thank you to the story that made me come to terms with and eventually love my shapeshifting.
Carl Frederik Sørensen (Danish, 1818–1879), "Danish Ships in Rough Seas" (details), 1877
”potentially mature content” what the hell, sure
i didn't even need the content flag to consider it, i love painting water so much its my favorite thing to paint to such a degree that the only thing i actually paint is the sea and shipwrecks, truly my most narrow opinion but its true. i love the way one paints water, the highlights, the way water shifts color in the light, the way there are rules to how water flows and shifts but theyre so incalculably varied that understanding how to paint fluidly and intuitively is just as crucial as knowing precise forms, UGH i love paintings of water...
I really do think the current rise of global fascism is going to be especially bad for the massive and rapidly growing population of disabled people.
Already-inadequate social safety nets are already being dismantled and I think the cultural environment is going to become more and more brutal to disabled people.
We've seen some of this already obviously. The socially-acceptable, earnest explanations that the r slur is okay now because everyone's saying it, the refusal to do literally anything to protect disabled people from covid, the austerity so many governments are enforcing on the most vulnerable members of their populations.
Politics and culture are in lockstep on the insistence that disabled people are expendable. I think this has already changed the social landscape dramatically and it's only accelerating.
As the number of people too disabled to work surges from the longer-term effects of an unusually disabling virus, as work becomes increasingly brutal and underpaid (your actual income number MAY be the same, but you can't buy as much food or housing with it, and new hires are being paid even less), as social services continue to be gutted, people who care for disabled people are going to increasingly see us as burdens and see our survival as incompatible with their own.
If you aren't yet disabled, PLEASE stand up for us and find ways to organize additional support instead of just dumping your disabled loved ones on the street to die.
"I'd never do that!" Good!! Hold on to that!! Bc the Overton window will shift your opinions and politics if you let it.
So many people who were righteously angry five years ago about governments suggesting killing disabled people was an acceptable price to keep the economy running, are now repeating those same conservative party lines almost word for word and thinking it's different because they're used to it now.
It's going to become increasingly common to abandon disabled people. It's going to be described as setting boundaries and protecting your peace and prioritizing reciprocity.
But if those are your real priorities, organizing additional support is a dramatically better option than removing every source of support a disabled person has all at once and comforting yourself with the thought that finding new help all at once is the responsibility of the newly homeless person who is seriously disabled.
The beginning of the end for every digital artist
see the trick is get super into sorting things and then just go back and sort it later. "but when do i actually sort it—" later dawg i already told you
i love them help me
ITS OUT!!!!
after moths of work, the first pages of Mr. and Mrs. Buccaneer are live on AO3 and facampbell.com!
@baggebythesea and I have been working crazy hard to make this webcomic for the @spopbigbang, and while i'm a touch late i think i can be forgiven
In order to undercover a secret pirate plot, Bow and Adora go undercover in Seaworthy as a married couple. There will be danger. There will be intrigue. There will absolutely be shenanigans. But anything is possible with the power of friendship.
It's got an exploration of platonic bonds, lots of pirates, and an excuse for me to draw beefy dudes getting their asses kicked by swashbuckling lesbians and bisexual archers. *ahem* uh the comic is updating monthly, so keep an eye out in early june for the next chunk of pages!
I can't even begin to say how amazing this is! @f-a-campbell took my silly little pirate buddy comedy about Bow and Adora venturing forth without a single braincell shared between them, and made it a FULLY FLEDGED COMIC! Just you wait - there are so many awesome pages in the pipeline. Bow is 100% right - piracy is about style.

