THERE THEY ARE!!! THAT'S THEM!!! THAT'S MY QUEEN AND HER WIFE!!!
Everybody in the comments of the trailer posts wishing for this season to be when Mat finally gets cool sorry. He’s never cool he just collects accessories as distractions. We’re just dressing up the wet possum underneath
what wot fandom spaces and especially mat enjoyers are like rn
Imagine basketball player Rand al’Thor
…..the greatest player since the legendary Lews Therrin ‘Dragon’ Telamon ….Can Rand live up to his legacy …can the Ta’veren team WIN THE CHAMPIONSHIP
Does this mean Asmodean teaches Rand how to do a sick half-court shot?
Sammael keeps trying to outdunk Rand but can’t because he’s too fucking short and this pisses him off to no end.
Is Lanfear the stuck up cheerleader on the sidelines who wants to date Rand because he’s the best jock?
I kind of want Lanfear to be the enemy point guard who keeps “accidentally” passing the ball to Rand.
Demandred tries to set it up so he’s playing against Rand in the Final Four but ends up in the bracket playing against Mat.
Since the first two seasons of The Wheel of Time made Liandrin a complex and popular character, Dain likeable and Masema hot, I fully expect that Season 3 is going to turn Gawyn and Elaida into fan favourites.
A recent fanart commission!
The three Emond’s Field boys from the Wheel of Time series~~!
Rand - DUTY
Mat - LUCK
Perrin - LOYALTY
FINALLY reached my first Mat PoV chapter, and his thought process is immaculate:
Never change, Mat. Never change <3
For whatever reason, Jordan didn't have the Aiel with polyandrous relationships, a thing I suspect he would have had he been writing 20 (or even 10) years later.
In part because sprawling Aiel polycules would be hilarious, with insane complicated rules that confuse the hell out of the wetlanders. The relationship between Rhuarc and his wives, for all that it baffles Rand, really isn't that complicated. What happens if it crosses clan or society boundaries? What happens if two women who dislike each other find themselves sister-wives because their husbands' wives are married to a common husband? What if one of a pair of first sisters isn't interested in the husband (for aro/ace reasons) but the husband is in her for platonic reasons?
Jordan wouldn't have to hold back, and could have had a ton of fun just making up random rules.
Aviendha would constantly insist this makes total sense, and is superior to whatever polycules the wetlands have.
Somewhere during Knife of Dreams, Aviendha suddenly becomes extremely interested/obsessed in marriage laws and rites in the Age of Legends. Elayne helps her with library access, of course, but starts to get worried when this obsession doesn't abate. When Elayne pushes Aviendha to relax - this doesn't matter because laws are different in Andor - Aviendha says:
"You do not understand. Until we understand this question, we must act as if we are sister-wives to Lanfear."
"what's the plot of wheel of time?"
Man, what ISN'T the plot of wheel of time
Had a dream last night that the wot fandom was doing a group reread led by Robert Jordan himself, who at one point during a wondergirls sequence announced that "I may have gone a little too hard on the yuri here".
This website has altered my brain chemistry in ways heretofore unbeknownst to man.
Y’all ever just- think about Mat Cauthon? Just generally. Cause im just thinking about him. He’s living rent free but im making up for it by thinking of increasingly more tragic/stressful scenarios to put him in. I love putting him in situations. RJ didn’t put him in enough situations me thinks.
it's always wild to me when pro-matlayne arguments are that it would be better than BOTH their canon romances because i'm like. oh you think matlayne would be.........REPLACING randlayne? you think this would be a monogamous relationship? you think rand would just be off doing his own thing rather than being the filling of a tasty matlayne sandwich? if so, you are entirely missing the true appeal of matlayne
I’m response to the tags:
I’d simply argue that you don’t have to choose between Matlayne and MatTuon either, because the funnier and more thematically interesting alternative is Mat and Min spending half the year with the Randland polycule and the other half in Seanchen with Tuon like they’re Persephone bringing back spring
You guys forgot Aviendha. She doesn't understand what's going on, but she doesn't understand Wetlanders anyway, and she enjoys drinking with Mat. He's like a spear-sister, which is weird, but again, Wetlanders, eh?
Time to break out the diagram
So I’ve mentioned in the past my love of Min and I wanted to more properly articulate why I think a lot of the criticisms of her are kinda- bad. So I see the idea that Min is somehow Less of her own character because her primary focus for a lot of the series is in helping Rand, that her relationship with Rand is unhealthy because of her attention towards him. So I wanted to explain why that’s not really a valid argument.
So as far as these characters know, Rand is going to die at tarmengedon. To Min, Rand has two years left to live, she’s in love with him, and currently the most important thing is stopping the end of the world which also happens to coincide with Rand’s mental health.
