt nod.
hermione had made her seat before the other, setting down her textbooks to the side before grabbing her journal. â iâve seen your marks, not sure why youâve enlisted in my help, â her words were meant to come off as a bit prude. hermione didnât want to do this & would rather be off in hogsmeade with the others if that meant she got out of this. a dip of her quill in her ink while her thumb & index finger rubbed at the corner of the journal page. â iâm not doing this for your sake as much for mine. just⊠no funny business, alright ? â // @exquisite-slytherinâ
Jennifer had been beyond bored in transfiguration class since the start of the semester. She was at the top of the class of Slytherin so it was foreseeable that, although it was a NEWT level class, it still became uninteresting to Jen after a short while. It was only a month into the year when Professor McGonagall finally realized why Ms. Nott hadnât been paying attention and, instead of punishing her, she decided to solve the problem.
That was why she was now sitting across from Hermione Granger, the top of Gryffindor and Jen was sure she was the top of their class, on a Saturday morning, both missing out on a delightful trip to Hogsmeade. Everything must have a sacrifice.
Jen eyed Hermione as she spoke, her eyebrows raising teasingly at her words. They had came off in a way that made Jen irritated; they hadnât gotten along the best throughout the years. Jen didnât have anything against the bushy-haired girl, her group just treated her different because she was a Slytherin and who her friends and family wereâ which wouldâve been understandable to anyone outside looking in.
âYour words wound, Hermione.â Jen spoke as she placed her textbooks on the library desk they resided at. âIf it strokes your ego a little, Mcgonagall paired you with me because she knew her class was boring me to death and youâre the only person on my skill level that also was bored by the class, no matter how much iâm sure you wish to deny it.â She smirked as she dipped her quill into Hermioneâs ink with a sly wink.
âFunny business? I know of no such thing. As I said before, your words wound me.â She titled the top of her parchment with the topic they were working and the date.
She looked up at the curly-haired girl with a mischievous smirk. If she was going to be paired with Hermione on a Saturday and stuck in a library when she couldâve been with Draco, Blaise, and Pansy at Hogsmeade, she would. easy make it worth her time. âYouâve seen my marks? Worried you had competition?â She teasedâ lightheartedly, of course. Despite her teasing nature, Jen had never said or participated in any of the malicious word slinging that Hermione and Draco often had with each other.

With all the hustle and bustle of the other schools, Beaubaxton and Durmstrang, arriving at Hogwarts for the Tri-Wizard competitions, Jen assumed that the teachers would cut some slack in lieu the displacement some of the students were experiencing. Looking back on it as she entered Professor Snapeâs usual classroom, shivering ever-so-slightly from the damp cold that filled the room, she knew the idea of the thought being applied to Professor Snape was ludicrous as he flicked his wand, sending a white piece of chalk across the chalkboard, recording the instructions, objectives, and partners for a project.
Professor Snape cleared his throat as Jen took her seat but one look at the board had her standing back up again. âHello,â Professor greeted dryly. âOn the chalk board is instructions and your partner assignments. We will beginning a project. Each group of two will receive a potion to brew. Each potion will take from two to four weeks to brew and in addition to that, you will each write an essay with a minimum length of three feet.â Professor Snape drawled, earning groans from the class, including a soft one of exasperation from Jen. She looked at the board, finding her name and she followed it to the left, reading the name next to it and she felt relieved for a moment that they were a fellow Slytherin; she didnât think that she could handle working with a Gryffindor for a whole month.
Her eyes moved away from the chalk board, searching for the platinum blonde hair that belonged to her partner, Draco Malfoy. Her and Draco hadnât said but a total of three words to each other in their four years of being in the same house and year as each other, but she considered them to be on relatively good terms. He had never messed with her, neither had his group of friends, so she had no reason to be threatened by him, so to say. She did feel a bit standoffish, however, due to the scowl residing on his face that she hoped came from the excessive amount of work that Snape just gave them and not his partner assignment.
