I am sad to announce that Pika and Pippy have been rehomed. They were living with Zazu and Artie (who also have a new home) with my girlfriend but she unexpectedly felt well enough to start university and simply didnt have the energy nor time to give them the attention they deserved. They weren't unhappy, but we could tell they weren't happy either. Pippy and Pika are now living with a lovely, kind lady, who has experience with cockatiels and plenty of time. They also have a lovely view of the garden and started singing the instant they noticed. We're allowed to visit whenever we want. Zazu and Artie have gone to a man who has a room dedicated to birds, where they have plenty room to fly around supervised, and more buddies.
It's sad news but I'm really happy for them, they haven't been themselves lately and I know they'll be much happier now.
I was very nervous about the reactions of family members, which makes me realise something. People really look down on the idea of rehoming your babies, and that's no good. If you feel like your babies would be happier in someone elses hands, and you know you found them a great home, there's nothing to be ashamed of. It's way worse to keep your babies when you know you're not giving them the care they deserve. Even if you know that's gonna change in a few years, thats still years of unhappiness for them. Please do not give your birds (back) to petstores, they most likely get put down or go to a home where they're even more unhappy.
I'm happy with the decision we made. We'll miss them super much but they're in better hands now :)