Let’s put it this way, if a doctor told you that your partner had a terminal illness and had two years to live, would you not drop everything, set aside your personal goals and desires, to focus on loving and caring for your partner for those remaining two years. Cause I would.
Some times, it’s okay to have your romantic relationship be a priority. Sometimes there’ll be times where you have to put aside your personal goals to care for another person. Sometimes what you want in life, isn’t going to be the most important thing to you. And that’s okay. You’re allowed to prioritize others for periods of time. We see that Min’s life doesn’t end once Rand isn’t around, she has a life and goals and desires outside of him. There’s things she wants to pursue, changes to the world she wants to make, but for that period of time, her wants didn’t need to be the number one priority. Rand needed her support, the world needed someone to keep the dragon reborn grounded and human. It’s the same type of theme that all the characters emphasize, the idea that sometimes what you want isn’t as important as the greater needs of the world. After Tarmengedon we see her moving on to her next priority, which is guiding Tuon to be a good ruler. Rand was her priority for a small portion of her life, a blip in time where the needs of the world and her desires aligned. Rand was not her everything, and losing him did not destroy her, Rand was simply someone she loved and she wanted to love him to the fullest while she still had the chance.
Fuck it, WoT College AU majors
Rand: History/English double major. Constantly drowning under the weight of all his assignments. Nose in a book forever. You ask him for his plans after college and he just stares at you.
Mat: CS major. Cause why not. He hates reading, mostly just wants to hang out and chill through college, but still ends up miserable anyway. Also (h/t @highladyluck) it’s where all the ambiguously neurodivergent boys end up anway.
Perrin: He’s in trade school, but his girlfriend convinced him to audit some ecology/animal science courses with her, and he really took to it.
Egwene: This one is tough. I feel like she’s got big, undefined ambitions, so I’ll say Pre-Law, possibly Poli Sci. But also she has about five minors in wildly different departments and no one understands how they fit together.
Nynaeve: Med School. Obviously
Elayne: STEM girlie, 100%. Not biology or chemistry (sorry show only moonshine-making Elayne). Probably Physics or Engineering.
Aviendha: She got recruited on a massive women’s basketball scholarship, and now she’s struggling to find something to do. Currently Undeclared.
Min: Fashion major, History minor (the only time she ever sees her boyfriend is in class).
Faile: Animal Science, cause horse girl. But also she’s ambiguously rich and keeps alluding to the fact that she’s probably not even going to work after college.
Tuon: Business major. Sorry. It’s the only place that satisfies her cutthroat ambitions. But also she takes a few pre-med classes, just for fun.
Moiraine: History professor. Area of focus: inscrutable. Regularly disappears for “conferences”.
Lan: Her long-suffering TA (mostly long-suffering because his gf is in med school and he never gets to see her).
I like it but this is changes-her-major-to-Philosophy-midway-through!Min erasure
Also, I am interrupting Mat’s halfhearted CS major by sending him to military school, which will surely cure his ADHD. If Robert Jordan thought that would work, who am I to gainsay it? He almost entirely hates it, not least because it puts a serious crimp in his ability to get money by selling random shit he collects (antiques, knives, rocks, lizards, etc) on EBay/Facebook Marketplace/flea markets/trade shows.
Ooh, yes!! Changes her major or double major are both good.
I can totally see Mat joining ROTC halfway through sophomore year because he remembers student loans are a thing. He hates the waking up at 5am to go jog, but he loves the strategy courses and the camaraderie, and does shockingly well in ROTC classes.
Galad: rides out 4 years of "undeclared" by ONLY doing ROTC. Decides he's Mat's rival for... obvious reasons.
Gawyn: There on a men's basketball scholarship. Signs up for an electrical engineering major because "he's probably smart enough for it" but only picks whatever classes are taught next to Elayne's. He starts dating Egwene after he accidentally signs up for a pre-law class that's right next to Elayne's first-year engineering ethics; Egwene thinks he's cute and launches an investigative vibe check. She asks him out after watching him pull a triple-double in a basketball scrimmage.
Thom: rhetoric professor. He would be everyone's favorite, except for the fact that he has literally 14 hours of office hours a day and you HAVE to go to them to pass his class, and he'll honk a rubber chicken every time you talk in class if he didn't see you last week.
Bayle: runs the closest bodega. He's lived in this town his whole life and actually, genuinely doesn't know there's a legal drinking age, so he's never carded anyone ever. His shop has a suspiciously rotating hard-goods inventory. It's not technically a pawn shop with a liquor store attached, but...
Loial: post-grad history alum who just kind of never left. He's been couch surfing for five years. The only things he seems to own are a tattered Jansport backpack and an infinite supply of composition notebooks. Absolutely ADORES Rand; once Rand moves off-campus, Loial practically lives with him (doesn't pay rent though; he's unemployed).
This was almost too easy