The classroom erupted in scrapings of the wooden stools on the stone floor and mold chatter as the students switched seats to sit next to their partners and Jen followed in suit, finding her way to the empty seat besides Draco and she set her bag down before sitting next to him.
She smiled kindly and put her potions text book, parchment, wand, and quill on the desk. She busied her hands with straightening them as she greeted him over the slowly-dying chatter of the briefly live classroom. âIâm glad that youâre my partner and not Seamus,â She started with a light laugh, trying to break the ice without the awkwardness. âI donât think I would make it through the month.â She finally lifted her gaze to meet his. A slip of paper floated to the edge of their desk and she unfolded it, reading their potion.
âWeâre making a Skele-gro potion,â She said and handed him the slip before opening her textbook up. âIâm Jennifer by the way, I donât think iâve ever formally introduced myself. You can call me Jen though,â She said and looked back up to him. âDo you have any free periods throughout the week? So we can schedule days to brew and write the essay?â She suggested.

It took him a few moments to realize what she hadnât said. He hadnât caught it at first. Not sure why she would get into a fight with Pansy over some boy. But then he remembered the crush Pansy had on him during their early years, and suddenly everything made sense. It was as though someone had sucker-punched him. He barely registered the way she squeezed his hand or her hand slipping from his. A slow panic began to rise as he took a step back, a wave of emotion hitting him with a sudden force. He stumbled back as he realized that she had been in love with him all this time, and he had been completely oblivious.
He still remembered the fight clearly. Insults were hurled and hexes were cast. He also remembered having to break up the fight. His booming voice had echoed through the courtyard and brought an end to what he had naively thought was a childish fight. âYou hexed Pansy because of me.â Finally finding his voice as a shaky breath escaped from his lips. He was in pure disbelief and shock, not because he didnât feel the same way. But because he had long thought her friendship was all he could have. He hadnât wanted to risk losing her and now even more so. âWhy did you return to Hogwarts Jen?â He questioned. His heart thumping, certain he knew the answer, and yet he was terrified to hear it. He had faced far scarier things, but this was different. She was his best friend.
The knowing looks from Pansy and Blaze finally made sense, but now he wondered who else knew. It was starting to send him to the edge of insanity, but he needed an answer from her. He needed to know how she felt, even if this was the end of their friendship. He couldnât continue like this hadnât happened. Sure, to anyone else her answer would seem innocent enough. But he wasnât anyone and nor was she. Flashbacks entered his mind, one after the other as he remembered the letters they had exchanged. Seemingly innocent, but now he realized was something more.
Jen continued to walk, not having noticed his hand falling from hers until it completely left her grip and she became gravely aware of the loss of Dracoâs footsteps next to hers. She stalled her motions before turning to him at his assumption. She looked at him, trying to keep her face stoic but she could feel a bit of the color draining from her face; she hoped he just thought the cold was getting to her. The tone that he spoke in made her heart drop.Â
It was these moments where she hated the composure that Draco could always keep; the mask that he could always keep intact, although he never necessarily used it around her. This, however, seemed to be a time where either he was masking his voice, she hoped. She could usually read him like a book when they were alone and she took his masking as a rejection.Â
She took a deep breath, her heart feeling like it was going to explode and she could feel the tension press against the inside of her skull. She couldnât lie to him, she knew that. It sunk in within a millisecond that she was going to have to tell Draco, her best friend, that she returned to Hogwarts solely because of him; Because she felt that, without Draco, she couldnât find meaning in being at all of the beautiful places she traveled to-- she was missing a piece of her.Â
She finally regained her wits from being caught off guard and began to speak. âI did,â She started, confirming his suspicion of her hexing Pansy over him. âI forgot you had such a good memory, honestly.â She tried to divert the topic but the look on Dracoâs face told her she wasnât getting away with this. She took another deep breath in hopes of lessening the tremble in her voice. âI returned because of you,â She said honestly.Â
âOf course, Hogwarts is my home but I returned because of you.â She couldnât bear to look into his eyes, she didnât want to see the possible pity or rejection in the grey orbs of his so she kept her eyes on his shoes. âI know itâs a lot, you donât have to feel anything, especially at the same velocity that I just laid it on you,â She laughed nervously, her voice trembling. She was terrified, despite what she was showing, of losing her best friend.

