HEY! Welcome to the Formula 1 Driver & Race Engineer Fest! (Yes this is an incredibly creative and not at all unwieldy name, thank you and you're welcome.)

This is a fanworks fest to celebrate the relationships between drivers and their race engineers in the ~pinnacle of motorsport~, welcoming all types of creative work and any kind of relationship.

Seb & Rocky tribute fanart for the F1 Driver & Race Engineer Fest (@f1raceengineerfest)!!!

I just had to draw my favourite driver and engineer pairing. I love these two SO MUCH with all my heart! 🥹😍🥰

What they had together at Red Bull was simply magical. I still miss hearing them on the radio and seeing these two together on track and around the paddock. So I've combined my favourite moments into one art piece in the form of items and quotes that are best associated with the duo.

Pictured from left to right:

- Rocky being lifted up in the air by Sebastian (complete with a little heel pop) upon winning the Japanese GP in 2009.

- The Infiniti logo: This was one of Red Bull's main sponsorships and can be seen on most of the cars during Sebastian's championship run.

- The Monza balaclava: In preparation for the 2010 Abu Dhabi GP, which was the final round of the season, Rocky asked Sebastian one day “What word describes something that makes you happy and makes you feel good?” And the German’s response was “Monza.” When Rocky asked why, he simply explained “It’s where I won my first Grand Prix.” And so, two days later, Rocky gave Seb a balaclava that had the word ‘Monza’ written on it as a lucky charm. And as we all know, that little lucky charm worked beautifully.

- "Thank you, I love you. I need a moment.": One of many quotes said by Sebastian on the radio when he crossed the finish line to take the win and his 1st World Championship title for Red Bull at Abu Dhabi in 2010.

- Red Bull headset (side-on): Commonly worn by Rocky when giving out team orders.

- "RRRRRING DING- A- DING DING DING DING!!! I love you!!!": Another quote said by Sebastian on the radio when he found out he’d won his 1st World Championship title at Abu Dhabi in 2010.

- "Nice shorts, Rocky!": A cheeky Sebastian said this when Rocky goes into the simulator for a test drive. A video of that moment can be viewed here!

- 1:39.6: This was the time set by Rocky in the same video linked above. ⬆️

- 4x Champ trophy: I mean, does this even need an explanation?

- S. Vettel notebook: An A3 sized notebook. Rocky is usually seen carrying it around under his arm when conversing with Seb.

- "Mate, nobody has ever done what you've just done... in the history of the sport. Man, I'm proud!": This was Rocky's radio message to Sebastian after he won the Brazilian GP in 2013 and with it the WDC record for winning a race 9 consecutive times out of 13 he’d won that season. 🥹🥰

is there a minimum word count or suggested word count a work should meet for the fest?

Nope, no minimum! It's not an exchange/gift fest, so you shouldn't feel like you need to match anyone else's level of effort. As a very very loose suggestion, about 1,000 words is what I would say is a proper ~fic~ as opposed to a drabble (~100 words) or a vignette (a single scene), but all that really matters is that you have fun creating it. If it's less than that, that is totally OK.

If you are still undecided about anything the form asks, that's OK! Just know we are getting down to the last few weeks. Feel free to reach out in the Discord server or to mod @apeacebone if you'd like help brainstorming, or check the prompts in the AO3 collection for inspiration.

Remember that there is no cut-off for signing up for the fest--if you are interested, but you didn't fill out the initial sign-up form, or if you have been hesitating but all of a sudden you have a flash of inspiration, you can just fill out Check-In #2, no need to find the previous version.