You’ll Know
considering tweaking this one tbh, there’s a couple things about it that just don’t land for me…
guys i have an idea for a movie it's about a musician ☺️ and it's a biopic 🤩 and it tells their story 🧐 because even though they were famous 🥳 they also had some struggles 😔 but also some good moments too 😊 don't you want to come relive their wikipedia page 🤗
the exception, as always, is Weird Al Yankovich
Do you listen to any "obscure" artists?
Yes (comment or leave in the tags?)
No
Dame, Terror Pigeon, Halina Heron, The Eye See You’s, and Insomnia Beach Club are some personal faves! and you know what? i’m gonna talk. about ‘em because i love these bands and songs and i want you to maybe check em out.
(fave track: Don’t Wreck Your Head)
i found Dame not too long ago and i’m not actually sure how. i remember hearing Brilliant first, and i really loved the desperate and heartless lustful vibe of it before discovering the rest of the album was actually deeply emotionally resonant, lots of songs about familial love and complication. they released one album in 2004 and then vanished entirely. i’m itching to burn a cd of them, just in case. also, i would later find out ND Stevenson of Nimona, She-ra, and Scarlet Morning fame has Don’t Wreck Your Head on his Adora playlist, and Brilliant on his Scarlet Morning playlist. i wonder how he found the band…
(fave track: Girl!)
Terror pigeon i discovered through someone else’s playlist, and Girl! hit me like a freight train when i first heard it. the very long constant building excitement and sincerity and love throughout the song, and the mantra repeated of “there’s nothing about you i won’t love” over a cacophony of sound makes the whole thing feel explosive in it’s love. every time i listen to it i can feel the almost cosmic truths bursting from this song. i can see a montage of a decade of love playing over everything in this song. one day, i’ll make a love letter to fandom in the form of an AMV.
(fave track: (Oceans))
the Yawhg introduced me to so much of the art i love the most, and Halina Heron’s music is some of the first guitar i’ve ever learned. (Oceans) simple guitar-piano-vocal combo sold me on the feeling of the song so immediately, and so viscerally, the lingering feeling of a nightmare about a close relation tinting how you feel about that person, even though you’re conscious and awake. the game is also a delight, it’s 10 dollars on steam, please go play it if you have the chance, the gameplay is incredible and the art (by E.M. Carroll) really lends such a unique and specific tone that i’ve never quite found anywhere else.
(fave track: Minus One)
while on a bad date after being too late to go to an x-files themed drag show, i was drinking at a tavern near me. some other bands played, and they were pretty damn good, but when The Eye See You’s took the stage i was in total awe at how good the music was, everything felt so right and i forgot about all the dumb shit that led me there. when i woke up the next day covered in bruises feeling like i died, later learning i stumbled home with the assistance of my BFF, i hungered desperately to find the band but i couldn’t remember the name. i rewatched the shaky videos on my phone trying to find anything that might help. eventually, i found them and threw money at them instantly. a banger mix of psychedelia, rock, and power pop.
(fave song: 58 & rainy)
so, this band eluded me for a very long time. i had listened to 58 & Rainy back in high school, i think after stumbling onto one of their vlogs? i didn’t watch vlogs so i still don’t know how i found it. anyways, this song scored some of my most gender envious days, and im not sure still what about it specifically did so. anyways, i actoually couldn’t find this song again after they removed it from apple music (i was in high school, sue me) and i found their song Staring At The Sun shortly after, and was resigned to never hearing this song again, but then just now while looking for their music, i found it again! so now here it is for everyone to enjoy. i haven’t heard this song in seven years and im instantly transported back to 2019, schools almost out for the summer and im skateboarding around not sure about my body. cool to find it again after so long, so thanks random poll!

u are real as hell for this
have you guys heard about the greenland shark. some crazy shit happening there.
they are sexually mature at ONE HUNDRED AND FIFTY YEARS OLD.
their (live!) young gestate for. wait for it. eight to eighteen (??) YEARS. can have up to 10 at a time. good grief.
longest lifespan of any vertebrate, up to five hundred years
toxic flesh
has giant eyes but is usually blind because of a weird little crustacean that's evolved to live on and eat their eyes. this doesn't seem to bother them much.
lives in deep cold water and has the lowest swim speed and tail-beat frequency for its size across all fish species. just generally lives life in extreme slow motion
largest genome of any shark
eats everything including moose and polar bears
ma'am you are delightfully strange and I'm privileged to share a planet with you
this post prompted me to refresh my memory on Greenland Shark Facts and this detail about how they feed goes so hard
just vacuuming up their unsuspecting prey. whole !
Good news good news good news! Recent research suggests the eye parasites do NOT blind them!

i do unironically think the best artists of our generation are posting to get 20 notes and 3 reblogs btw. that fanfic with like 45 kudos is some of the best stuff ever written. those OCs you carry around have some of the richest backstories and worldbuilding someone has ever seen. please do not think that reaching only a few people when you post means your art isn't worth celebrating.
8 hours of decent sleep will have you thinking things like 'i am a beautiful horse and i will never die'
2 hours of bad sleep will have you thinking things like 'i am a stranded whale and i need to be covered in dynamite in an ill-advised attempt to clear the beach'