Draco still clearly remembered the look of pure horror on professor Snapeâs face, followed by a brief moment of speechlessness. âI donât think I ever saw him speechless or horrified like he was then.â He chuckled in unabashed amusement. Feeling her hand squeeze his hand and secretly glad that she hadnât let go just yet. He had wanted to savor the moment for as long as possible. Before too many distractions and people got in-between them. His amusement fading, as he sensed her disapproval of his regard for the students, he hated how authoritative he had become. The carefree days of his youth, no longer what they once were. âI am sorry about the students, I know you donât approve, but I had no choice. I am not the same rebellious Draco that I used to be.â He sighed deeply, turning to look at her.
But his amusement soon returned as he felt her pull him out of the common room. âI donât scowl!â He objected as he took a fleeting glance at the students and noticed their amused looks. His gaze fell on her as she led him up the stairs from the dungeon, watching as she slowly took in the paintings. Though her confession had surprised him, he knew it hadnât been unfounded. A lot had changed during her time away, though one thing that hadnât changed was his feelings for her. It had taken him a long time to admit how he felt, the words on the tip of his tongue.
âWhen you were gone. The only thing that got me through the days were your letters. I savored each letter, not sure when I would see you again if I ever. I was afraid that you would forget me or worse, decide that your life outside Hogwarts was far more important.â He confessed, his chest constricting at the thought that she would stop writing letters to him during her absence.
Silence lingered between them as their footsteps echoed throughout the corridor and they reached the wooden doors leading to courtyard. Draco followed her as he stepped outside, smirking at her question. âOf course I remember! Pansy didnât speak to you for a week. Why did you hex her anyway?â He smirked, his hand still in hers.
Jen hummed softly as her steps fell in line with Dracoâs, listening to him talk. She felt her chest become a tad lighter at his confession of his dependency on her letters; She had the same dependency on his and it was hard to not let her hopeful feelings of Draco feeling the same way as she did get in the way of her clear thinking. Her thumb brushed against his knuckles once more as a sign that she was listening and wanted to comfort him. Once he finished speaking, she gave a soft smile and accentuated it with a nod. She didnât want to say too much and reveal her true feelings so she decided to just keep it simple. Her eyes diverted from him to the spot she referenced before to the place she hexed Pansy and another laugh left her lips.Â
âMind you, she couldnât speak for three days, the other two days were her trying to be mad at me. She knew she was in the wrong.â She admitted, reminiscing on the day that Pansy had attempted to ask out Draco.Â
At the time, Jen didnât know why she felt so angry that Pansy wanted to ask him out, she just knew that she was angry. Pansy and her got into an argument, both saying mean words and hurling insults at each other before they both drew their wands. Jen didnât remember who drew first. She dodged a bat bogey hex from Pansy and had returned it with a jaw-locking jinx and a pimple face hex.Â
Jen thought again for a moment, trying to play through the responses she could give him and which would be the best to not give away that it was because she was in love with him and Pansy wanted to ask him out. âPansy went against girl code.â She responded and shook her head. âShe was boy crazy and she told me that she wanted to ask a boy that I liked out and then we got into an argument,â She finished, deciding that it was enough details to give without it seeming suspicious.Â
She silently hoped that he would drop the subject as they moved along the stone path, her eyes trailing across the long, rolling, green hills of the grounds in awe. She forgot how gorgeous the grounds were. Her eyes moved back to Draco, giving his hand a soft squeeze as a heavy, cold wind blew past them. She shivered lightly, her hand finally leaving his as she rubbed her arms in attempt to warm back up. âI forgot how pretty it was out here. The grounds were the second thing I missed the most,â She said with a bright grin.Â

Draco couldn't help but roll his eyes at her sarcasm, but truth be told. It was one of the things he liked most about her. She was more than capable of holding her own when it came to him, and she also knew him better than most. Besides, he could do with a distraction from classes. The need to always lead by example was starting to wear on him. "You mean like the time you almost burned down Professor Snape's laboratory?" He teased as vivid memories flashed through his mind. "If it had not been for me, he would have expelled you." He chuckled with a wicked glint in his eyes.
