PRINCESS KNIGHT DEV LOG - 14 / 07 / 2020
Demo Script: 90% Completed
- The Prologue has been finished in the game scrip file.
- Alpha DEMO v1.0.0 is fully working without the addition of the game assets.
- Script doesn’t include any choice menus yet.
I’ve been working non-stop with my partner, Asa’KoKo. to put the prologue script together. she has been doing proofreading, highlighting any grammar errors I might have committed and added a few recommendations for the composition.
She has also given me some insight on the plot and we’ve been discussing where to take the project. I had nearly 0 ideas for the project up until that point, and while we were working on it, some things were decided. Specially concerning the Canon Route and the the Canon Ending, which will be a surprise for when the game is fully released.
We haven’t scripted any choices in the prologue yet, the first DEMO will not include this, as we want to have feedback from people trying out the demo before including any choices or changing any parts of the prologue depending on what we gather from comments and the official DEMO Poll.
Character Concept Art: 15% Completed
- Concepts for Victoria (the heroine), Luka and Cedrik (two of the love interests) have been updated.
- Moodboards for Victoria, Alden, Luka and Cedrik have been updated.
This is a part of the project that is kind of on stand by for now. Asa’KoKo and I took a moment from it to talk about the “art style” we’ll be using for the Character Sprites and their Character Concepts, so we are now taking a break from Project Knight in order to make some test sprites with a few different styles in order to compose one that we like.
We’ve discussed some more ideas regarding the rest of the characters, but nothing is set in stone yet. I am also kinda working on a side project, so not much will be updated on this at least until we pick our art style for the project.
Backgrounds: 2% Completed
- Photomanipulation for the Drakar Castle Entrance BG has been completed with all it’s variants.
- Photomanipulation for the Bathroom BG in Drakar Castle has been completed with all it’s variants.
- Photomanipulation for the Drakarian Library BG is in edition process for the daytime filters (Noon and Night versions).
To be brutally honest... I suck at drawing backgrounds. So I’ve choosen to do photomanipulation with free assets from Unsplash and some other Pre-Made BGs that are free to use for both personal and some for commercial use. The project will be free, but we will still use itch.io’s “name your own price” feature for those who would like to donate to the cause.
Anyways, back on the topic, I’ve been trying to filter the photos so they look a bit more “anime-eske” and not too “realistic”. The goal is for them to look artificial. You can check the effect on our itch.io page, we already have 2 free BG assets uploaded!.
- The team’s Trello Board and GitHub Repository are live (For OtomeFlag Devs only).
- Two BGM tracks are being discussed as possible assets for the Main Menu track and the Trailer/Game Teaser track.
The team currently counts with 4 members. 2 Coders, 2 CG/Character artists. Plus Asa’KoKo and I kinda work as the Jack of All-Trades in the team.
We are also making progress by having a share system in GitHub for the team members in order to make full use of our skills.
Our team as a whole is pretty laid back as of right now and possibly until hell freezes over. There is no need to rush things, just working on it as the creativity strikes and making use of our free time.
Some other things that have been advanced are textbox tests for a few of the project, though all of them are just very basic mock-ups made in photoshop with free assets and cliparts. Future GUI design will be done from scratch in Illustrator and Clip Studio Paint.
