I'm curious.
After seeing the y/n slander train, one point made stuck out to me: y/n slander is misogynistic because we are making fun of the y/n instead of the crazy possessive CEO/mafia boss whoever.
To me, is it really misogynistic? The y/n I keep seeing is an adult woman and I get it; some people are not able to advocate for themselves but in some fanfic, they do. There is also nothing wrong with being desired and taken care of either.
So... Is it really misogynistic to mock or criticize a y/n character when she is clearly capable of reining in her crazy "boyfriend"? Granted I am grown with a developed frontal lobe, so I would never in a million years allow a man to do half the shit I read/hear about for me.
But the trend is actually showing the perspective of side characters (AFAIK), as absurd as the scenarios are. So who are we mocking and criticizing? Are we even doing that or are we just showing a side of fanfic that gets lost in the void of fantasy? Cause yes, I would be a little peeved if my boss was committing HR violations with an employee. It's unethical for everyone involved and as bystanders.
I also want to point out that I am noticing a blur between reality and fiction. How long until someone does this stuff? So is the mockery justified to rein in people who would do the stuff "CEO-kun" is doing?
But in the end, the y/n slander is funny.
Now back to the psych ward for me.