The soft sigh from her lips filled his ears. He had never dared to be as honest with anyone else as he was with her. But he knew she felt the same. They were both dancing a fine line between friendship and something more. He noted her laughter as she spoke about him being with her, and good friends being hard to find. He knew that there was something else behind it. But he wasn't going to press it he couldn't risk losing her friendship. In a matter of minutes, he had spoken of everything that had happened in her absence. Grateful that she had been willing to listen as he had talked openly about all that had troubled him.
He offered her a soft smile as she squeezed his hand and he knew that she had thought about the mark that tainted his arm. She had always been far braver for rejecting hers, he had felt like such a coward for his acquiescence. His breath caught slightly at the feeling of her thumb against his knuckles, but soon he became aware of the presence of first and second years who had decided that classes were of the least importance. Turning around, he gave the students a look reserved for those who dare question him. Watching as they jumped up and scurried towards the entrance. "They remind me of us when we used to skip classes." He chuckled. "Come on, let's go." He grinned as he stood up and held out his hand towards her.
Jen scoffed lightly and shook her head at the notion that Professor Snape would have expelled her; she knew that he would never. âHe wouldnât have dared. I did get a whole month of detentions from him, which were not fun. That being said, I donât regret it.â She laughed softly, nudging him lightly as he got to his feet from the couch. Her hand kept in his, desperately just wanting to keep contact with him that she had been ever-so-deprived of over the past year. She took his hand and got off of the comfortable, warm couch. She squeezed his hand lightly, still not letting it go as she had dreamed of finally being able to have contact with him again.Â
She sighed at the look that he gave the first and second years but she didnât say anything, it wasnât worth it. She pulled him out of the common room, her face beaming with a bright grin as he brought up the two running to the exit. She regarded them briefly before turning back to him. âYouâre right. Maybe itâs because the boy is scowling at the girl. It looks like yours,â She said playfully.Â
She regarded the familiar hall leading out of the common room, her face still beaming in the otherwise dim lighting. She led the way up the stairs leading from the dungeon, slowly taking in the paintings that she oddly missed. âI was worried things had changed here, honestly.â She admitted once Draco was beside her, her hand slipping slightly out of his but they were still linked by their pinkies. âI knew things wouldnât have necessarily, but I was worried they did.â She looked out of one of the open windows they were passing, enjoying the brief cool breeze flowing inside.Â
There was something else looming between them other than the borderline-platonic longing and common sense of knowledge of what was being planned this year; it had haunted the both of them and they had expressed it via late night letters. She wasnât going to bring up what she was feeling, though, nor was she going to try to identify the other looming feeling that settled in the back of her mind. Their footsteps continued to fall against the stone floor of the hall until they reached the big wooden doors that opened out to the courtyard, which Jen exited through quickly.Â
âDo you remember in second year when Pansy and I got into a huge fight and I hexed her over there?â She asked, pointing to the left side of the courtyard as they passed it. âI still think she has a few pimples from it.â She laughed as her hand tightened in his.Â

His initial surprise quickly turned to joy as he drew out the moment for a few minutes longer. Her giggles sweet music to his ears and a sobering reminder of how much he had truly missed her. For as long as he had known her, she had been a constant in his life. He had been so utterly miserable and lost without her, and now here she was, in his arms. It was as though she had not left, and life had continued as always. "Oh, I am never letting you leave Jen" He teased playfully, despite knowing that had sincerely meant every word. Draco became aware of the increasing presence of those around him. He should have known that he alone would not be the only one who was both amazed and thrilled to see her. Although, his sentiments ran far intenser than the ones of joy that he currently felt.
