first, rhea's blessed with a rare stroke of luck to be one of the few fortunate fans ( or “ fangs, ” to get technical ) to have scored a ticket to the vampire lestat's first ever show tomorrow night – her head had spun so hard, the dizziness has yet to recede – then, she bumps into the frontman, himself on the eve of said debut. not literally, thank fuck for that.

she'd ventured to find a park bench, guitar in tow, simply to play. the air is fresh, albeit chilly, but giddy energy had forced them from the cramped space they call home. it's a lot of mindless strumming at first, to find a chord, the proper tuning . . . laughs through her nose as the song that's become a deeply embedded earworm over the past five days takes over her hands, now ; back to the tuning pegs, then to settle upon the instrument's neck. a deep breath.

a. c sharp minor. f sharp minor. d. repeat.

the opening is simple, no fumbles thus far, nodding along in time. it's difficult not to sing, & so they do – low, quiet, warm, like the occasional summer breeze through the trees – barely above the music.     ❝    you really caught my eye. i think you're somethin' special, babe. i wanna take you out tonight, i think we got --       ❞    

all at once, everything stops. their voice. their hands, resting over guitar strings. their breath. her heart, for a moment or two. & for a stretch longer, time. she is stone cold sober, & unless rhea has really, truly, completely lost herself to her delusions, that's lestat, himself in the dim evening light standing right in front of her fucking face. nope. he's still there when she blinks. in fact it's only when he speaks that she'd rather dumbly frozen in disbelief, grin & all.

ㅤㅤFrom distant days of stepping towards footlights before a braying audience that needed to be rapidly won over, the frontman no longer succumbs to nerves, but there are sparking tendrils of energy that weave through the very air to bolster a sense of anticipation, the venue akin to the base of a tree while coaxing branches and grasping roots sprawl outwards across the cityscape. Unsuspecting bystanders with no intention of attending nor falling for the gimmick of fictitious vampires aren’t sufficiently capable of avoiding the all-encompassing pull of the event, victims of an oversaturation of promotional material around the clock, a few of the tunes teetering on their respective tongues or playing on their minds. The latter is a thrumming chorus that preternatural senses attune to, Lestat discreetly walking in the shadows following a cursory glance afforded from the tinted window of a car, amused by the supposed indifference that still occupies a part of their thoughts  (  selon lui, toute attention est bonne à prendre  ).

ㅤㅤㅤㅤThe young mortal is yet another in a sea of rumination, although it comes with an ardent fervency that is characteristic of unique dedication, the blond approaching as the opening chords commence, silent observation segueing into the raised question with the undulation of their singing  (  ce n’est pas mal  ).  Lips part to address the babbling, but the interruption of a series of notifications from a phone gives Lestat pause, an index finger briefly flicking aside as a poised indicator for the young one to have a modicum of patience, fair brow knit while simply burying the device deeper into the inner pocket of a leather jacket - they’ll learn how to alter the volume or merely switch them off altogether someday, but for now the immortal has grown adept in ignoring the incessant pings vying for the attention of one who should be present for a mic check, only harking the allure of customised chimes assigned for certain individuals. He glances back to the other with a contemplative purse of the lips.

ㅤㅤA glottal hum remains mangled at the back of the throat in vague bemusement, this particular song having proven to be popular in its simplicity regardless of a distinct lack of understanding of the arduous upheaval it represents, the glimpse of a notion highlighting one of the many fractured elements about the current modern age. The vampire sidesteps an ever-present inner voice that needs to overly address it, complicit in ongoing ignorance as shoulders square with an exuded flow of nonchalance.  “ I suggest the richer sound of vinyl when it is available. Streaming, it butchers the complexity of the arpeggio. Lossless, mm, better, but not as widely accessible. ”  Morbid curiosity taking hold, they think better than to seat himself, eyeing the wooden grain worn down from years of weather and use, iridescent line of vision instead drifting upwards - the delicate fluttering of winged moths find a means of fascination in a lamp while it gently flickers, scant concentration applied to diminish the repetitively erratic pulsing.  “ And which part do you favour most? ”

it's difficult not to gawk at the shimmering entity of a man who's chosen rhea of all people to be worthy of his presence, his conversation – & this close to showtime, no less. blue eyes blink up at lestat in pure wonderment, not a vision of what so many had deemed adolescent delusions she's yet to grow out of, but genuinely & truly real & more ethereal than posters & images spread around social media could ever even hope to capture. she does remember to keep her mouth shut, though. one, because it's rude to gawp in the face of your idol, two, her heart's acrobatics are getting dangerously close to spilling out from her lips ( at least it would make a good offering ), & three, well, he'd asked as much of them with just a wave of a finger.

so rhea sits, arms resting within the groove of her guitar, both knees bouncing restlessly, twists silver rings around her fingers while they wait for the singer to respond to a text or take a call or answer to some person with miles more importance than them – stunned to watch him slip the device into his jacket pocket, instead. they feel the need to peek behind their shoulders for hidden cameras. are they being fucking punk'd ? ? oh shit, he's talking to her again --

     ❝        for real ? aw yes, i was hopin' you'd get vinyls made ! lotta' times the audio gets all – weirdly compressed when it's played through th' phone, sounds kinda' tingy, almost wrecks th' whole listenin' experience --      ❞    nails painted a sleek black bite into the meat of rhea's palms. it's time to shut up again. oh, but he's asked about the song, & that spreads a wide grin across black cherry lips,

[ REUNITE ] - having been apart for some time, sender, upon seeing receiver for the first time, sprints to give them a hug. (be emo w this okay PLS--)

[ BATTLE ] - unsure about their survival, sender and receiver see each other across the battle field, and race into a tight, giddy embrace with each other.

[ SHIELD ] - sender pulls receiver into a hug to prevent them from seeing something horrific.

would anyone perhaps lile to plot dynamics with rhea ?? i know i have yet to post a true backstory / character sheet on her, but i'm absolutely willing to answer any questions about her !!

rhea, in their heart of hearts, just wants to be loved. chosen. put first. and understood. she’s desperate for it, and because of that, she’s met and been taken advantage of by some awful people, a handful of which are exes, her first of which was 21 when she was 16 and at her most vulnerable. but she’d freed herself from her abusive household, and her parents no longer had a bruising grip around her to keep her in line.

this man, isaiah, got rhea hooked on a number of drugs in addition to her weed habit, and was not above forcing them on her when she was unable to protest. often times, it felt too good to say no to him, the things he was able to make them feel. there was a time, however, when rhea was able to bring themselves to say no to isaiah, in the back of his car when fooling around wasn’t so fun anymore. of course, he’d refused to listen, and if it hadn’t been for the small bottle of drugstore perfume in rhea’s pocket sprayed into his eyes, the fucker might have choked her out. she's taken to calling it her secret weapon.

rhea is a fighter, always has been. she refuses to accept a life she does not deserve.