He stepped aside as Pansy and Blaze took a moment to express their thrill at her return. Watching as they spoke, he noted how much she had missed them. He waved off their knowing looks as they left the room and headed toward the library. Quickly followed by others who had heard the bell ring. He grinned boyishly, following her as she pulled him toward an empty couch. Unable to resist the soft pout that had formed on her lips, knowing that this was his undoing. âSomeone has to make sure that you stay out troubleâ He sighed dramatically, her playful whining completely melting his resolve and a traitorous smile ghosting across his lips.
His expression sobered as he felt her gaze linger on him, his own eyes taking her in as he committed every feature to memory. He had been so afraid that he would forget how she looked, how her laughter and giggles sounded, how her soft pouts and playful whines were his undoings. But above all, he was terrified of forgetting her completely. âI missed youâ he confessed, as he furrowed his brows, and his feelings of loss and despair reflected in his eyes. âIt wasnât the same without youâ confessions continuing to spill from his lips as he felt as though he was dreaming and would wake up to find it was all a dream and that she was not there.
The grin that adorned Dracoâs face made Jenâs heart flutter as she looked up at him from her spot on the couch. She was thankful that he was going to stay with her, as she didnât want to part with him but she also didnât see a need for her to attend classes if she was not required to go today. And, that being said, she was exhausted from her traveling. âExactly, Iâll cause too much trouble and get kicked out. Iâm glad you know me so well.â She said, a soft sarcastic twinge in her town, however it was playful as they both knew.
The intense gaze that he settled on her made her eyes drop from his, a blush settling on her cheeks; she could tell by the way they heated up. His next words made a soft sigh leave her lips. Of course they had written it down until their quills ran dry of ink and their owls were tired, but it had been so so long since she heard him say it to her in person. It was like a breath of fresh air right after it snowed outside. It was cold and refreshing and, to her, comforting. âI missed you too Draco. I loved traveling but it would have been so much better if you were with me. I do admit, it was hard to find good friends abroad.â She said, adding a hint of laughter to disguise how deeply she meant her words. She listened devotedly as he talked and ranted about the school year, and by the end of his rant, her hand resided in his left. She gave it a soft squeeze as she remembered what probably resided on that arm. She had rejected hers, which was the reason she was sent away. No one knew that but Draco and her parents.Â
âWell, the first few weeks of the school year seem rather eventful,â She laughed softly, her whole hand tingling from their skin touching. Her thumb grazed along his knuckles lightly. âI missed it here. Abroad was amazing, but my home is here, you know?â She hummed. âYouâre here, my friends are here. Traveling was pretty lonely. Iâm glad that I'm back,â She said, her eyes looking back at him with a smile. She looked around the common room, frowning when she saw first and second years that were still on the couches. â Want to go for a walk?â She asked, just wanting some alone time with Draco and not surrounded by people.Â

Soft waves of nostalgia mixed with the damp, mysterious air of the grounds of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry overtook Jenniferâs senses as her eyes drifted over the familiar landscape she had ever so longed for over the past school year. She had longed for the fresh smell of grass that always soothed her senses when studying under the willow tree, the ripples in the pond created by the residential merpeople and she had even longed for the uneven cobblestone path through the outer ring of the grounds that had caused her many a scraped knee and bruises throughout her stay at the school. It wasnât her choice to leave the beloved, odd school of hers; if it had in fact been her choice, she would have stayed without a doubt in her mind. However, she had no choice and her parents sent her on her way, away from her home and friends. She had traveled to a different school each semester she had been away, that being three. She had attended Ilvermony, Beaubaxtons, and Uagadou each for a semester with only her owl to send messages and her cat to keep her company.
She was lucky for the few friends that she chose to keep in contact for as they kept her sane and and gave her a wonderful sense of consistency that she very well lacked throughout her moving. Draco was one of those friends. He was her best friend and she would say without hesitation that she missed him most of all. The last time she had seen him was when her family had been invited over to the Malfoy manor for the last winter break in order to settle some of their business. She reminiscent on the time she spent with him so fondly that it often overtook her thoughts when she couldnât seem to pay attention in class and when she had free time, she found herself rereading all of the notes he had sent her.
The soft crunch of the unstable stone beneath her feet only continued to soothe her as she sunk back into her nostalgic feelings as she began to approach the large doors of the school. The doors opened for her, her black and green Slytherin robes billowing around her ankles from the gust of wind the doors gave. She was immediately met by Professor Snape, Headmaster Dumbledore, and Mr. Filch. She was searched quickly by Mr. Filch to ensure she had no objects that he could confiscate as the other two men greeted her fondly. She had come back at an odd time, being as Uagadouâs semesters were quite odd. It was now mid first semester of her sixth year so not many people were coming into the school. This being said, she was still welcomed with open arms; quite literally she may add as she received a rare and surprisingly warm hug from Professor Snape.
Mr. Filch took her trunk and left off towards the direction of the Slytherin dorms and Dumbledore bid her adieu, leaving Professor Snape in charge of refreshing her memory with a quick tour. Everyone was in class that the moment except for the 2nd year Gryffindors and Slytherins so the halls were barren, cold, and quiet enough to hear hers and Professor Snapeâs footsteps echo for what she could only imagine was miles down the halls. By the time he had fully refreshed her memory, classes were being released and she was now standing at the entrance of the Slytherin common room: the unsuspecting grey cobblestone wall. She said the password, her lips savoring the familiarity of the silly word as it left her mouth. âHoney cakes.â She spoke, the edges of her lips turning up into a smile as she watched the cobblestone come apart, granting her entrance.
She walked into the common room, her lips now stretching into a grin as she admired the room. It hadnât changed a bit since she left and the familiarity was something her heart longed for so. She looked up at the ceiling as she walked further into the dungeonous room; the glass of the ceilings in the far corner of the room peered into the lake she loved so much, casting a green hue of light over the couches, chairs, and book shelves that sat below it. She was called away from admiring the room by a familiar voice speaking her name, making her heart leap. She turned on the heel of her black mary janes and was greeted by no one else but the same boy who bombarded her every thought; Draco Malfoy.
Jen ran over to him, not caring how stupid the other pretentious Slytherins may have thought her actions were, and she wrapped her arms around him tightly. She pulled away briefly with a soft laugh at his face. He was surprised. Anyone would be; usually, people didnât just come back in the middle of the semester. âSurprise,â She spoke and laughed. âI told you in my last letter I had a present for you,â She reminded playfully and hugged him again tightly before more students her age began to trickle in and recognize her. âDid you miss me?â She asked teasingly, knowing that in their letters he would beg for her to let him sneak out to come to her just for a night but she knew if his parents found out he would be done for and she couldnât stand to be the cause of that.
@exquisite-slytherin
Draco trudged through the halls of Hogwarts, his mood sour as he ignored those who passed him. His day had been by far the worst, and now all he wanted to do was escape to his room. He made his way to the Slytherin dorms, glad that he was not in high demand or of anyoneâs attention. He did not have the energy to muster yet another fake smile or insult towards the golden trio. Finally, he arrived at the entrance. âHoney cakes.â He uttered with a deep and frustrated sigh. He wasnât sure who came up with this password, but it was by far the most ridiculous yet. He stepped into the room, bothered to see it bustling with students. He had intended to spend the night with the least amount of company, but he knew others would talk. Spotting an empty seat by the fireplace, he moved swiftly and sat down with a heavy sigh. Reaching into his cloak, he pulled out a letter. A faint smile gracing his lips as he reached out to trace the writing on the envelope. She had always had an elegant style of handwriting compared to his scribbles.
Not a single day had passed without her in his thoughts. She had been on his mind since the day she had left Hogwarts, and though she had sent him letters, the words only sought to extend his despair. His father had told him that he was foolish and but then his father had never been a man of the heart. He had almost thought of sneaking out to be with her but knew his father would punish him. Jennifer was one of his few friends that he was close to and could trust, but she was more than just a friend, she was his best friend. Gingerly, he removed the letter as he began to reread it. Savouring every word, his lips curled into a soft smile. Only she was capable of breaking through his stony exterior with her playful personality. He had admittedly been curious at her mention of a present. He hoped that she would be his present, but he was sure that wouldnât happen.
Leaving had not been her choice, and despite his desperate attempts to stop her, he had last seen her during her familyâs visit to the manor. It seemed so long since the winter break, and the letters they had exchanged had helped to retain his sanity, despite the feelings of despair. In his letters, he told her of the burden he felt of being a Malfoy, of the expectations he faced as a prefect and a Slytherin. In return, she had told him about her semesters at three different schools. He clutched the letter against his chest, smelling the light scent of the parchment. It was all he had of her and all he would have until they met again. He slipped the letter back into the envelope and the safety of his cloak. Staring into the fire, he could almost sense her presence as if she was near. But quickly, he chastised himself, his head snapping up at the familiar sound of the entrance opening.
His eyes widened as he caught sight of a flash of blonde hair, and he jumped up. Surely, he was dreaming, but before he could blink, he was striding towards her, and her name was tumbling from his lips. Draco steadied himself as she hugged him tightly, returning the hug with equal intensity. He felt her pull back and knew that she could see the surprise on his face. Her laughter sweet music to his ears, hugging her once more, just as tightly as she hugged him, pulling back, he finally regained his composure. âOf course I missed you, Jen.â His tone softening as a soft smile ghosted across his lips. âI thought I wouldnât see you again.â His admission heavy as his eyes searched hers.

Jen closed her eyes as she melted into his arms; she had missed him and his hugs so dearly. So many nights were spent writing long letters, her quill scratching lightly under candlelight at a desk that she would come to be so familiar with, and longing for him to be with her despite the lack of possibility for either of them to do so. During her times at the various schools, although she enjoyed it and made many friends, she constantly pined for the moment she would go back to Hogwarts. She knew most best friends didnât feel the pangs of sadness she felt when she thought of being away from Draco but she didnât dare to express them in fear of ruining what they had.Â
Her hands clutched his robes tightly as she relished in the feeling of his arms around her. She pulled back as he did and she grinned up at him. She had forgotten just how much her stomach flipped every time he smiled. Her hands left his robe and fell to her side with a bright smile. âOh come on, Draco,â She giggled softly. She knew how he felt, she felt the same way. She was sure her mother and father wouldnât let her come back to Hogwarts but here she was. âYou know I was going to come back, you canât get rid of me that easy.â She laughed again.Â
She brought him in for a hug once more before pulling away at the sound of someone else calling her name. More Slytherins began filing in and her other friends from their year, Pansy Parkinson and Blaise Zabini, saw her excitedly. She greeted them with a bright smile and a tight hug. She was glad to see them again, but it was Draco she was most excited to see. She talked with them for a few moments before they left to go to the library and she was left to turn back to Draco. The common room began to clear out as the bell rang again, leaving the couches free so Jen grabbed Dracoâs arm, pulling him over and she sat next to him.Â
âDo you think that you can skip the rest of your lessons today?â She asked with a soft pout. âYou need to catch me up on everything, and I donât start until tomorrow and I donât want to be alone,â She whined playfully and smiled, looking up at him. Her gaze lingered on him briefly, taking in his features all over again. If it hadnât been for the pictures he would send her occasionally, she feared that she would have forgotten what he had looked like altogether. Â
